Fourth, the sunken corpse of the well
Ye Gaoyu, 30 years old, a native of Nanning, was born in a landlord family, graduated from junior high school and was admitted to a normal school, and became a primary school teacher after graduation. At that time, the school did not pay much attention to the academic qualifications of teachers, but focused on practical teaching ability. Ye Gaoyu's academic qualifications are not good, but his teaching ability is not low, so he was later promoted to principal. When the Japanese invaded Nanning for the second time, the elementary school was closed. Although the primary school is government-run, and Ye Gaoyu also occupies a place on the teacher roster of the Education Bureau, the Japanese puppet authorities do not care at all, and if it is closed, he will lose his job. Ye Gaoyu had to find another job, which was the rice bowl he was still holding when he was arrested - Mr. Bookkeeper of the Tea Shop.
Ye Gaoyu is single and lives in a tea shop. When the investigators went to arrest him, they didn't encounter any trouble, and first asked the police station to find the married daughter of the tea shop owner who lived nearby, and asked her to knock on the door, pretending that he had an urgent matter to see his parents. Originally, if he took it, he should have taken it to the city bureau like Tao Xiaorui, who was arrested before, if this was the case, there would be no regrets later. However, the investigator is not an immortal, he has no ability to predict the future, and he is unlucky, so something happened - Ye Gaoyu actually escaped!
Ye Gaoyu escaped from the police station. Sending the prisoners to the police station is still Director Sui Liubao's idea. In order to arrest Ye Gaoyu, not only the eleven investigators from the headquarters were dispatched, but even the police officers from the police station were mobilized. It was midnight after completing the task, and everyone was hungry, and it happened that the day was cold again, and everyone was hungry and cold. Sui Liubao then said that we should go to the police station first, get something to eat and warm up, and then call the city bureau to drive a jeep over and escort the prisoner to the city detention center for interrogation overnight. So, the group went to the police station, which was only five or six hundred meters away. At that time, the economic conditions were poor, the system was strict, and there was no "small treasury" in any grassroots unit. There is a two-cent night meal fee for overtime shifts, which is settled once a month, and what to use to satisfy your hunger when you are on duty is prepared. In an emergency like tonight, no one has prepared anything to eat in advance. How should this problem be solved? Sui Liubao has a way to do this. The "Special No. 1 Case" is an important case, and the case-handling expenses are reimbursed, and he has money in his pocket, so he took it out and asked the director of the police station to go to the noodle restaurant in the alley next door that serves supper all night, and each person will have a bowl of shredded pork noodles and ask the guy to send it over. Of course, Sui Liubao had something to say first, and he didn't receive the noodle night meal fee.
Sui Liubao's decision was undesirable for everyone, and there was a short-term excitement in the police station. Ye Gaoyu escaped when everyone was eating this simple supper.
There is a special room for temporary detention of prisoners, which is still left by the puppet police office during the Japanese puppet period, with an area of about ten square meters, the door is a wooden door, and the windows are also wooden, but the window frame is equipped with an iron fence more than ten millimeters thick. Ye Gaoyu just bent the iron fence and pulled a few out of it, and slipped along the alley behind. After investigation, it was only learned that this white-faced scholar who looked like Sven had Xi martial arts for many years. However, this escape was worse for Ye Gaoyu than not escaping, because of this escape, he went to the Hades Palace.
At the moment, a cadre of investigators was in a big mess, and immediately pursued the pursuit and reported the report. Qin Yingji was furious when he heard the news, but this is not the time to criticize, it is important to chase and flee first. As a result, the overall situation was mobilized, and all sub-bureaus and police stations were dispatched. At that time, the city wall of Nanning had not been demolished, and the city gate was closed at night, so it was not enough for Ye Gaoyu and his gang to escape from the city. However, after tossing until dawn, the fugitive was not found. After another two hours, a crowd found his body in the well at the mouth of the alley in Wujing Lane, where Ye Gaoyu's house was located.
Wujing Lane is an alley less than 100 meters long, inhabited by thirty or forty households, named after the five wells in the alley. The well where Ye Gaoyu's body was found was not among the five wells. It is said that when Wujing Lane was not formed and this section of Wing Chun Street had not yet become a climate, seven merchants met to open shops here to make money. Since the nearest river is also tens of meters away, it is inconvenient to live and operate, so the seven bosses raised funds and hired people to dig this well. Ye Gaoyu was born in Wujing Lane, and he has been playing in the open space around this well since he was a child.
At about 9 o'clock in the morning of this day, the "Golden Jar Pickle Shop" at the mouth of Wujing Lane was cleaned, and Mr. Xu took off the tablecloth spread on the account table and took it to the well platform to scrub it. So, Mr. Xu took a long bamboo pole and tied a net pocket with a thin rope in front of it to fish. The groundwater level in Nanning is high, and it is generally not necessary to dig deep to drill a well, but it is only two meters to the end. Mr. Xu put the bamboo pole into the well, and before he could reach the end, he came into contact with a foreign object that seemed too large for the volume of the well cavity - the corpse of Ye Gaoyu.
At this moment, the policemen of the two police stations, who were also wandering around Wujing Lane for the fugitive's business, rushed to hear the noise, separated the crowd of onlookers on the well platform, stabbed the body into the well with a bamboo pole, and called for someone to salvage it. After salvaging and putting the body on the well platform, everyone immediately recognized that the deceased was Ye Gaoyu. So, Shi Genjian had no need to squat down, showed up, asked the two policemen to protect the scene, and went to the police station to call Sui Liubao, who stayed at the headquarters, to report the situation.
In this way, Sui Liubao did not have to stay behind, and immediately conveyed the order to the investigators sent out to pursue him: immediately rush to Wujing Lane, Wing Chun Street. At that time, the police positions were not as detailed as they are now, and there were no technical personnel in Guangxi who were specifically responsible for criminal investigations, and they were all part-time criminal police. Sui Liubao also notified the municipal bureau to dispatch several criminal police officers with rich investigation experience and a forensic doctor to the scene.
Sui Liubao rushed to the scene after the arrangement, and at a glance, he knew that it was impossible to find traces through on-site investigation. Although Shi Genjian had told the two police officers at the scene to pay attention to protecting the scene before he called the Ben police station to report the situation to the headquarters, the two brothers had no professional training, more than enthusiasm, and little experience, and were busy with the recovery of the corpses—what a messy scene it was to retrieve the corpses from the well, even if there were any traces left before, they must have been lost. At that moment, Sui Liubao didn't look at the corpse first, but called the investigators Zou Huang, Xie Zhongtang, and Wang Dapei, who arrived with him front and back, to the side, and quietly ordered the three of them to go to Ye Gaoyu's residence to search.
Sure enough, the criminal police failed to find any valuable clues at the scene. The autopsy and identification of the medical examiner - first, a routine visual inspection of the appearance of Ye Gaoyu's body was conducted, and there were no scars on the skin surface of the head, face, neck and hands that were directly exposed, and the clothes on his body, cotton socks and leather shoes on his feet were also neat. After the photographs were taken, the body was moved to a nearby unowned room for autopsy. Because at this time, someone had already been sent to drive to pick up the owner of the "Yijun Tea Shop" and ask Ming Ye Gaoyu about the eating time and food he ate for dinner yesterday, so the forensic doctor made a more accurate judgment on the time of his death based on the food residue in the deceased's stomach: he should have died between half past one and half past two this morning. As for the cause of death, the medical examiner believed that it should have been drowning, and from the fact that there were no injuries on the whole body, it could be preliminarily determined that he committed suicide by throwing himself into a well. Of course, the final conclusion will not be made until after a blood test (which later confirmed that the forensic conclusion was accurate).
The autopsy found no findings related to solving the case, and the investigators who were busy at the deceased's home did not find much to gain. Ye Gaoyu is a bachelor, although he has a house, he usually lives in the "Yijun Tea Shop", where he eats and drinks, which is easier than living at home and having to be busy with everything, and it is good to save a few dollars. However, Ye Gaoyu does not often go back to this home, according to the tea shop Boss Lan, Ye Gaoyu will go home every once in a while, and it is not clear what to do when he goes home. Therefore, when the investigators used the key found from the deceased to open the door and enter the house, there was no feeling that the doors and windows had not been opened for a long time, and there was no dust on the surface of the tables, chairs, and floors. Investigators searched the three bungalows repeatedly and made no doubts. In the afternoon, as soon as the investigators didn't take a break, they held a case analysis meeting, and everyone just sat together, and Director Qin Yingji also came. When having lunch in the cafeteria before, Sui Liubao had already briefly reported the case to Qin Yingji, and of course he had to quickly criticize himself about Ye Gaoyu's escape. Now, Qin Yingji came over to attend the meeting, and Sui Liubao asked the director to say a few words first. Qin Yingji said that the provincial party committee has a limited deadline for cracking this case, and if I say a word, I will waste everyone's time with a single sentence, so let's not say it, and invite comrades to speak and discuss the facts of the case.
Everyone first discussed the cause of Ye Gaoyu's death. Because Ye Gaoyu's escape from the police station was related to every investigator present, his tone was a little lacking in confidence when he talked about it. The analysis is like this - the time when Ye Gaoyu escaped from the police station was between 0:45 and 1:00 this morning, and the time of death was between 1:30 and 2:30, and the forensic doctor determined that it was a suicide. This was difficult for the investigators to accept. This guy seized such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and was able to escape with great effort, is it just to seek death? Since he wants to seek death, why not just commit suicide at the police station? Untie his trouser belt and hang it on the iron fence of the window frame, and just drill his neck into it, why should he escape? Ye Gaoyu died in the well at the mouth of Wujing Alley, which shows that he had already thought about going home when he escaped. Whether it was back or not later, no one knows. Investigator Shi Genjian was ordered to go to his house to squat, and when he rushed there at about half past one this morning, he was brought over by a police officer from the police station, and the two climbed over the wall and entered his courtyard, where the door was locked at that time, and they stayed in the courtyard until dawn before moving to the entrance of the alley. From this point of view, Ye Gaoyu does not seem to have gone home.
However, if the conclusion of the forensic doctor is overturned and the cause of Ye Gaoyu's death is determined to be homicide, there is no basis. First, the corpse was indeed drowned, let alone a forensic doctor, the investigators present had all participated in the professional training courses held by the provincial department, and the lungs revealed during the medical autopsy were clear; second, with Ye Gaoyu's ability to bend the iron fence to escape from the detention room, if anyone wanted to get him into the well and drown him alive, it was not impossible, but after doing so, it would definitely leave obvious traces at the scene, especially on Ye Gaoyu's body, but no traces were found now.
Whether it is suicide or homicide, from the perspective of evidence, it seems that the basis for the argument of suicide should be more solid. For example, after Ye Gaoyu escaped, he wanted to go home and get the money and absconded, but when he arrived at the entrance of the alley, he was afraid, and he was very worried about whether he could escape from the city smoothly. In this way, Ye Gaoyu's suicide has a reasonable explanation. At the meeting, two investigators held this view. Originally, most of everyone was still arguing, but at this moment, the director of the hall is sitting in the venue, and the time is passing by every second, everyone feels that the most practical problem should be solved: how to investigate down?
At this time, Sui Liubao, who had not expressed his opinion, opened his mouth, he did not express his opinion on the cause of death, but said that this was not an independent homicide case, but a "sub-case" and a branch line under the "Special No. 1 Case" that we are investigating, regardless of whether Ye Gaoyu's cause of death was homicide or suicide, one thing is certain, that is, it is all related to the "Special No. 1 Case", and the letterhead and envelope of the "Nanhuai Tang" involved in the case were printed by the deceased instructing his cousin to find Wei Yulin to carve woodblock prints, so he is the person involved in the case. Originally, we could have traced the "Special No. 1 Case" through the fact that he printed the "Nanhuaitang" letterhead and envelope, but now that Ye Gaoyu is dead, we can't even figure out the cause of his death. So my opinion is whether to put aside the issue of the cause of death for a while, or to focus on the main line of "Special Case No. 1" to investigate. Where is the clue? or is it on Ye Gaoyu. We can follow the trajectory of his activities before his death for a thorough investigation, the geese have left a voice, the people have left traces, Ye Gaoyu was born in Nanning, grew up in Nanning, his birthplace is still his home, the trajectory before his death is very clear. I believe that if we choose the right direction and do a solid and meticulous job in the investigation, we will be able to complete the tasks assigned by the provincial party committee.
All the investigators thought that Director Sui was reasonable, and Qin Yingji nodded frequently. So everyone asked Director Qin for instructions. Qin Yingji said that Director Sui has already said it thoroughly, and time is precious, so I won't talk about it, let's discuss it, see what to do in the next work, and just do a division of labor.
In the morning, when all the investigators of the special case command were dispatched to the scene to investigate, Wang Dapei was ordered to drive a motorcycle to the "Yijun Tea Shop" where Ye Gaoyu worked before his death, and took the boss Lan Jinshui to the scene to cooperate with the investigation. Sui Liubao once learned some about Ye Gaoyu's life from Boss Lan, and learned that Ye Gaoyu's life was simple and regular. He works in a tea shop during the day, and he has to go out in the morning and evening, rain or shine. What are you going out for? Not going home. There is a "Zhiyun Teahouse" on Dongsheng Street three or four hundred meters away from the "Yijun Tea Shop", its owner Chen Zhiyun and Lan Jinshui are three generations of world friends, and the two businesses are just the upper and lower families, for many years, the tea required by the "Zhiyun Teahouse" has been purchased from the "Yijun Tea Shop". Three years ago, the bookkeeper of the teahouse died of illness, and there was no satisfactory candidate to replace him. Boss Chen discussed with Boss Lan, can you ask Mr. Ye from your accounting room to help him for a while? As soon as Boss Lan told Ye Gaoyu, Ye Gaoyu agreed, so he went to the teahouse to help Boss Chen do the accounts during the tea shop in the morning and evening. Boss Chen was very satisfied with Ye Gaoyu, saying that Mr. Ye only came to do accounts in the morning and evening every day, and he didn't spend much time, but he did much better work than the original bookkeeper. So, I asked Ye Gaoyu's opinion on whether he could work part-time for a long time. Ye Gaoyu said that he works for Boss Lan's tea shop, and Boss Lan is the owner, so he has to listen to Boss Lan in this matter. As soon as Boss Chen said to Lan Jinshui, he had nothing to say, so that Ye Gaoyu's part-time job would be fixed. However, this person seems to be a little different, when he used to help temporarily, the teahouse gave him some money every month as overtime pay, and he took it, and now that he is working part-time, when Boss Chen negotiated his salary with him, he said that he didn't want any money. Boss Chen couldn't figure out what kind of road this was, so he asked Boss Lan, who was not clear, and the two asked Ye Gaoyu together if he was afraid that the salary was small, and Ye Gaoyu denied it. So, does Mr. Ye have any other requirements? Ye Gaoyu said that there is no request, if possible, please ask Boss Chen to clean up the hut in the backyard of the teahouse and make an account for me, I take a fancy to the quietness of the backyard, go over every morning and evening, practice, drink tea, and do accounts, which is quite good. Boss Chen nodded immediately after hearing this, and immediately made arrangements. As a result, the backyard of the teahouse became another place for Ye Gaoyu's activities. Therefore, the places that Ye Gaoyu usually sets foot in are basically the three places of tea shop, tea house and Wujing Lane's home.
At this moment, the investigation of Ye Gaoyu's activities before his death by the special project command revolves around these three places. Sui Liubao arranged for the personnel to divide the work: two investigators were arranged in each place to investigate, and the group responsible for Wujing Lane also included investigating whether anyone had heard anything unusual after one o'clock this morning.
As soon as the case analysis meeting ended, the investigators immediately took action. I thought that if I spread it out like this, I would always be able to gain something, but at 10 o'clock the next morning, the headquarters held a meeting to summarize the investigation of the three groups of investigators, but the result was disappointing-
Zou Huang and Shi Genjian were responsible for investigating the situation in Wujing Lane, one is whether there are neighbors around the time of Ye Gaoyu's death or passers-by who happen to walk by at night to hear any movements, and the other is whether Ye Gaoyu usually receives friends at his home. Accompanied by the household registration police of the police station, they visited every household in Wujing Lane, as well as dozens of shops and houses on the left and right sides of the alley, but they did not gain anything. The two analyzed the result of this hard work, and thought that it was the winter season, and people closed their doors and windows when they rested at night, and even covered their heads with quilts, so it was understandable that they did not hear any movement at the mouth of Wujing Lane on Wing Chun Street. They can only accept the latter result. Ye Gaoyu's owner, "Yijun Tea Shop", Boss Lan, said when he provided information before, although Ye Gaoyu went home every once in a while, he didn't stay at home for a long time, because he didn't have anything to do at home. During the interview, the situation said by the neighbors was consistent with the information provided by Boss Lan, and almost every neighbor said that Ye Gaoyu was often seen in and out of the alley alone, usually in the evening, and occasionally in the morning or noon. With so many people in unison, the investigators had no reason to be suspicious.
Xie Zhongtang and Zu Lang investigated the "Yijun Tea Shop" in the division of labor. This tea shop, like the "Zhiyun Teahouse", is also an old shop that has been open for more than 50 years, and it is already the third generation of the owner Lanjin Sailor. Boss Lan is a timid businessman, and he has always been cautious in choosing bookkeepers, clerks, and apprentices, and first, the introducer must be an acquaintance. The second is to have a guarantor, and the guarantor must be a friend he has made for more than ten years. The third is to personally interview the recommended candidates, and will quietly go to their home location to inquire about the details, a bit like a political trial. Fourth, after recruiting people in, there is also an investigation process, in which the investigation of honesty is to quietly put the banknotes in the place where the object of investigation is in and out, see the reaction after it is discovered, turn a blind eye to it, and leave - this is the old rivers and lakes; Boss Lan is more strict with Ye Gaoyu's selection and employment, because this person is hired as Mr. Bookkeeper. Ye Gaoyu passed the test, and after taking up his post, he didn't say much and worked hard. During the investigation, the investigators not only talked to the owner, clerk, apprentice and family members of the tea shop one by one, but also found the neighboring shops and houses of the "Yijun Tea Shop" to understand. In this way, no clues were investigated along the way.
The third way is to investigate Ye Gaoyu's activities in the "Zhiyun Teahouse", which is the work of investigators Wang Dapei and Chen Baiyong. They went to the ten-square-meter hut in the backyard of the teahouse that Ye Gaoyu had taken a fancy to as the account room, and it was very tidy, just like Ye Gaoyu's account room in the tea shop and the style of his own home. Ledgers were neatly stacked on the ledger or shelves, and these books, like the books of the tea shop, were temporarily sealed by the headquarters and taken to the city bureau for future reference when they left. When he found a locked cabinet, the investigator asked Boss Chen if he had a key. Boss Chen said that there was no key, this lock was brought by Ye Gaoyu himself, and he didn't know what it contained. The investigator tried it with the key obtained from Ye Gaoyu's corpse, but none of them could be opened, so he suspected that there might be some secret hidden in this cabinet. Chen Baiyong asked Boss Chen to get a hammer to smash the lock. After the hammer was retrieved, the scout changed his mind and said to wait and see if there was a key hidden elsewhere. A mouthful of drawers rummaged through, and in the mouth where the miscellaneous items were placed, a tin can box was found, which contained nail clippers, small scissors, needles and threads, ear pickers and other small items, and a key in it. I tried it with this key and opened the lock on the cabinet. There was only one thing in the cupboard: an American-made seventeen-lamp radio wrapped in a thin quilt.
At first, the investigators thought it was a transceiver, but plugged it in on the spot and turned it on, only to find that it only had the function of an ordinary radio. Later, he brought it back and asked the radio detectors of the Social Department of the Provincial Party Committee to make an appraisal, but nothing suspicious was found. However, the aircraft has excellent performance, can automatically eliminate radio interference, and can receive short-wave signals relatively clearly, and can clearly hear the broadcasts of overseas radio stations that were designated as enemy stations at that time, such as "Voice of America" and "Voice of Free China."
The investigators found all the members of the teahouse from the boss down to the apprentice, learned about Ye Gaoyu's situation one by one, and comprehensively sketched out Ye Gaoyu's activities in the teahouse - the teahouse opens at half past four every morning, and Ye Gaoyu usually comes over at about five o'clock. The teahouse has two doors, the front door is the door of the store, for everyone to enter and exit; the back door is in the corner of the backyard, is a side door with a width of one meter, which was not used before, it has been broken, after Ye Gaoyu came, he said that he sometimes came early, or left late at night, I am afraid that the men and apprentices who slept in the front store hall were alarmed, and asked to repair the back door and install the boss Biling lock, so that sometimes they could enter and exit. Boss Chen nodded spontaneously. After the back door was repaired, he gave Ye Gaoyu a key. However, except for Ye Gaoyu, no one else entered or exited through the back door. When Ye Gaoyu came in the morning, he usually entered and exited through the front door, and at night, he rarely entered and exited the front door, basically through the back door. The teahouse guy went to bed early at night and lay down as soon as it was dark, so no one paid attention to whether Ye Gaoyu came, when he came, when he left, and what he was doing in the account room. As for Boss Chen, he goes home to sleep every day, so he can't talk about it.
In this way, if Ye Gaoyu met with someone in the backyard account room at night and plotted something, no one would know. In addition, it is unclear whether he came to the account room in the backyard of the teahouse after he escaped from the police station at 1 a.m. on December 17. Judging from the scene in the account room, one thing is certain: there were no fights here.
Wang Dapei and Chen Baiyong took the account books and radios back to the headquarters, called experts to appraise the radios, and checked the account books again.
In this way, when all the investigators gathered at noon on December 18 to summarize the investigation situation, it was basically a blank slate. The reason why I say "basically" is because of the speculation that the radio and Ye Gaoyu might use the account room in the backyard of the teahouse to carry out activities. However, after discussing it, it is believed that it is not possible to effectively investigate this at present. Needless to say, the radio is self-explanatory, except for Ye Gaoyu at the back door, and it is impossible to find out if there are other people in and out - outside the back door is a small river, and there is only a two-foot-wide and overgrown path by the river, let alone at night, it is rare for someone to go there during the day, who to investigate?
Therefore, the hope of obtaining clues to solve the case through the investigation of Ye Gaoyu was disappointed.
Fifth, the investigation has been frustrated
At this point, the special case command had no choice but to give up the investigation in the direction of Ye Gaoyu's activities before his death, and instead opened up a new direction of investigation. This direction of investigation was proposed by Director Sui Liubao. Here's how he thinks -
The letterhead and envelope of the "anti-letter" are branded as "Nanhuaitang," a time-honored Chinese medicine store that has been closed for nearly half a century; what kind of consideration did the criminals have for making this decision? In other words, what is their motive? If it is said that it is to prevent the public security organs from investigating the "anti-lettering," then it is not enough to simply use white paper as letterhead and paste some envelopes with white paper? Although the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the People's Republic of China was established at that time, there were no restrictions on the envelopes used to send letters, as long as sufficient stamps were affixed. However, if the criminal did not have a sense of prevention and anti-investigation, he did a good job in deliberately concealing his handwriting. This may seem strange at first, but when you think about it, you can see it. The reason why the criminals wanted to use a name that seemed to have a bit of a charlatan flavor was to create a false impression in an attempt to expand the influence of these "rebellions." Of course, judging from the analysis of psychological warfare at the first case analysis meeting of the special case command after the occurrence of this case, the criminal was not professional in psychological warfare, and his actions seemed to be suspected of being "wild ways." The criminal wanted to create a momentum for his crime and expand his influence, so he considered using a certain font size that seemed to be relatively loud, but judging from the level of the "counter-letter" text he wrote, his writing skills were limited, so he couldn't think of a suitable font size. I can't think of it, but I insist on using it, so what should I do? Just grab one of the loud fonts I've heard before and make do with it. There are brands like "Nanhuaitang" on the ground in Nanning, but if you use the font names that still exist on the market, it will inevitably seem too child's play, and you will not be able to create momentum and expand the influence, so you must use the name of the time-honored brand that has been closed. In this way, there is the idea of "Nanhuai Hall".
In this way, we can deduce the basic characteristics of the criminals: they have read books, but their cultural level is limited, and their level of ancient Chinese is even more average, and it is still a question whether they have even read "Guwen Guan Zhi"; they may like to read martial arts novels and have a good feeling for the set of rivers and lakes described in the books; they will not be more than 35 years old, and they will have the opportunity to contact and carefully inspect the letterheads and envelopes of the original "Nanhuaitang", and they may have been born in a merchant family.
So, the next step was set: to arrange investigators to investigate the "Xingde Pawn" and Cuigu Nunnery respectively.
Investigators Shi Genjian and Zu Lang were ordered to investigate the "Xingde Pawn". This pawnshop has appeared before, because Master Jingjie, the abbot of Cuigu'an, provided information to the investigators that after Zhang's monkhood, about five years after the Republic of China, he was ordered by the then abbot Master Mengxiu to write a letter to the "Xingde Pawn" to contact the ransom matter, so the investigators went to the "Xingde Pawn" to investigate, and got the original letter of the letter. After comparing the original with the "anti-letter", it is found that the letterhead and envelope of the "anti-letter" are copied according to the original style of the "Nanhuaitang", and all the features are the same, except that the font has changed. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the "Xingde Pawn" to see who in this century-old brand has the conditions to contact the "Nanhuaitang" letterhead and envelope.
Investigators Zou Huang and Wang Dapei were ordered to investigate Cuigu Nunnery, and the goal was whether the nunnery still used the "Nanhuaitang" letterhead and envelope to communicate with other merchants or individuals.
In the fifth year of the Republic of China, the old shopkeeper of "Xingde Pawn" Zhai Xuzheng has long been ancient, and his son Zhai Huaixin is now a septuagenarian, and the pawnshop was handed over to his son Zhai Ruoyang to operate more than ten years ago. Zhai Ruoyang is in his fifties this year, but he has been in chaos all these years, and he has to bear huge psychological pressure to run a pawn shop, so it looks like he is seven or eight years older than his actual age. Boss Zhai received Shi Genjian and Zu Lang, maybe he was busy with business matters, and he seemed to have some thoughts about the investigator's second visit, and he took the initiative to say that you had taken away my grandfather's letter last time, and now what else is going on. The investigator said that there were details to investigate about the letter, and then asked the "Xingde Pawn" about the custody of the correspondence in business. Although Zhai Ruoyang is a little impatient, in the old days, businessmen believed that harmony made money, and his temper was generally good, especially when the pawn shop dealt with the police, he had to have enough patience to increase his temper. Therefore, Boss Zhai invited his father out to answer the investigator's questions together.
According to Zhai Huaixin, since the establishment of "Xingde Pawn" in the Xianfeng period, it has always been in strict accordance with the rules set by the founder and his ancestor Zhai Bozhou: if you open a pawnshop, because you may receive stolen goods by mistake or be planted every day, every business and every foreign business exchange must be recorded, so that you can use it as a certificate to prove your innocence to the government at any time, so as not to suffer from unwarranted disasters. Every year on the fifth day of the first lunar month, the owner has to copy it himself, read it to all the store staff, and then hang it in the store. Therefore, every transaction and every correspondence of "Xingde Pawn" since its inception has been preserved, the letters received are originals, and the letters sent are copies, indicating where, by whom, and the date of sending. The business files were stored in a separate room on the side of the storeroom on the second floor, and had been in the hands of the owner himself, and the rest of the store was not allowed to touch them. In the hands of Zhai Ruoyang, he was still in charge at the beginning, but later because he had too many things to do, he couldn't be busy, and his daughter Zhai Guxian, who happened to be married, died at that time, and her husband was forced to return to her parents' house by her in-laws, so she was responsible for keeping records.
In this way, the investigators naturally wanted to know about Zhai Guxian's situation. However, because the other party is Zhai Ruoyang's daughter, she can only chat casually like a family chat, nothing more than her reading situation, how old she is, when she got married, when she was widowed, etc., as for her daily activities and interactions, it is inconvenient to know. Zhai Guxian, 27 years old this year, was admitted to a normal school after graduating from junior high school, and after graduating from the normal school, he went to work as a teacher in a primary school. Married at the age of twenty-two, her husband's family is a well-known family in Nanning, and her husband Xu Yicheng is five years older than Zhai Guxian, and he is the accountant of "Xinning Pharmaceutical Factory". Three years ago, Xu Yicheng died in a car accident, Zhai Guxian has not yet recovered from the pain of losing his husband, and his young son died of meningitis. The husband's family believes in yin and yang, and at present, the whole family except for the father-in-law Xu Lao Zi unanimously believes that it is the bad luck brought by Zhai Guxian. Old man Xu was a little majestic on the ground in Guangxi in the old days. He was born in a wealthy family, and served as a major general and brigade commander in Li Zongren's army, and after returning to his hometown, he became a gang leader. In 1947, Mr. Xu was seventy-two years old, but his brain had not yet entered the water, and he had a clear mind about things. He both believed in and did not believe in the theory of yin and yang, so he asked people to invite the famous divination gentleman on the ground in Nanning, and Zhang Guyi, who was known as "one hexagram for life" on the rivers and lakes, to calculate a hexagram for Zhai Guxian, and the conclusion was: This female prisoner is a gram, one gram, two grams, and three self-denial. Therefore, the whole family advocated that Zhai Guxian be expelled back to his parents' house, but the old man Xu shook his head, saying that she had already rejected all the people who should be killed—my son and grandson—and if she wanted to be restrained, she would be punished herself, so why should she be driven out of the house and ruined my name? The old man made up his mind, and Zhai Guxian stayed at the moment.
Who knows, Old Man Xu said this sentence for only seven days, and he died suddenly of a cerebral hemorrhage. So, the Xu family didn't even let Zhai Guxian attend the funeral and drove her back to her parents' house. Zhai Guxian was stimulated by this, and all his thoughts were discouraged, and he didn't want to do anything after returning to his parents' house. Grandfather Zhai Huaixin asked his father to hand over the two tasks of business records and keeping accounts to Zhai Guxian on the grounds that he was too busy.
After Shi Genjian and Zu Lang left the "Xingde Pawn", they went to the police station and asked the household registration police to invite the director of the neighborhood committee and the security officer where the "Xingde Pawn" was located to learn about Zhai Guxian's situation. Listening to it, their impression of Zhai Guxian is still good. This is due to: first, as women who also came from the old society, they expressed deep sympathy for Zhai Guxian's experience of being driven back by the Xu family after losing her husband and child; second, they reported that Zhai Guxian had always been well received by her neighbors since she was a child, saying that she was extremely sympathetic and helpful, and often secretly took money, clothes, and food to help beggars and poor people without hiding from her family, and she still does so until now; third, Zhai Guxian's normal graduation qualification was already regarded as a "great intellectual" at that time Among the most illiterate housewives around, there are very few, so the neighborhood committee, the street and even the district women's federation ask her from time to time to help make a blackboard newspaper, a wall newspaper or plan a literary evening or something, and she is also very willing to participate and do her best. The leaders of the district women's federation had intended to train her as an activist, but when they talked to her, she refused because of her family background (a capitalist) and her in-laws' background (her late father-in-law was a reactionary officer, gang leader, and bully).
The investigator asked: What is Zhai Guxian's political stance? Does he usually spread backward remarks or anything? The other party replied that he had not disseminated backward remarks, and sometimes he would refute them on the spot when he heard others complaining and saying strange things. The household registration police on the side also said that Zhai Guxian's political stance should be correct, and in the first half of the year, she also caught a ruffian who posted reactionary slogans at the back door of the vegetable market and almost beat him.
The neighborhood committee said that she didn't see anyone she was socializing with, and that if there was something in the neighborhood committee, street, or district that asked her to participate or help, she would come out; if there was nothing to do, she would stay in the pawnshop and do her business. I heard that someone wanted to introduce her to a partner, saying that it was a new society, women turned over, and their marriage was autonomous, but she refused.
The investigators reported the investigation to the leaders, and everyone thought that Zhai Guxian should not be suspected of committing a crime, so the investigation of the "Xingde Pawn" ended here.
Investigators Zou Huang and Wang Dapei were responsible for investigating Cuigu Nunnery, and they were received by the abbot, Master Jingjie. Jingjie had already been investigated once, so she didn't feel sudden that the investigator had raised the "Nanhuai Hall" letterhead and envelope again. After the last investigation, she seriously recalled what the investigator said, and even reminded her of the other five times when she used the "Nanhuai Tang" letterhead and envelope brought by Jinghui (Zhang's) when she became a monk, and these five recipients were: "Wu Ji Incense and Candle Shop" on Yuhang Street, and sent a letter to settle the money for the resale of incense and candles with the shop; "Xiushanzhai" in Getang Lane to settle the accounts of the vegetarian banquet; "Jin Dashanren", a rich man on Wuxiang West Second Street, urging him to pay three years' accounts to Cuigu'an; and "Dayuan Rice Shop" on Shibu Street , congratulated the new boss and inquired about the account, and the "Tianfutang Chinese Pharmacy" on Water Street expressed gratitude to the store for giving medicine to Cuigu'an free of charge.
These five letters should have been sent between the 10th year of the Republic of China and the 19th year of the Republic of China, because Jinghui (Zhang) died in the 19th year of the Republic of China. Before dying, Jinghui asked that after her death, all the belongings she brought with her when she became a monk were burned, and the abbot respected her last wishes, gathered the nuns of the whole nunnery to hold a ceremony, and counted them in public and burned them all one by one. Jingjie remembers very clearly, which also includes the remaining "Nanhuai Hall" letterhead and envelopes.
On December 20, six days after the occurrence of the "Special No. 1 Case", the special case command launched an investigation into the above-mentioned five firms.
The first route was to inspect the "Wu Ji Incense Candle Shop" on Yuhang Street by Director Sui Liubao and investigator Xiao Shen and a police officer from the police station. The name of "Wu Ji Incense Candle Shop" is very cheesy, but it is also a time-honored brand on the ground in Nanning. The original site of the store was a temple, and later it was burned down by fire and became a ruin, until the early Republic of China, it was bought by a businessman surnamed Wu from Liuzhou, and a house was built on it to open an incense and candle shop. Soon after the opening, the folk legend has been that the incense and candles sold in the store are dedicated to the Bodhisattva, and everyone remembered that the store site was originally a temple ruin, so they suddenly realized, and the sign of "Wu Ji" was played out in this way. So, what is the relationship between Cuigu'an and "Wu Ji"? The relationship between the two sides is similar to that of corrupt officials selling famous liquor and cigarettes to the shops in front of their homes. Cuigu Nunnery often receives the families of some dignitaries, these noble ladies usually treat servants and beggars like iron hens, and when they want to make a wish to the Bodhisattva, they suddenly become generous, buy a large number of high-quality incense candles to bring to the nunnery, but do not want to personally spend time and effort to worship and worship, so they entrust the nunnery to act as an agent, of course, for this to offer a little incense money. Where can this group of nuns in the nunnery really burn and kowtow for others, and once they are placed in the treasury, they will be considered the property of the nunnery. This kind of incense candle is generally sold to pilgrims, but sometimes there are too many to sell, so the price is cut and sold back to the incense candle shop, and the designated resale store of Cuigu Nunnery is "Wu Ji". The letter that Venerable Jingjie mentioned was for the settlement of the rebate of incense and candles at the end of the year.
So, did "Wu Ji" still keep that letter like the "Xingde Pawn"? Boss Wu, who received the investigators, was a young old man in his 50s, and he said that I knew about this matter, and it was the 13th year of the Republic of China. At that time, I followed my father to learn business, and the letter was written to my father, who opened it and handed it to me, asking me to check the accounts with Mr. Wang, the account office, and then asked Mr. Wang to send the money to the nunnery. I have forgotten what to do with that letter.
Sui Liubao asked, "How do you deal with other such letters?"
Boss Wu replied: "It's all kept by Mr. Bookkeeper." ”。
So I asked Mr. Bookkeeper, and it turned out to be Mr. Wang. Sui Liubao asked his age, he was sixty-six, and he seemed to be still in good spirits, and he couldn't help but admire his way of maintaining his health. When asked about the letter, he said that he still remembered that when he went to Cuigu Nunnery to deliver money, the nun invited him to eat a bowl of somen noodles. Then he asked about the whereabouts of the letter. Mr. Wang led the investigator to the account desk, took out a bundle of letters tied with rope from a cabinet, and found the thirteenth year of the Republic of China, a total of about 20 letters, opened and checked, there was no "Nanhuai Hall" letter. The investigator suspected that he had misremembered the time, so he asked him to check the three years before and after, and checked them one by one, but there was still nothing. Sui Liubao said to simply check them all, maybe it was misplaced in another place. However, after rummaging through every bundle, there was no letter.
Sui Liubao felt that it seemed a little suspicious, so he asked Mr. Wang who else had touched these old letters besides you. Answer: No. Sui Liubao asked again, So, apart from you who have the key to this cabinet, is there anyone else in the store who has the key? Mr. Wang said that Boss Wu also has the key, but he has already given it to Jiawei at the end of the year. Who is Jia Wei? Boss Wu's son, a 25-year-old young proprietor of the incense candle shop. Boss Wu had the heart to let him inherit the mantle, so he let him learn to be familiar with every position in the store, from carrying a large bag of raw materials to making ancestral secret incense candles, from standing at the counter to receiving customers to sitting at the account counter and pulling the abacus. In the past few days, the Municipal Federation of Industry and Commerce held an accounting business training course, and Boss Wu registered his son early, asking him to go out early and return late to learn Xi skills every day.
When Sui Liubao left the "Wu Ji Incense Candle Shop", he put a question mark in his heart
The second way is for investigators Zou Huang and Wang Dapei to investigate the "Xiushan Zhai". This is a vegetarian restaurant, which is somewhat famous in Nanning City. However, there are a few vegetarian dishes in the restaurant, but they can't burn Cuigu'an. The two generations of owners of Xiushanzhai have personally gone to Cuigu Nunnery several times to ask the abbot to teach the chef of the restaurant the secret skills, but they have been politely refused. In desperation, "Xiushanzhai" had to discuss with Cuigu'an: whether it is possible to select a few seasons every year, and Gui'an will send a master who is good at cooking to our restaurant to cook those dishes for guests. Isn't this trying to steal skills? Cuigu'an immediately refused. "Xiushanzhai" had to settle for the next best, then we sent a chef to set up a tent as a temporary restaurant in the empty field outside the gate of Gui'an, and you arranged for the master to cook the dishes in the hermitage, and sent them out one by one to serve the table, and we paid a certain fee to Gui'an. Only then did Cuiguan agree. As a result, a few days before and after the major seasons every year, the front of Tsui Gu Nuan is like a market, and vegetarian enthusiasts from all over the city come to taste the vegetarian dishes cooked by "Xiu Shan Zhai" and Cui Gu An. This kind of scene continued until the Japanese army occupied Nanning for the first time. In this way, at the end of each year, Cuiguan has to settle accounts with "Xiuzenzhai". The letter written to "Xiushanzhai" on the letterhead and envelope of "Nanhuaitang" mentioned by the abbot Jingjie is for this matter. The investigators looked over and saw that "Xiushanzhai" was still there, but when they told the boss Cui Gui about it, Boss Cui's answer made them immediately discouraged. Cui Gui said that it was his father's time to cooperate with Cuigu'an, and when his father died, when the museum came to him, all the letters and accounts were there, but in 1941, "Xiushanzhai" lost a fire, although there was not much loss, but those letters, accounts and everything were destroyed during the firefighting.
Third Route investigators Chen Baiyong and Xiao Niu, accompanied by Liu, deputy director of the police station, conducted an investigation on the "Jin Dashan people". "Kim Dae Seon" is a Korean ethnic whose real name is Kim Jong-yi, and it is said that his grandfather was proficient in medicine, and was conscripted into the army as a military doctor of the Taiping Army during the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, and went to Nanjing with the Heavenly King. Three months before the fall of Tianjing, his grandfather fled back to Nanning in disguise with a lot of gold, silver and jewelry, and hid in a temple in the countryside for a full ten years, only to reappear after the limelight had completely passed. Since then, he has abandoned medicine and business, bought land and built houses, and used the gold, silver and jewelry brought back from Nanjing as the capital, because of the law, he became a famous rich man in Nanning a few years later. In his later years, the old man believed in Buddhism, was kind and charitable, gave clothes and quilts in winter every year, seeds in spring, decoction in summer, porridge in autumn, and left his last words before his death to set this up as a family rule, and the people called him "Jin Dashan man". After that, his son Jin Zhiliang and his grandson Jin Zhongyi all followed the example of the old man, and the name of "Jin Dashan Man" was inherited. However, Kim Jong-yi is stingy by nature, and while following the ancestral teachings to give alms to the poor, he also plays with merchants and owes debts. The letter from Cuigu Nunnery was urging the "Kim Dae Seonjin" to pay the fee for inviting the nunnery to do business for three years.
When Chen Baiyong, Xiao Niu and Lao Liu came to the door, the "Jin Dashan Man" who was seventy miles away was already sick in bed, but his mind was still clear, and when he asked him about the letter, he still remembered that he said that he went to Cuigu Nunnery to pay the money a few days after receiving the letter, and the letter was also brought, and after paying the money, the abbot issued a receipt with the seal of the nunnery, and he left the letter there.
The fourth route investigators Xie Zhongtang and Zu Lang were responsible for the investigation of the "Dayuan Rice Travel". The four-bay façade of this rice shop is a relatively large rice shop in Nanning City. The boss's surname is Bao, he is in his sixties, because he is bent on continuing the incense, but the eldest wife only gives birth to a daughter and no children, so he married a little wife at the age of forty, and the little wife lived up to her husband's expectations and soon gave birth to a son. This son was obtained after a long period of longing, so he named it "Pande". After four years, the little wife gave birth to another son, and the boss was overjoyed and named "Panto". After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the business of Mihang has been handed over to Bao Pande to take care of. When the investigator came to the door, the twenty-four-four-five-year-old Bao Pan was warmly received, and after hearing the intention, he said that I don't know about this matter, and I will invite my father out and ask him. Old Man Bao's attitude is completely different from that of his son, he already has a cold face, and he seems to be deliberately cold, which makes it even worse. After listening to the investigator's explanation, he nodded his head and then shook his head - I remember it, but the letter was gone. I can't remember this, but I guess it was disposed of when I disposed of the waste. This kind of letter to settle the rice payment, the rice bank received more in a year, how can it be kept in the warehouse?
Fifth Route investigators Shi Genjian and Jin Zhiqing, accompanied by Xiao Yang, a household registration police officer at the police station, conducted an investigation into the "Tianfutang Chinese Pharmacy". In the old days, there was a rule in Chinese medicine stores, which was organized by the industry association to join hands with the Chinese medicine community to conduct a free clinic once a year. Lang Zhong does not charge money for prescribing prescriptions, and the prescriptions written on them indicate which Chinese pharmacy you can go to to redeem the medicine for free - of course, the prescriptions prescribed by Lang Zhong are all cheap herbs. So, what does this have to do with Cuigu'an? That's because the old mother of Boss Zhang of "Tianfutang" has been ill for a long time, and Boss Zhang is a well-known filial son, so he asked his wife to go to Cuigu'an to make a wish: If the old mother recovers from her illness, "Tianfutang" will pay for ten Langzhong to have free medical treatment in the name of Cuigu'an, and the medicine stones prescribed by "Tianfutang" will be provided free of charge. A few months later, the mother's condition was relieved and she was able to get up and walk, so Boss Zhang repaid her wish. This is of course a good thing to be remembered for Cuigu'an, so at the end of the year, I sent a letter to "Tianfutang" to express my gratitude.
That night, the headquarters summed up the investigation of the above-mentioned five roads, analyzed it, and seemed to have doubts about the loss of the letter from the "Wu Ji Incense and Candle Shop", so it decided to investigate "Wu Ji".
On the morning of the next day, Sui Liubao assigned investigators to the police station where "Wu Ji" was located to investigate, and the Yongning branch suddenly called, saying that some employees of the "Dayuan Rice Store" reported a situation to the branch bureau: When the investigators went to the rice store to investigate yesterday, the young owner Bao Pande was very polite to the investigators on the surface, but when he went inside and asked his father to come out to answer the investigators' questions, he actually told the old father, "You don't have to take it seriously, you just can't tell anything clearly."
When Sui Liubao heard this, he felt that there seemed to be something wrong with this "Dayuan Rice Travel". After thinking about it, I called three scouts and told us to go for a trip. When he arrived at Demixing, Bao Pande was directing a group of men to pour rice into the rice hoard, and he couldn't help but be stunned when he saw four plainclothes policemen coming at once, but then reacted, resumed yesterday's enthusiasm and politeness, and took the initiative to ask if he wanted to invite his old father out for investigation. The investigator said that he would not investigate today, and that he would conduct a search on your account. Bao Pan forced himself to calm down when he heard this, but a trace of horror flashed in his eyes that caught Sui Liubao's sharp eyes.
As a result of the investigators' search of Mixing, there was indeed no letter from "Nanhuaitang", but they found a set of woodworking and woodcarving tools, as well as some high-quality wooden boards as large as magazines and small as palms, steamed at high temperatures and dried in the shade. The scout was summoned to command immediately.
Bao Pan said that these tools and planks were all found by his brother Bao Pan. He explained that Bao Panzhi likes to write and paint, and has loved to carve seals since he was a child, and he has been enjoying it until now. The investigator asked Bao Pan what he was doing and where he was now. Bao Pande said that his brother is studying at an art college in Guilin and will graduate next summer. These tools are indeed his brother's, and every year when he returns to Nanning during the winter and summer vacations, he will always take them out and tinker with them.
After Sui Liubao asked Ming Bao Pan which middle school in Nanning he graduated from, he immediately asked people to call to find out, and learned that Bao Pan had indeed been admitted to Guilin Art College in 1948 and is now studying there.
So, investigators Shi Genjian and Zu Lang were immediately assigned to Guilin to find Bao Pan to investigate. Bao Pan will be placed in custody first, and will be dealt with according to the circumstances after the investigation of his brother.
At this time, another external investigation of the "Wu Ji Incense Candle Shop" also had results. The police station and the neighborhood committee reported that the father and son of "Wu Ji" have always been timid and law-abiding, and they have no bad deeds or careless friends. After analyzing the results of the investigation, the command decided to rule out the suspicion that "Wu Ji" was involved in the case.
From this moment on, the command pinned its hopes on the scouts Shi Genjian and Zu Lang, hoping that their trip to Guilin would be fruitful. Soon after, Shi and Zu sent an urgent telegram from Guilin, saying that Bao Panzhi recognized that the tools belonged to him and were used by him to create woodblock prints. In addition, the Academy of Fine Arts proved that Bao had never left the school this semester, and no outsiders went to the school to look for him.
The scouts circulated the telegram and sighed.
The clue is broken!
6. Crack the case
This day was December 24, the 10th day of the "Special No. 1 Case", and there were still five days before the deadline set by Zhang Yunyi to solve the case.
At 4 o'clock in the afternoon, the headquarters held a meeting on the analysis of the case presided over by Qin Yingji. Before announcing the meeting, Qin Yingji exchanged views with Sui Liubao, and decided to release Bao Pande from liuzhi and release him home. The Bao family was very grateful to the people's government for this, and two months later, Bao Pan signed up for the army and enlisted with honor. Only two months after he went to fight in Korea, he was tragically killed in an air raid by the US army, and was posthumously regarded as a revolutionary martyr.
This was the longest case analysis meeting held by the "Special Case No. 1" Command Center since its establishment 10 days ago, and it lasted for six and a half hours from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Director Qin Yingji withdrew at 8 o'clock because he had another emergency meeting to attend. The other members of the special case command (two of whom had not yet returned from a business trip to Guilin) continued to hold meetings, and at the request of Director Qin Yingji, they reviewed the work done by each investigator in the investigation work over the past 10 days, with the aim of figuring out whether there was any deviation in the direction of the investigation, and then analyzing the case on this basis. Everyone discussed and discussed, and felt that the previously selected direction of investigation should be correct: only staring at the merchants who had the conditions to contact the letterheads and envelopes of "Nanhuaitang" to investigate.
Sui Liubao said that let's analyze it and focus the investigation on which of these six families. "Dayuan Mixing" and "Wu Ji" have been clearly understood, so there is no need to consider it, but what about the other four?
On the morning of December 25, Sui Liubao and investigators Xie Zhongtang, Wang Dapei, and Chen Baiyong went to the Zhongxing Police Station where the "Xingde Pawn" was located to learn about the business and the situation of the Zhai family. However, Lao Wang, a household registration police officer who introduced the situation, may have realized that the investigators came for the second time, and it was led by Sui Liubao, director of the Social Department of the Provincial Party Committee, guessed that there might be a situation, and he appeared cautious when he spoke. After listening to his introduction, the investigator felt that neither the "Xingde Pawn" nor the members of the Zhai family had any suspicions involved in the case, and they couldn't help but feel cold.
Sui Liubao thought about it for a while, and said Lao Wang, if you don't want to trouble you, take a few of us to the neighborhood committee to have a look, and chat casually with the comrades and residents of the neighborhood committee. Lao Wang didn't have a word, so he led the way and led the four investigators to the neighborhood committee. When he got there, Sui Liubao asked Lao Wang to stay and accompany him to have a family affair with the comrades of the neighborhood committee, and Xie Zhongtang, Wang Dapei, and Chen Baiyong went out for "free activities". Sui Liubao chatted with the comrades of the neighborhood committee, focusing on understanding the situation of the "Xingde Pawn" and the Zhai family, and chatted until noon, without any gain. At this time, Xie, Wang, and Chen came back from their visit, and Sui Liubao looked at the expressions on their faces, and it was estimated that he had nothing to gain.
So, Sui Liubao said let's go back to the city bureau, and we can catch up with the canteen meal time. However, when the group walked out of the alley where the neighborhood committee was located and came to the road, Lao Wang opened his mouth to say "goodbye" to everyone, but Sui Liubao somehow changed his mind and said that we should just find a place to have lunch here. Lao Wang, you lead us to find a small restaurant, I use the disability money to invite everyone to make a tooth sacrifice, but it's okay, there is food and food, but there is no wine, not that I am reluctant to pay more for wine, but we still have something to do in the afternoon, and we have to contact with the outside world, and it is not good to look good after drinking, and it is easy to have a bad impact.
Sui Liubao was an old Eighth Road who participated in the revolution in 1939, and spent the first two years in the combat unit, working from a soldier all the way to a company commander. During the anti-sweep, he encountered a mixed Japanese puppet army while crossing the railway, and was wounded in the battle, and there are still three pieces of shrapnel in his body. After recovering from his wounds for three months, the leaders transferred him from the combat unit to the enemy's engineering department, and from then on he began to do intelligence and security work. Later, when the disability was assessed, Sui Liubao counted it and could receive a little disability pension every month. At that time, it was all a supply system, Sui Liubao's level could eat the middle stove, and the pocket money was slightly more than that of his subordinates, and he didn't smoke, so he still had a surplus, plus a disability pension, and sometimes he was treated. However, with his professional Xi, even things that have nothing to do with work, such as inviting guests and shopping, are planned in advance, and he never says "casual" in doing things. However, today seems to be an exception, why is that?
What led to the change of Director Sui from "returning to the canteen of the city bureau" to "going down to the restaurant to entertain guests" was that he made a discovery. When he came out of the alley of the neighborhood committee to the entrance of the alley just now, he inadvertently glanced at a slogan written in chalk on the poster at the entrance of the alley, in which a few lines attracted him, "Darkness and light, just in one thought", "Confess and report, exonerate and make meritorious service." At the moment, he is a spirit, and he feels that the style of these two sentences is similar to "rebellion". He casually asked the director of the neighborhood committee who followed behind: "Who wrote this slogan?" The director told him that the poster of the neighborhood committee was in charge of Zhai Guxian, the daughter of the owner of "Xingde Pawn", and she also wrote this slogan. Because there was an extra page when the poster came out that day, I wanted to draw a picture, it took too long, she said just write a few slogans to fill it, and stood there on the spot, and did not make a draft, just wrote it out sentence by sentence while reading words in her mouth, and the onlookers next to her, including the director, praised her as a "talented girl".
Sui Liubao "chuckled" in his heart, and said secretly: This can really be described by Xin Qiji's sentence "The crowd is looking for him thousands of times, and suddenly looking back, but the person is there, and the lights are dim", although the intentions are different. "Xingde Pawn" is really suspicious, this little widow is full of suspicions! At this moment, the button in Sui Liubao's heart tied Zhai Guxian. He decided not to return to the city bureau and conducted a key investigation on Zhai Guxian in the afternoon. So, there was a decision to change your mind and pay for a meal.
When the group of five went to a small restaurant for lunch, Sui Liubao did not reveal this. After everyone had eaten, Lao Wang shook hands with Sui Liubao and was about to say goodbye, Sui Liubao said, "Let's not leave first, let's go to the institute with you to sit for a while." ”
When he arrived at the police station and sat down, Sui Liubao told him about the slogans on the poster. He had a very good memory, so he just stopped and scanned it, and even memorized those few slogans word for word. As soon as everyone heard it, they knew that these slogans were written in conjunction with the ongoing "anti-rebellion movement", and it was impossible to say that the level was not at all, but the style of its inferior limerick was exactly the same as that of the "rebellion letter". and then linked to the "Nanhuaitang" letter of the "Xingde Pawn", it formed Zhai Guxian's suspicions.
Sui Liubao then decided to come forward in the name of the police station to call the clerks of the "Xingde Pawn" to the office one by one to talk to Zhai Guxian about the situation. In order to prevent the grass from startling the snake, the police station should be put on a posture of investigating and handling criminal cases and investigating all pawnshops in the city. After the explanation, Lao Wang invited the director Rongguangzheng, and Sui Liubao communicated with him separately and formulated a plan for the purpose of not startling the snake. After the conversation, it was immediately implemented-
First of all, Director Rong took Lao Wang to the "Xingde Pawn", and said to the boss Zhai Ruoyang that he received an urgent control notice from the Municipal Bureau, requiring an investigation into the city's pawnshops, jewelry shops, antique shops, and clock shops to find out whether there had been a transaction of gold and silver jewelry, leather clothes, antique calligraphy and paintings, clocks and watches, and if so, it was necessary to notify the experts of the Municipal Bureau to go to identify; The sub-bureau must immediately send personnel to inspect and dispose of it. Boss Zhai saw that the director of the police station came to the door in person, and he thought that it must be a big case handed over by the city, so he didn't dare to slack off, in fact, the boss of the store had recently carried out any transactions, but he was afraid that Director Rong was a layman, so he said that I asked Mr. Gu, the account manager, to bring the account book to you to see, I have always been law-abiding, and there has never been a transaction of receiving stolen goods. Director Rong said that I want to read the account book, and I have to bring it back to the institute to ask someone who knows how to review it and confirm that it is correct, so that I can explain it to my superiors. In addition, the investigators sent by the city bureau will be in the office in a moment, and if they ask the clerk in the shop to talk to you to understand the situation, you will have to cooperate. Boss Zhai didn't know that the police were doing this to investigate his daughter, so he nodded.
There were a total of eight clerks in the "Xingde Pawn", and Sui Liubao didn't dare to startle the snake, so he had to go to the police station one by one to talk, and let Lao Wang stay in the pawnshop to drink tea and chat with Boss Zhai, which was actually the meaning of supervision, in case the Zhai family transferred or destroyed the evidence. The scout took turns talking with the eight clerks and got an important clue!
When Sui Liubao talked to Mr. Gu, the bookkeeper, he asked the other party to recall whether Zhai Guxian had behaved abnormally or abnormally compared to usual in the recent period. Mr. Gu said a little that Zhai Guxian suddenly practiced calligraphy after the National Day, bought several posts saying that he wanted to copy, and two days later came to him to ask for some slogans or calligraphy for him to copy. What is written? It is nothing more than "confess leniently, resist strictly, make meritorious service and redeem crimes, and receive awards for great meritorious service," "Long live the Communist Party," "Long live the People's Republic of China," "It is not advisable to sleep in the open in autumn," "Down with the leaders of the counterrevolution," and so on. When Sui Liubao heard this, he was immediately excited, didn't every one of these calligraphy pieces contain one or several characters from the "anti-confession"? Could it be that the font of the "anti-anti-letter" version was selected by Zhai Guxian from Mr. Gu's calligraphy? At that moment, Sui Liubao said, Mr. Gu, you have reflected an important situation, please follow me to the city bureau. Mr. Gu was taken aback, and his face showed fear. Sui Liubao comforted and said, I promise you'll be fine.
When he arrived at the city bureau, Sui Liubao took out a "letter of rebellion" from the case file and showed it to Mr. Gu, who almost fainted with fright after just one glance -- isn't this Mr. Gu's handwriting? Sui Liubao told him not to be nervous, saying that this is indeed your handwriting, but the letter is not from you. Well, I'll read a few words, and you write them in the same font and size as on this reactionary letter. At that moment, he casually read out the ten words "Yi", "Country", "Gold", "Reward", "Lost", "Return", "Horse", "Dark", "Bright" and "Total", and Mr. Gu wrote them down one by one. Then, he summoned an officer from the secretarial department and asked him to accompany Mr. Gu back to the pawnshop, and Mr. Guan took care of Mr. Guan no matter what happened, he would not leave, and if there was any inconvenience, he could tell Lao Wang who stayed there at any time.
Sui Liubao immediately reported to Director Qin Yingji, who looked at the handwriting written by Mr. Gu and said that it was indeed very similar to the handwriting of "rebellion letter", and immediately notified the provincial department to identify it. At that time, even the provincial department did not have professional handwriting appraisers, so the Department of Culture invited several famous names in the calligraphy industry in Nanning City to conduct an appraisal, and unanimously determined that Mr. Gu's handwriting was completely consistent with the "rebellion letter".
Qin Ying heard the news and immediately ordered: Arrest Zhai Guxian!
On this day, Zhai Guxian went to a relative's house with his mother. The investigators, fearing that the leak had caused him to abscond, immediately went to his relative's house, but only his mother was there, and when he asked, he said that he had gone to the park with two girls from his relatives' neighborhood. When the scouts found her in the park, it was five o'clock in the afternoon, and the closing bell rang.
After Zhai Guxian arrived at the case, he first pretended to be innocent, crying and shouting "wronged", and then played silence, no matter what he said to her, he was silent. Sui Liubao and several investigators patiently explained the policy to her repeatedly, and did not open their mouths until 10 o'clock in the evening, and explained the whole process of planning and implementing the "Special Case No. 1" as follows-
Things have to start with the relationship between Zhai Guxian and Ye Gaoyu's classmates. Zhai and Ye are three years apart, and they are classmates before and after Nanning No. 2 Normal School. According to the school's rules, when the first year students enter the school, the second and third year students have to do the orientation work. At that time, although it was an old society, there was no "management" for male and female students at the university, and there was no aunt guarding the door in the dormitory, and similarly, there was no defense for men and women when welcoming new students. At that time, Ye Gaoyu happened to be greeted by Zhai Guxian, and the two met in this way. After getting acquainted, there was no spark, and after the orientation, the two went their separate ways, and it was rare to meet in school, and it was just a nod to say hello.
Zhai Guxian and Ye Gaoyu remet on the eve of New Year's Day in 1950. At that time, the school held an alumni reunion. This is a relatively rich event, not only a dinner, but also a singing and dancing party. Zhai Guxian is an energetic activist who non-stop invites male alumni to dance. When she invited Ye Gaoyu, she was rejected because Ye Gaoyu couldn't dance. At the beginning, Ye Gaoyu didn't recognize each other, and when he was about to leave, he suddenly recognized that the person who had just invited him to dance was the "welcome messenger" when he was in school, so the two of them stopped dancing, and sat aside and chatted until the end of the event.
In this way, Zhai Guxian and Ye Gaoyu began to communicate. After the Spring Festival in 1950, Ye Gaoyu invited Zhai Guxian to his account room in the backyard of the "Zhiyun Teahouse". Zhai Guxian liked the secluded place after visiting it once, and he always went there four or five nights a week. In order to facilitate Zhai Guxian's entry and exit, Ye Gaoyu gave her a back door key. Ye Gaoyu placed a 17-lamp radio imported from the United States there, and in addition to chatting, the two often enjoyed music, and gradually switched from listening to foreign music to listening to "Voice of America," "BBC," "Rose Spring" (operated by the US military stationed in Japan), and Taiwan, Saigon, Hong Kong, and other broadcasts to China that were called "enemy stations" at that time. After listening to it for a while, the two had the idea of defecting to the "free world".
In early August, the two of them received a notice broadcast by radio stations in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Saigon, which said that Taiwan's "Mainland Affairs Committee" had set up a secret "land and water reception station for mainland compatriots" in Vietnam, on the border between Fangcheng in Guangxi Province, China, and Vietnam, and that the reception station would send armed forces day and night to "respond to the mainland's compatriots who have defected to the free world" As long as the mainland compatriots arrive at the border or at sea, they will be supported by the personnel who will receive them, and they will arrive safely in a foreign country, and then they will be transferred to Hong Kong and finally Taiwan. If you do not want to go to Taiwan after leaving the country, you can choose the destination you want to go to at will, and the "Mainland Work Committee" will guarantee to provide funds to deliver the defectors safely. Zhai Guxian and Ye Gaoyu couldn't help but be moved when they heard this, and discussed crossing the border to Taiwan.
Ye Gaoyu considered a problem - if he ran to the past recklessly, he would not have any merit, and he was afraid that he would be looked down upon by others, so he should make a contribution here as a gift of going to the past. Don't look at Zhai Guxian as a female streamer, but she is a martial arts fan, she has been reading martial arts novels since she was a teenager, and she has been fascinated by it for more than ten years. According to the information given to her by martial arts novels, she thought that Ye Gaoyu's idea was not unreasonable, so the two secretly discussed what kind of credit should be established. After thinking about it, the best thing to think about is to create an assassination campaign against the leaders of the party, government, and military of the Chinese Communist Party, and the second is to explode munitions warehouses or army barracks and party and government organs, but this is all utopian, and they simply do not have this kind of energy. Therefore, in combination with his own strengths, he thought of engaging in "literature" and posting reactionary slogans. But if you think about it carefully, it is not appropriate, the slogan is not safe, it is easy to be discovered, and the slogan has not been posted a few times, and the person has already taken it down, and the gain outweighs the loss. After further discussion, Ye Gaoyu finally thought of sending a "letter of rebellion" to all the members of the Guangxi Provincial Government - the reason why he only chose the provincial government and ignored the Guangxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China was because the party organization team at that time was not announced to the public, so they did not know which members of the provincial party committee consisted of.
With their minds decided, the two began to think about how to implement it. Zhai Guxian proposed that there should be a hall name like in martial arts novels. Regarding his girlfriend's idea, Ye Gaoyu said that he disagreed, thinking that it had no practical meaning and was easy to expose. However, Zhai Guxian, who was born in a capitalist family, is usually used to playing the role of the eldest lady, and suffers from a serious "princess disease", and only others revolve around her when she interacts with others, and there is no time for herself to follow others. This woman's brain was very active, and she immediately found a reason to refute it, saying that this was originally for meritorious service, and if she didn't make some noise, would people take us seriously when she got there? Therefore, not only did she have to give a name to the hall, but she also had to print special letterheads and envelopes. Ye Gaoyu thought about it and seemed reasonable, so he agreed.
Then, it's time to get the name of the church. In this regard, Ye Gaoyu, who has never read martial arts novels, does not have this awareness, and Zhai Guxian has this awareness, but he lacks talent and can't think of it. The next day, when the pawnshop was sorting out the letters and files that her father asked her to manage, she accidentally saw the letter sent to the pawnshop by Cuigu'an with the letterhead and envelope of "Nanhuai Hall". So she pretended to be curious and took a dozen or so time-honored letters, including the "Nanhuai Tang" letter, to ask her grandfather Zhai Huaixin for advice, whether these time-honored brands still exist now, the old man made it clear one by one, so she learned that the "Nanhuai Hall" had been closed as early as the former Qing Dynasty. In this way, the payment for the "rebellion letter" was decided.
That night, Zhai Guxian went to tell Ye Gaoyu, and Ye Gaoyu agreed to use this hall name. Next, it's time to make letterheads and envelopes. In this regard, Zhai Guxian has some understanding, because in the old days, pawnshops had the tradition of making woodcut antique stamps in order to sell items at a high price. When the court is operating, Zhai Guxian often goes to the side to join in the fun, and sometimes he makes it by himself. Therefore, she thought that as long as she had a plate, she could print letterheads and envelopes from the antique old paper in the pawnshop's warehouse. So, who should be asked to engrave the plate? Zhai Guxian thought of Wei Yulin, a famous engraving master who used to be in contact with pawnshops, but for confidentiality reasons, it was inconvenient for her to go to Wei Yulin, so she asked Ye Gaoyu to come forward. Ye Gaoyu agreed, but he didn't come forward, but asked his cousin to find Wei Yulin.
After the problem of forging the letterhead and envelope of "Nanhuaitang" was solved, the content of the "rebellion letter" was followed, and it was Zhai Guxian who "created" a limerick poem, Ye Gaoyu did not have the ability to do so, and he just applauded after reading it. Zhai Guxian said okay, and the next is the engraving. Ye Gaoyu was shocked when he heard this, and said, Why do you want to engrave the plate again? This kind of content, isn't it immediately exposed? Zhai Guxian has already seen the idea, and said I read the plate engraved by the woodcarver Master Wei, and I feel that there seems to be nothing, isn't it just to cut off the excess wood with a knife and leave the font? However, the words on it have to look like a little bit, and they can't make people laugh, because this version will be taken out of the country as a proof of our meritorious service. I can find it in the copy.
However, Zhai Guxian went to the bookstore to buy all kinds of copybooks, and after rummaging through them, he couldn't find any words that could fill the content of the "rebellion letter", and he couldn't use different fonts. After thinking about it, I finally had to ask Mr. Gu to write some slogans and other phrases embedded in the text of "anti-letter" in the name of Xi calligraphy. After Zhai Guxian selected the text needed for the "rebellion letter", he first traced it with red paper, rubbed it on the wooden board used by the pawnshop to make the antique stamp plate found in the warehouse, and tried to carve a piece of it, and printed it to see if it was still presentable. At the moment, my confidence was greatly increased, and I carefully carved a formal plate, and this problem was solved.
The next is to mail, Zhai Guxian asked Ye Gaoyu to implement it. Out of prudence, Ye Gaoyu went to several post offices and consignment stores, and collected 35 stamps with a face value of 400 yuan. Thinking that he could not leave his own handwriting when writing the name of the envelope, he again troubled his cousin and asked him to go to the post office and ask the old gentleman who wrote the letter on his behalf to write thirty-five envelopes.
Later, the command captured Ye Gaoyu by tracking down Tao Xiaorui. Ye Gaoyu did not return to his own house in Wujing Lane after escaping, but went to the account room in the backyard of the "Zhiyun Teahouse", where he wrote a desperate letter to Zhai Guxian, informing him that the matter had been leaked, in order to save her, he decided to commit suicide, in order to avoid the police from finding the pawnshop when they were chasing him around, he decided to go to Wujing Lane in front of his house to throw himself into the well. Then, Ye Gaoyu threw the desperate letter into the mailbox on the side of the road on the way from the teahouse to Wujing Lane. The unstamped letter was sent to the "Xingde Pawn" in the form of "arrears", and Mr. Gu paid 400 yuan to get it. However, Mr. Gu did not talk about this matter when he talked to the investigators, not because he deliberately shielded Zhai Guxian, but because he did not have the awareness of this, so he forgot about it. After Zhai Guxian received the letter, he immediately burned it with the woodblock of the letter.
At this point, the truth of the "Special No. 1 Case" has finally been revealed. The investigator asked Zhai Guxian to sign the transcript and write down the time: 1:22 a.m. on December 26, 1950. At this time, there were still four days before the deadline specified by Zhang Yunyi to solve the case.
At that time, it was the beginning of the "anti-rebellion movement", and the case was handled very quickly, and only a little more than a month later, on February 4, 1951, the day of the Chinese New Year's Eve, Zhai Guxian was sentenced to death at a public trial meeting held by the Municipal Military Management Committee, and was immediately executed. Tao Xiaorui and Wei Yulin were also sentenced to seven years in prison. Half a year later, Wei Yulin was sentenced to eight years in prison for traitor by the Military Management Commission for historical issues, and died of illness on a labor camp in 1961.
