On September 27, 1955, in Huairen Hall, Zhongnanhai, Beijing, with Chairman Mao's order, the first award ceremony of New China was also officially begun, in this grand event, a total of 1,048 generals obtained the rank of major general or above, including ten marshals, ten generals, fifty-five generals, one hundred and seventy-five lieutenant generals, and seven hundred and ninety-eight major generals.
Most of them believe that the Chinese people are familiar with it, and the stories that happened during the period are also talked about, such as General Chen Qihan's "Mao Sui self-recommendation", in the eyes of many people at that time, his merits and achievements were enough to award the rank of general, and even to get the rank of general, but what is surprising is that when he filled out the report form, he modestly filled in the rank he hoped to obtain as a lieutenant general!
So what is going on? As for whether his request was accepted organizationally, and what contributions did Chen Qihan make to the country and the people in his life?
Abandon the pen and join the revolution
Let's talk about the answer first, for General Chen Qihan's humble behavior, although the Party Central Committee and Chairman Mao were very moved, but considering his outstanding achievements and good character, they finally rejected his application and awarded him the rank of general at the award ceremony.
In 1897, Chen Qihan was born in a rural family in Xingguo County, Jiangxi Province, most of the peasants in that era were poor, struggling to survive under the pressure of the landlord's old wealth and the feudal dynasty, and the Chen family was no exception.
Born in such a family, Chen Qihan's future can be called bleak, according to common sense, his fate is likely to be the same as his father's, relying on the sky to eat, working in the field, and his life can only be with everyone, but fortunately, Chen's father did not allow such a tragedy to happen, in order to change the fate of the family, even if he couldn't eat, he still sent his son to study, as the so-called knowledge changes fate, Chen Qihan's life has undergone earth-shaking changes.
Relying on his father's insistence, Chen Qihan became a rare local cultural person from a very young age, not only that, but his vision is also broad, when he heard that the Qing court collapsed and the feudal dynasty disappeared, he did not hesitate, he immediately abandoned the traditional Four Books and Five Classics, and instead chose to abandon the pen from Rong, and was admitted to the Shaoguan Dian Army's Jiangwutang branch.
Here, Chen Qihan completed the enlightenment of revolutionary thought, and at the same time had a general understanding of the domestic situation, but found that the internal chaos of the Yunnan army was in chaos, and it was difficult to achieve great success in the future.
Relying on his military exploits, Chen Qihan was repeatedly promoted, and soon became a battalion commander, but his ambition was far more than that, no, after hearing about Mr. Sun Yat-sen's great ambition, he immediately broke away from the Jiangxi army, joined the command of the Guangdong army, and followed Mr. Zhongshan to participate in the first Northern Expedition and pacify the Guangzhou merchant rebellion and other battles.
During this period, Chen Qihan was valued by Mr. Sun Yat-sen, and got the qualification to go to the Whampoa Military Academy to study Xi, is gold can shine anywhere, not long after, Chen Qihan in the elite of the Huangpu to show his head, successively served as the captain of the student team, the company commander, the political captain, not to mention the middle-level cadres, but also by Premier Zhou and other people of our party unanimously appreciated.
Chen Qihan also agreed with Marxism-Leninism and communist ideology, so he chose to join and became an honorable Communist Party member in that year.
At that time, the situation was well known to all, and the Kuomintang and the Communist Party were still in the honeymoon period, so although the Kuomintang was dissatisfied with Chen Qihan's "joining the Communist Party," it was not easy for them to directly intervene; of course, he also took advantage of this gap to leave Guangzhou and returned to his hometown Jiangxi to carry out mass work under organizational assignment.
It has to be said that Chen Qihan is not only good at fighting, but also a good hand in propaganda, no, just after arriving in Jiangxi, he has no teacher, he has learned to use the media to expand the influence of public opinion, and with his efforts, "Republic of China Daily", "Implementation Daily" and other newspapers and periodicals of our party have been established, and soon let the local people know and understand the ideas and ideas of the Communist Party.
Therefore, in just a few months, the number of people who joined the party and the army was innumerable, and Chen Qihan finally had the opportunity to lead the troops, and he served as the chief of staff of the Nanchang Officer Education Corps under the arrangement of Mr. Zhu to start the training, but it is regrettable that before the troops could first take shape, in April 1927, the Kuomintang reactionaries headed by Chiang Kai-shek launched an encirclement and suppression of our party.
For a time, a large number of party members and cadres either sacrificed or fell into the hands of the enemy, seeing that the situation was not optimistic, in desperation, after the defeat of the Great Revolution, Chen Qihan could only sneak into Linchuan, Xingguo and other places one after another, and continue to engage in revolutionary struggle in the shadows.
Governance of Xingguo County
During the first period of cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, Chen Qihan, who was in the Whampoa Military Academy, resolutely joined the Communist Party of China, and after that, he also relied on his own wisdom to help our party expand its influence and absorb countless talents, but unfortunately, this move was also feared by the Kuomintang reactionaries.
Continuing from the above, Chen Qihan, who returned to his hometown in Xingguo County, said that it was not uncomfortable, and that the good situation was ruined, which naturally hit him hard, but even so, he did not give up, but quickly cheered up and continued the revolutionary struggle.
Therefore, after that, the organization also attached more and more importance to Chen Qihan, first appointing him head of the Military Department of the CPC Special Committee in southern Jiangxi and a part-time member of the Standing Committee of the Xingguo County Party Committee, and then handing over to him the heavy burden of building a revolutionary base area in southwestern Jiangxi.
In the following time, he not only successfully completed the task, but also played a key role in welcoming the transfer of the Red Fourth Army from the Jinggangshan revolutionary base to southern Jiangxi and western Fujian.
At that time, in June 1928, after learning that the main force of the Red Army had joined Jinggangshan, Chen Qihan was greatly surprised, and immediately sent his subordinates to look for it, and soon got in touch with Chairman Mao, not to mention, but also brought back many important instructions from Chairman Mao.
In this regard, Chen Qihan was like a treasure, and he also acted in strict accordance with the instructions, and launched the Xingguo County Riot in the winter of that year alone, killing the local Kuomintang reactionary officials, distributing the grain in the "official warehouse" to the poor people, and even seizing a large amount of assets, guns and ammunition.
This money is of great significance to the Red Army, relying on this money, Chen Qihan not only provided tens of thousands of catties of grain and thousands of cotton clothes for the Central Red Army, but also collected the military expenses of the year in one fell swoop and solved the urgent needs of the Party Central Committee.
Such a feat can be called a great achievement, therefore, when the Red Fourth Army came to southern Jiangnan, Chairman Mao also personally went to thank and visit Chen Qihan, and learned of Chairman Mao's arrival, Chen Qihan was also quite moved, as a native of the local, he directly adopted the most solemn ceremony in Xingguo County to express his welcome, and made five meat dishes at his own expense to entertain Chairman Mao.
A banquet was full of guests, but what everyone present did not expect was that just after putting down the chopsticks, Chairman Mao's "criticism" came one after another, and the content could not be simpler, that is, Chen Qihan's mistake as a leader in the riots in Xingguo County!
According to Chairman Mao, in this uprising, Chen Qihan made two major mistakes: first, in the first riot, due to negligence, he was taken advantage of by the younger generation to seize power, and second, in the second riot, he burned down the houses of the county government and capitalists, and did not establish political power in the first place, which led to instability among the people and slowed down the process of establishing the revolutionary base area.
Hearing this, Chen Qihan was stunned at first, and then lowered his head in shame, of course, Chairman Mao did not continue to study deeply, but praised his contributions, and gave his own suggestions, that is, to establish a stable people's power as soon as possible, distribute land as soon as possible, so that the common people can realize that the cultivators have their own land, and keep the fruits of the victory of the revolution!
In this regard, Chen Qihan was deeply concerned, and he immediately came forward to formulate the political program of the people's power, and quickly established the Xingguo County Revolutionary Committee.
For seven days, Chen Qihan and others benefited a lot, but what is surprising is that a decision had been made in advance and decided to allocate land as soon as possible, but until March 1930, when Chairman Mao came to Xingguo County again, the Xingguo County Party Committee was still talking on paper and there was no progress, so what is going on?
It turned out that it was not Chen Qihan who was procrastinating, but that the situation in Xingguo County was too complicated, and that the troops of the Kuomintang reactionaries were ready to move and often sneak attacked, and then there were local people with different opinions and contradictions, so it was delayed for a long time.
As soon as he heard this, forced by the tense situation of the revolution at that time, Chairman Mao naturally took it as an excuse, so before Chen Qihan explained, he retorted with a little anger, the general meaning is very simple, that is, when he was in Jinggangshan, he had just thrown off the enemy fifty meters, and the big guy could sit down and discuss the matter of dividing the field, why did it take so long to arrive in Xingguo County?
Chairman Mao's meaning is obvious, that is, to blame Chen Qihan for procrastinating, I thought he would be angry or continue to explain, but in fact, he didn't say a word and turned around and started to improve, and quickly completed the field division movement.
Chairman Mao was really impressed by this matter, such a cadre who listens to persuasion and knows that mistakes can be corrected is really hard to find, of course, this is the reason why Chen Qihan was reused in the organization after that, and he was constantly promoted along the way.
He is not arrogant and humble
After the breakdown of the first KMT-CCP cooperation, Chen Qihan came to Xingguo County to engage in agrarian revolution work, during this period, he made meritorious contributions and made mistakes, but his indomitable and corrective character convinced many leaders of the Party Central Committee, therefore, after that, Chen Qihan was also reused.
In March 1932, when the Central Military Commission planned to rebuild the Red First Army, Chen Qihan's name appeared on the discussion list of the Party Central Committee.
Such a leapfrog promotion is really rare, but it is clear that this is just the beginning, in view of Chen Qihan did not live up to the trust of the organization, during the Long March made great contributions, when the Red Army arrived in northern Shaanxi, he also successively served as the director of the Education Bureau of the Military Commission, the commander of the Suide County Garrison, the chief of staff of the Military Commission, the commander of the Yan'an garrison and so on.
During this period, Chen Qihan also made no small contribution, not only ensuring the safety of many leading cadres of the Party Central Committee militarily, but also cultivating a large number of talents in education and organization.
Of course, because of this, Chairman Mao is also more and more optimistic about this Confucian general, and there is a deep friendship between the two, and at the same time, Chen Qihan also expressed his ambition to the chairman, that is, to fight on the battlefield and the horse leather shroud!
Obviously, Chen Qihan didn't want to stay in the rear because of his high level of knowledge and culture, and applied to the organization to go to the front line many times. After careful consideration, at the beginning of the Liberation War, Chairman Mao also sent him to the battlefield with tears, first went to the Jichareliao Military Region for training, and then served as the deputy commander of the East Manchurian Military Region.
In March 1949, in the preparatory stage of the battle of crossing the Yangtze River, Chen Qihan took the initiative to ask Ying to follow the troops south, and in the subsequent Jiangxi bandit suppression operation, he commanded the troops as the commander of the military region, and successively annihilated more than 40,000 bandits and spies, and returned the people of Jiangxi to a prosperous future.
It can be said that since the founding of the Communist Party of China to the founding of New China, the Northern Expedition, the Great Revolution, the Agrarian Revolution, the Anti-Encirclement and Suppression War, the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and the War of Liberation, except for the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Chen Qihan did not participate in it because of his heavy responsibility, he has experienced almost every war, and has made outstanding military exploits in it.
Therefore, just before the award ceremony, the organization specially sent someone to send Chen Qihan a "registration form", hoping that he could choose the military rank he wanted.
As for this result, the party Central Committee and Chairman Mao originally thought that Chen Qihan would try it upwards, and this is very normal; people go to high places and water flows to low places, so who doesn't want to win higher honors? But what is surprising is that instead of filling in the general, he only filled in a lieutenant general for himself!
At the same time, Chen Qihan's actions also became a "positive teaching material" at that time, you know, he is not the only one who is required to fill in the military rank by the organization, but others do not have such a high character, and there are many people who reach out to Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou, which is undoubtedly in stark contrast to Chen Qihan.
Of course, it is precisely because of this that in order to combat this improper trend in the organization, and his merits are indeed very high, his proposal was finally rejected and he was directly designated as the rank of general, not to mention that he was subsequently appointed as the vice president of the Supreme People's Court of New China!
