In 2018, the mother of the martyr Bao Shuangquan fell ill and was hospitalized, and the surviving comrades-in-arms of Bao Shuangquan learned the news and made an appointment to visit together.
However, what they didn't expect was that in the 32 years since Bao Shuangquan died, his old mother would live so lonely.
Bao Shuangquan died in the battle for the 425 heights, one of the 88 commandos, and of the 88 commandos, only 8 of them left the position.
In the course of the battle of the two mountains, the combat effectiveness of our army was much higher than that of the Vietnamese army, so why did there be such heavy casualties?
Why were the soldiers surprised by the plight of Bao Shuangquan's mother?
1.7 Panthers attack
Bao Shuangquan is all Tibetan, but he loves his motherland, and he was very indignant when he heard that the Vietnamese authorities were constantly provoking China.
In 1985, when he had just turned 21, he joined the army and wanted to make contributions to the people of the motherland.
He was born in Gansu, so the army he joined was subordinate to the Lanzhou Military Region, and the number was 417 Regiment, 2 Battalion and 4 Company.
The Lanzhou Military Region is in the north, and it stands to reason that it is impossible to go to the Sino-Vietnamese border to fight.
However, since the round of the battle between the two mountains, the central authorities have decided to take advantage of this opportunity to transfer the troops of various military regions to the front line in turn to enhance the combat strength of the army with real combat experience.
From April 1986 to April 1987, this year, it was the turn of the Lanzhou Military Region to fight on the front line.
The 47th Army of the Lanzhou Military Region is the main force of operations, and Bao Shuangquan's team belongs to the 47th Army.
Therefore, less than a year after joining the army, Bao Shuangquan waited for the opportunity to make contributions.
Before leaving, he wrote a letter to his mother, telling his mother: "Don't worry about me, when I finish the battle and get the merit medal, I will come back to see you." ”
After the letter was sent, he set out on his journey without looking back.
Although it is said that the Laoshan battlefield is a small-scale battle, this is for large-scale wars.
For soldiers, no matter how small the battle is, it is also a game with death, which is also very fierce and dangerous.
As soon as Bao Shuangquan arrived at the front line, he entered a tense battle for position.
At that time, the 111 heights defended by our army were constantly harassed by the enemy.
Bao Shuangquan held on to the No. 1 post and repelled more than 20 enemy attacks.
In this defensive battle, he shot four enemies, and gradually grew from the panic when he first entered the position to a determined and cold warrior.
He was reluctant to kill anyone, but he would not hesitate to pull the trigger if the territory of his homeland was violated.
At the same time, he was also ready to sacrifice his life to defend the territory of the motherland.
After the defensive battle, before he had time to reward his merits, Bao Shuangquan ushered in a new task - to capture the 425 heights, that is, the 1.7 battle plan.
At the end of 1986, the Vietnamese government had a new leader, and we saw this as a good opportunity to ease relations between the two sides.
So, I wanted to see if the Vietnamese side had any intention of taking the initiative to improve.
As a result, we were very disappointed that the new Vietnamese government still had no intention of withdrawing its troops, even though the Vietnamese army suffered heavy losses on the front line.
In this case, it is necessary to give the new government of Vietnam a New Year's greeting gift.
Our side has set its sights on the 425 Heights, which is a strategic location, and if we can take it, the Vietnamese side will definitely be shaken.
In fact, not long ago, the Jinan Military Region, which was succeeded by the Lanzhou Military Region, briefly occupied the 425 Heights.
It is a pity that the Vietnamese side tried their best to take it back.
The Vietnamese army paid a great price, but it still had to recapture this high ground, which shows that it attaches great importance to it.
Well, there is no better gift to Vietnam than to capture this height.
The battle plan has been determined, our side will launch an offensive on January 7, 1987, and the offensive task is falling on the 4th Company where Bao Shuangquan is located.
The operation was codenamed Black Panther Assault, and the intention was obvious, that is, to fight quickly and annihilate the enemy on the position, and then retreat in time.
White lies
We do not necessarily have to occupy this position permanently, we only need to completely annihilate the defending enemy and repel the enemy's reinforcements, so as to achieve the goal of deterring Vietnam.
But despite this, we can still expect that this is a tough battle.
In order to minimize casualties and prevent a strong attack, the 4th Company made the following deployment arrangements after finding out the situation of the enemy and us.
First of all, it is necessary to send a reconnaissance team to lurk around the enemy's position, observe the enemy's movements at all times, and report the results to the company at any time.
If there is no change in the enemy's position, the attack will be carried out according to the original plan, and if the situation changes, the plan will be re-planned.
Secondly, it is necessary to form multiple assault teams and attack and advance in batches.
There were heavy casualties among the commandos in front, and the commandos in the rear hurriedly made up for it.
In the end, 88 commandos were selected from the 4th Company, and Bao Shuangquan was among them.
At the time of the selection, Bao Shuangquan was very nervous, because he was an only child, and his mother was only one son.
In this case, the company commander may not agree to let him go up.
However, Bao Shuangquan's desire to serve the motherland was very strong, so he lied about his family situation.
Bao Shuangquan patted his chest and said to the company commander: "I still have a brother at home, even if I am glorious, my mother will have someone to take care of, so let me go!"
The company commander looked at this young soldier and couldn't help but admire his spirit of devotion to the country.
The company commander patted Bao Shuangquan on the shoulder, nodded and said, "Okay, then let's be assigned to the second commando!"
Bao Shuangquan bargained with the company commander: "Let me go to the first commando, I'll take the lead!"
But the company commander shook his head this time and said, "No, it's the second commando, or you will stay in the rear!"
Bao Shuangquan was in a hurry, and hurriedly said: "Okay, the second is the second!"
The company commander then glanced at him with deep eyes and said: "The battle must be fought beautifully, but you must also pay attention to safety, don't always think about sacrifice, you are still young, and there are still many opportunities to serve the country in the future." ”
Bao Shuangquan smiled embarrassedly, saluted the company commander, and replied firmly: "Yes!"
At 6:55 a.m. on January 7, Bao Shuangquan and his comrades from the Second Commando were waiting for the order to attack.
Suddenly, two artillery shots were heard from the direction of the Vietnamese positions.
Bao Shuangquan was shocked, but soon calmed down, he knew that this was a temptation by the Vietnamese army, in order to prevent our army from sneaking attack.
At two o'clock in the morning, the reconnaissance team, which had been lurking in the vicinity of the Vietnamese army position for 24 hours, conveyed a signal of safety, which showed that the Vietnamese army did not anticipate the movement of our troops.
Therefore, the assault team began to approach the 425 heights in batches, and by 5 minutes before the attack, the first commando team had reached the designated position.
But what Bao Shuangquan didn't know was that the Vietnamese army tentatively opened fire, although blindly, but unfortunately hit two fighters of our first commando team.
However, it is surprising that even after hitting our fighters, the Vietnamese army did not detect the movement of our troops.
Extremely tragic battles
The Vietnamese artillery shells came, the soldier Xi Wenhua died on the spot, and Dong Yongan was seriously injured.
At this time, he was very close to the position of the Vietnamese army, and if he made a little noise, or made any big moves, he would be noticed by the Vietnamese army.
In order not to disrupt this offensive operation, he held back the pain, remained silent, and remained motionless.
Dong Yongan was afraid that his reason would not be able to defeat his instinct, so he stuffed the glorious bullet in his mouth, so that he could not make a sound no matter what.
With less than five minutes left to attack, you have to hold on.
Five minutes later, the assault team quickly broke into the enemy position and took the enemy by surprise.
And Dong Yongan has missed the best rescue opportunity, and died heroically, from the time he was hit by a shell to the sacrifice of his life, the posture of his body has not changed.
The comrades-in-arms watched Dong Yongan bleed to death, but they couldn't save him, and they all poured their anger on the Vietnamese army.
The warrior Ma Zhanfu took the lead in killing a bloody road, and the enemy's firepower was instantly concentrated on him, and Ma Zhanfu was soon hit by several bullets.
He stuffed the intestines that had already flowed back into his stomach, wrapped them in gauze, and did not choose to retreat to heal his wounds, but instead picked up the blaster and tried to blow up the enemy's firepower.
After he stuffed the blaster into the firing point, the enemy threw it again.
Seeing that the situation was very critical, he thought of the scene in the movie "Shangganling".
So, he imitated Huang Jiguang of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, re-stuffed the blaster into the machine gun hole, and then blocked the machine gun hole with his own body.
Only a "boom" was heard, the enemy's firepower was wiped out, and Ma Zhanfu also died heroically.
Bao Shuangquan and his comrades-in-arms also rushed to the position to clear the remnants of the Vietnamese army.
With the heroic efforts of the commandos, the position was quickly occupied by our side.
In order to deal with the enemy's counterattack, Bao Shuangquan hurried to occupy the No. 1 sentry post.
Who knows, as soon as they entered the sentry post, the enemy's overwhelming artillery hit me.
The sand and rocks on the position suddenly flew away, and several shells fell one after another on Bao Shuangquan's side, injuring him.
Slightly wounded, he continued to hold his position, but the enemy's artillery fire became more and more intensive, and one shell after another fell on Bao Shuangquan's side.
Bao Shuangquan's flesh and blood finally couldn't bear it, and after being knocked down by the cannonball again, he slept forever on the 425 heights.
For the artillery fire of the Vietnamese army, our army gave a multiplied response, and the battle lasted all day.
By night, out of 88 commandos, only 8 fighters remained.
In this battle, our side annihilated more than 300 Vietnamese troops at the cost of dozens of people, which can be called a great victory.
For the soldiers who sacrificed, they were also awarded meritorious services by their superiors.
When the news of her son's sacrifice reached Bao Shuangquan's mother's ears, the old man couldn't believe it was true.
She clutched the medal of merit that her son had exchanged for his life on the battlefield, and she couldn't help herself for a long time.
It wasn't until 2018 that the old man had a serious illness, and when Bao Shuangquan's comrades-in-arms came to visit, the comrades-in-arms found out that the old man only had one son.
And the old man also revealed a secret that had been hidden for a long time, Bao Shuangquan was an orphan and was raised by himself.
The old man trained Bao Shuangquan to be an excellent defender of the motherland, and after learning this, the comrades-in-arms respected the old man more and more.

The few surviving soldiers of that year hold a gathering every year to mourn the comrades who died in this battle.
