In Apple's official introduction document, the wireless charging of iPhone 15 series phones is introduced in detail: iPhone 15 series phones can support the Qi2 wireless charging standard. On 12.12, Apple released the official version of iOS 17.2, which also enhanced the operation button and camera experience, and third-party wireless charging products with Qi2 certification can also bring iPhone 15 phone users a 15W wireless fast charging experience comparable to MagSafe.
Qi2 wireless charging
Qi2 is a new enhanced wireless charging standard developed by the WPC Wireless Power Alliance in 2023.
It incorporates Apple's MPP (Magnetic Power Profile) technology to provide a better wireless charging user experience and pave the way for the development of new features and enhancements in the future. Previously, the charging head network has disassembled and analyzed a number of products with Qi2 certification, including two types of products, flat and vertical, all of which have fast charging modules that support QC/PD protocol, which can well meet the specifications of Qi2 MPP.
Wireless charger
The overall shell of the GQ22 wireless charging module is made of alloy, and the front magnetic area is an off-white skin-friendly material, which feels delicate.
The back of the wireless charging module is a semi-open design, with a metal soldering pin pin in the black area below, and this sample has a positive and negative soldering wire extension.
The diameter of the GQ22 wireless charging module is about 58.69mm.
The thickness of the GQ22 wireless charging module is about 8.39mm.
The GQ22 wireless charging module weighs about 56.6g.
The GQ22 wireless charging module is placed in the palm of an adult man's hand, which can be held with one hand, which is slightly larger than the original module.
Wireless charging test
When charging the iPhone 15 Plus, the GQ22 wireless charging module has the same UI animation as the original MagSafe charger.
At the same time, the no-load power consumption of the GQ22 wireless charging module is about 0.25W after power-on.
The charger tested the iPhone 15 mobile phone for magnetic charging, and the measured power of the charger cable end was 8.8V 2.11A 18.61W.
The charger tested the iPhone 15 Plus mobile phone for magnetic charging, and the measured power at the wire end of the charger was 8.83V 1.82A 16.11W.
The charger performed a magnetic charging test on the iPhone 15 Pro mobile phone, and the measured power of the charger at the wire end was 8.8V 2.12A 18.68W.
The charger tested the iPhone 15 Pro Max for magnetic charging, and the measured power at the wire end of the charger was 8.8V 2.14A 18.82W.
Similarly, when the iPhone 15 is equipped with an original/"MFM" certified wireless charger, the charger output power can reach 9.02V 2.1A 18.91W. It can be understood that there is no significant difference between the two wireless chargers in terms of physical compatibility and charging power.
Charging is tested throughout the process
The GQ22 wireless charging module and iPhone 15 were placed in a 25°C incubator and connected to the power supply, and the test results are as follows.
After the power is turned on, the handshake 9V voltage, the power is stable at about 19W for the first 9 minutes, then the power drops to about 15W and continues to charge until the 16th minute, then the power drops to about 12W and continues to charge until the 44th minute, then the power drops to 7W and immediately rises to about 13W and continues to charge until the 06th minute, then the power drops to about 7.5W and continues to charge until the 1st hour and 32 minutes, and then the power continues to drop into trickle charging mode until the phone is fully charged, and the charging process takes about 2 hours and 10 minutes.
Drawing a line chart, it can be seen that the GQ22 wireless charging module takes 44 minutes to charge the iPhone 15 to 50%, 1 hour and 17 minutes to charge to 80%, and about 2 hours and 10 minutes to charge to 100%.
Temperature test
The charger is a conversion device, and there will be loss during the charging process, which will be dissipated in the form of heat, so the charger will heat up. Charge iPhone 15 with the GQ22 wireless charging module and place it in an incubator at 25°C for one hour to collect the temperature on the charger surface.
Captured with a thermal imager, the GQ22 wireless charging module charged the iPhone 15 with a maximum temperature of 43.3°C. At this time, the power is about 12W, the module is a semi-finished product without the rest of the heat dissipation device, and this temperature performance is a normal phenomenon.
Summary of the charging head network
Based on this test, the iPhone 15 series mobile phones, as officially introduced, do not have "MFM" certification for products that support Qi2 wireless charging, but their wireless charging power can be equivalent to the experience of the original MagSafe charger, and the total time consumption of the iPhone 15 mobile phone is not much different from the original charger.
This time, with Apple's opening of MPP functions, wireless charging products such as the GQ22 wireless charging module, the maximum temperature is only 43.3°C under the semi-open design, which has more customizability and can adapt to the production needs of various manufacturers.
