TUDOR has selected a new Black Bay watch for the festive season – a rich burgundy that will add color to the winter season

TUDOR presents the new Black Bay watch, which combines advanced watchmaking technology with a new aesthetic with the classic burgundy bezel, reimagining the brand's signature diver's watch. The latest addition to the Black Bay collection incorporates a number of optimised design elements, including a "T-fit" buckle and is certified as a Master Chronometer by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).

The first Black Bay watch with a burgundy bezel was launched in 2012 and returned in 2015 with an original TUDOR movement. Now, this iconic Black Bay collection has ushered in its third reinvention. Combining state-of-the-art watchmaking technology with a new aesthetic, the new Black Bay is an avant-garde expression that celebrates the mastery of TUDOR watches. It is well known that the continuous refinement of chronometry and anti-magnetic properties is one of the highest standards in the watchmaking industry. For nearly 70 years, TUDOR has been committed to creating more professional and reliable diver's watches. Inspired by the classics and combined with cutting-edge watchmaking technology, the Black Bay watch has been officially certified by the Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) in Switzerland.

TUDOR quality

The TUDOR Black Bay collection is committed to excellence and perfection. Now, another Black Bay watch has been certified as a Maestro Chronometer. This is the third time that TUDOR has received this certification, and it is one step closer to the goal of achieving this certification for the entire collection. It required a number of changes to the regular TUDOR Manufacture movement, which meant that TUDOR was not afraid of any trial. This certification by an independent authority is yet another testament to the excellence of TUDOR watches.

Full certification by an independent body ensures that high standards are met

The Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) Master Chronometer certification is a comprehensive and comprehensive certification that examines a watch's important features, including accuracy, magnetic resistance, water resistance and power reserve. The certification requirements are particularly stringent, with accuracy being a top priority. The certification requires that the average daily error of a watch must not exceed 5 seconds (0 +5), which is 5 seconds less than the COSC standard for the average daily error of a single movement (-4 +6) and 1 second less than the TUDOR standard for the brand's original movements (-2 +4). The certification also requires that the watch be accurate in the presence of a high magnetic field of 15,000 gauss. In addition, the water resistance and power reserve of each Maestro Chronometer certified watch must comply with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 22810:2010 standard. In order to obtain this certification, a watch must meet two prerequisites: that the watch is made in Switzerland and that it complies with Swiss manufacturing standards, and that the movement must be chronometer-certified (COSC).

Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology accreditation standards and tests

The TUDOR Black Bay has successfully obtained the Maestro Chronometer certification, which is based on the premise and rigorous testing it has undergone as follows:

- Made in Switzerland

- Swiss Official Chronometer Certification (COSC)

-With two temperature zones, six directions and two different power reserves of 100% and 33%, the watch is always accurate

-Resistant to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss, the watch always runs smoothly and accurately

- The watch is water-resistant to 200 meters (660 feet) and is water-resistant to ISO 22810:2010

-70-hour power reserve

Manufacture calibre MT5602-U

The Black Bay is powered by the TUDOR Manufacture calibre MT5602-U, which displays the hours, minutes and seconds. It has the typical look and feel of an original TUDOR movement, but with a sunburst design and the words "Master Chronometer" engraved on the bridge. The one-piece skeletonized tungsten rotor is decorated with a unique laser engraving and sandblasted detailing. The bridges and main plates are alternated with polished and sandblasted finishes and laser-finished.

The balance wheel with fine inertia is held on both sides by a sturdy transverse plate for stability and precision, and is equipped with a non-magnetic silicon balance spring. After the watch was assembled, it was tested and the Manufacture calibre MT5602-U had an error of less than 5 seconds (0+5).

Another distinctive feature of the Manufacture calibre MT5602-U is its 70-hour power reserve, certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), which makes the wearer "weekend worry-free". In other words, if you take off your watch on Friday night, you can use it on Monday morning just by putting it on your wrist and you don't have to rewind it. Give it "working hours" and give "breaks" back to yourself.

Classic look

Not only recognizable but also easily recognizable, the Black Bay with its burgundy bezel is a masterpiece of TUDOR. The new Black Bay retains the classic 41 mm diameter case design of the "original", but with a slimmer overall shape. The unidirectional rotating bezel side is easy to grip, and the numerals on the bezel are subtly curved to maintain unity with the bezel contour. In addition, the new model reveals new ideas in numerous aesthetic details. The lollipop-shaped seconds hand is inspired by the look of the brand's early diver's watches, while the brushed black dial shines in direct light. The crown is ergonomically reinvented and flush with the middle case, with the crown shaft concealed, reminiscent of the crown curve found on the brand's classic technical watches.

Steel strap or rubber strap, both equipped with a "T-fit" buckle

The new Black Bay is available with an all-over brushed three-link steel strap or a burnished and brushed oval five-link steel strap, both with a TUDOR "T-fit" buckle for quick length adjustment. The device features five holes for quick and fine adjustment without the use of tools, and an 8 mm adjustment on the buckle is particularly convenient. The fastener is made of ceramic ball bearings, which allows for flexible operation and ensures that the fastener can be fastened smoothly and securely.

The watch is also available on a black rubber strap and is available in three sizes, all with a TUDOR "T-fit" buckle. The strap is precisely tailored to the width of the wearer's wrist to ensure a good wearing experience. The iconic snowflake motif on the inside of the strap is originally created for the Black Bay 54 and also enhances the grip.

The essence of the Black Bay type

Inspired by the classic aesthetic of the 1950s TUDOR diver's watches, the Black Bay collection incorporates the angular hands known to collectors as "snowflakes" in the dial design. Models with such characteristic hands appeared in the brand's catalogue in 1969. The unprotected winding crown and the distinctive case features are reminiscent of the first generation of TUDOR divers' watches.

The Black Bay collection is a perfect blend of the House's traditional aesthetic and contemporary watchmaking techniques. It is not simply a replica of a classic, but a reflection of the essence of more than 60 years of making diver's watches at TUDOR Watchmaking, while remaining rooted in the present and reflecting the trends of the times. Although the design concept embodies a neo-retro spirit, it follows the stricter requirements of modern watchmaking in terms of craftsmanship, reliable performance, robustness and finishing.

TUDOR watchmaking centre

Every TUDOR watch, including the Black Bay collection, is assembled and thoroughly tested in accordance with the brand's standards of excellence at its new TUDOR manufactory centre in Le Locle, Switzerland. Completed and put into use in 2021 after three years of construction, the centre brings together cutting-edge watchmaking know-how with efficient production management and automated testing systems. Its façade, known in striking "TUDOR Red", covers four floors with a total area of 5,500 square metres and complements the neighbouring Kenissi watchmaking centre. Founded in 2016, the Conex Watchmaking Centre is dedicated to the production of TUDOR movements. Based on the Conex Manufacture Center and other in-house operations of the brand, TUDOR has successfully integrated the development and production capabilities of high-performance mechanical movements. At this point, TUDOR has full control over the production of its core components and guarantees consistent quality.
