Recently, the Xuhui police successfully cracked a copper wire theft case in the "Sharpening Sword 2023" operation, and the suspect Wei was taken criminal coercive measures in accordance with the law on suspicion of theft.
On the evening of December 5, two security guards patrolled Yunjin Road and spotted a suspicious man walking back and forth in the nearby reeds and found multiple bundles of brown copper wire hidden in the reeds, so they immediately reported the case to the West Bank Public Security Police Station of the Xuhui Public Security Bureau. After receiving the report, the police immediately arrived at the scene and interrogated the suspicious man on the spot. The man looked panicked when questioned by the police, first saying that he did not know about the copper wire that was found, and then saying that he had picked it up on the road. Faced with the man who did not have a preface, the police immediately took him to the police station for further investigation.
The police checked the public video of the road at the scene and found that the man rode a battery car along Longteng Avenue to Linjiang Road, and then disappeared into the picture. The police immediately rushed to the scene and searched and found that there were three electric boxes in the depths of the green belt, the internal cables had been artificially cut, and many black insulation layers were scattered around, and the copper wires inside were missing, with a total value of more than 20,000 yuan. After investigation, the three electrical boxes belonged to the nearby factory and were used as emergency power supplies. Faced with conclusive physical evidence, the man finally confessed to his theft.
According to the criminal suspect Wei, one night two weeks ago, when he was walking along the riverside, he found three rusty electric boxes here, so he pushed the iron chain that tied the electric box to the top and found that the electric box door could be opened smoothly. Suddenly, Wei became greedy, and even immediately found a "next home", and the next day he bought tools such as a voltage tester, utility knife, cable scissors, etc., ready to "do a big job". In order to hide the nearly 300 catties of copper wire that was stolen, Wei divided it into multiple bundles and tied them, and transported them to the reeds near Yunjin Road with a battery car. Who expected that "being smart was mistaken by being smart" and was arrested.
At present, the criminal suspect Wei has been taken criminal compulsory measures by the Xuhui police in accordance with the law on suspicion of theft, and the case is still under further investigation.
