According to the report, when Lee Jae-myung was about to leave in the car after answering reporters' questions, a man in his fifties and sixties, wearing a paper crown with the words related to Lee Jae-myung's supporter group, suddenly took out a knife and stabbed Lee Jae-myung in the neck when he approached Lee Jae-myung's 'asking for an autograph', and the people around him screamed in shock. It is understood that the man's tool for committing the crime was a 30-centimeter long knife.

Lee Jae-myung began a hunger strike on August 31, 2023, and was suspended from performing his duties on September 18, 2023, when he was hospitalized for treatment due to his deteriorating health. After being discharged from the hospital on October 9, 2023, he has been recuperating at home. Lee Jae-myung is now under investigation on suspicion of violating the election law and corruption.
