The annual salary of the top AI companies in the United States is exposed!
OpenAI's 6 million tops the list, and Microsoft and Nvidia are only half of OpenAI.
Recently, Rora, a company in the United States that helps doctoral students negotiate salaries, released a salary report, announcing the average salary offered by these top AI companies to researchers.
Let's take a look at some of the top AI companies and the average salaries they pay researchers.
OpenAI
As the hottest and most successful AI startup in 2023, OpenAI tops the list in terms of salary.
OpenAI offered researchers a sky-high annual salary of $865,000, equivalent to about 6 million yuan. This annual salary includes an initial salary of $665,000 and a negotiated 30% salary increase.
Interestingly, OpenAI's leadership doesn't seem to be paid as much as researchers.
- OpenAI CEO Sam Altman 年 有73546 元。
- Co-founder and president Greg Brockman earns $113727 per year;
- Co-founder and Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever earns $334572 per year.
Anthropic
Anthropic, the creator of the Claude 2 model, is probably OpenAI's biggest competitor and was founded by former OpenAI researchers Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei.
Anthropic also pays its researchers handsomely, ranking second on the list with an annual salary of $855,000.
Interestingly, during the previous OpenAI infighting, OpenAI's board members allegedly entered into possible negotiations with Dario Amodei to make him the company's CEO, but he refused.
Inflection
As the creator of Pi, the friendliest and most personalized chatbot, Inflection also pays well. Although the initial compensation is unknown, Inflection pays its engineers an average of $825,000 per year.
Founded by former DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman and renowned investor Steve Ballmer, Inflection has a small team of 35 researchers and is currently valued at $4 billion.
tesla
Tesla, founded by Elon Musk, may have provided a lot of resources for xAI (the company behind Grok). Tesla pays its researchers $780,000 a year.
Amazon
If you look at this, you'll find that the top AI startups in the U.S. are paid more than all the tech giants pay.
Amazon is the highest-paid tech giant of all, with an annual salary of $719,000.
Google Brain和DeepMind
Two research companies under Google's parent company, Alphabet, pay their researchers differently. Google Brain, although merged with DeepMind, offered an annual salary of $695,000.
Google Research gives an annual salary of $549,000, of which a whopping 77% is paid by salary increases.
On the other hand, after the merger with Google Brain, DeepMind, the "brain" behind the recent Gemini model, paid its researchers $515,000 a year, with an initial compensation of $452,000, a 13% salary increase.
Meta AI
Meta AI, formerly known as FAIR, focuses on artificial intelligence research, and this year Meta AI led the open source of the LLama series of models, making great contributions to the open source community.
Meta AI offered $556,000 in compensation.
apple
Apple's pay is almost half that of OpenAI, which is surprising considering the difference in valuations between the two companies. Apple's initial compensation was $337,000 and it paid its researchers $450,000 a year, a 33 percent increase.

Microsoft Research
Microsoft Research's annual salary is almost the same as Apple's, but only half of that of OpenAI, which it finances. While it offered an initial compensation of $270,000 and a whopping 66% salary increase, the final compensation was only $449,000.
This may be one reason why OpenAI researchers didn't actually want to go to Microsoft when the OpenAI coup happened.
Nvidia
As the biggest winner of the AI race, Nvidia will achieve a $1 trillion valuation, all thanks to betting on AI graphics cards. Nvidia paid researchers a total of $390,000.
IBM Research
IBM Research, which seeks a balance between quantum computing and artificial intelligence, pays its researchers $377,000 in annual compensation, on par with Nvidia's salary.
Hugging Face
Last on the list of salaries is the champion of the open source track - Hugging Face. Hugging Face pays its researchers $238,000 a year.
Finally, after learning about the compensation packages of the top AI companies in the United States, have you re-evaluated your dream company?
