Veterans of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea Series - Soviet doctors performed seven surgeries on me, the story of Wu Qianfu

Today, I came to the Dragon Cave alone, but I couldn't find the house and the old man from 10 years ago, so I had to ask someone. When the stainless steel door that could not be opened for a long time was "buttoned" open on the phone of the enthusiastic villagers, when a yellowed revolutionary soldier certificate and several exquisite commemorative medals were placed in front of my eyes one by one, when I entered the house and looked at the photos on the wall, all the past events were spread out in the warm sun on January 4, 2014.

Today, the hero to be remembered is named Wu Qianfu. Here's a transcript of some of my interviews with this veteran 10 years ago:

I was born on November 12, 1920. I enlisted in November 1949, and I was the fourth field of Lin Biao and Luo Ronghuan, and was assigned to the 1st Battalion and 1st Company of the 348th Regiment of the 116th Division of the 39th Army.

After the flames of war in Korea were ignited, the 39th Army was transferred to the north, and after three months of training in Liaoyang, on October 19, we removed all the words and marks related to Chinese characters on our coats, hats, and hand towels. In the dark, a white hand towel was tied to each person's left arm for easy identification.

When we arrived in North Korea, we saw that North Korea was not what it looked like, it was full of holes, there were bombed and burned marks everywhere, and dead bodies were everywhere on the roads and along the rivers. The temperature was low, and the water-soaked clothes when crossing the river were frozen and stiffened, and the walking was loud. On the evening of October 25th, we won a battle at Yunshan. However, the comrades-in-arms sacrificed a lot, and when cleaning the battlefield, they counted the sacrificed comrades, dug a pit three rooms wide and several zhang deep, and buried the sacrificed comrades.

The American soldiers fought stubbornly and refused to surrender. Finally caught a captive, this captive was very strong, horizontal and vertical, three or four people pushed and refused to leave. Later, through interrogation, I learned that the Americans at that time advertised that the Chinese were very fierce, abused prisoners, and they fought with the psychology of desperately not allowing them to be captured alive. After learning of this situation, our volunteers strengthened the political education of giving preferential treatment to prisoners, and set off an upsurge of learning the American dialect of "surrendering the gun and not killing the prisoners, and giving preferential treatment to prisoners." I went to junior high school, and my education level was the highest in the three classes, and I was recommended as a member of the Xi committee in the platoon, and I participated in the Xi training of the battalion and company, and when I came back, I taught everyone to speak English: "Harrow Harrow, Donte Aket, almost Abuganshi, Oh Abibi, Rise Virtue." "When everyone is fine, they recite every day "Harrow Harrow, Donte Acket". I am the leader of the study Xi group, and I am also the leader of the second group, leading four soldiers. The squad leader brought four, the deputy squad leader brought four, and I brought four.

In the second battle, when encountering recalcitrant American soldiers, everyone "Harrow Harrow, Donte Ackt, almost Abuganshi, Oh Abibi, rise up." "Many American soldiers surrendered obediently. For the captives who refused to leave, they also took the initiative to leave.

During the second battle, during the day, in order to conceal ourselves, we could only watch the planes close to the ground for reconnaissance. The order was from above not to shoot the planes, and if they were exposed, the casualties caused by the bombing of the planes would be immeasurable. At night, tracer shells lit up from time to time, and shells exploded all night long. In order to seize the position, the enemy bombarded the aircraft and artillery in turn, and then the infantry attacked under the guidance of tanks. We are short of ammunition, and in order to save bullets, we often wait for the enemy to approach before fighting.

Once, I was wounded, and that night, after rushing two or three hundred meters with my comrades, we touched three enemy positions in a row and captured a lot of light and heavy machine guns and bullets from trenches and pillboxes. I rushed into the fourth position first, and just as I was touching the machine gun, an enemy came from behind. I heard the voice and turned my head to see that he was behind me. I wanted to capture him alive, but when I saw that he was too tall and feared that I would not be able to lower him, I stabbed him in the chest with a bayonet and threw him to the ground. I didn't know that when he fell to the ground, the gun in his hand rang out, and it hit me in the left thigh, and the two of us fell together. When my comrades in the back heard the gunshots, they hurriedly ran up, and when they saw that we were entangled, they smashed the enemy's head with the butt of their guns and rescued me.

Everyone wanted to carry me back, and since the battle was tight, I gritted my teeth and didn't send it, and told everyone to rush forward quickly. When it poured, I can't remember. When I woke up, it was dawning, and my comrades from the health team were pulling my left thigh back from under me and carrying me on a stretcher. At that time, the road was hard and slippery, and after a short walk, enemy planes came, and they hurriedly carried the stretcher into the grass. I don't know how long I walked or how long I stopped. In my impression, I got on the train again, walked a short distance and hid in a bomb shelter, and later changed trains. Even though I took a car and a train, under the bombardment of airplanes, it was also stop-and-go. I still remember that once the train stopped in the cave overnight because there were too many enemy planes. That night, dozens of comrades-in-arms died on the train, of course, some died of injuries and illnesses that could not be treated in time, and some were suffocated and starved to death. In those days, there were very few ambulance personnel, and the food could not be supplied in time, and all the food was rice balls.

As a result of this injury, I left the Korean battlefield. After more than a month, he finally returned to his motherland and went to Changchun for treatment. Because of the tension of the war in Korea, he was later transferred to Lushun. In Lushun, I was treated with advanced medical skills by Soviet doctors. At that time, domestic medical technology was limited, and in order to save their lives, many comrades-in-arms were amputated. For the sake of the future life of the soldiers to resist US aggression and aid Korea, the Soviet doctors tried their best to preserve the limbs of their comrades-in-arms. My leg was injured for more than a month, it was so infected that it was supposed to be amputated, but after careful study, Soviet doctors performed seven surgeries to save my left leg. The last operation was a broken bone as big as a millet shell during the examination, and the seventh operation was performed. On that occasion, I fell asleep for three days and three nights before waking up.

In 1952, I was discharged from the hospital and was arranged to study Xi at the Invalids School in Xiangtan, Hunan Province. At that time, there was a policy that "disabled servicemen should be placed in jobs regardless of whether they were educated or not", and they could be arranged to work after three years of graduation. In 1956, in the last semester, I responded to the call of the Party Central Committee to "return to my hometown to engage in construction" and applied seven times but was not approved. I found the principal Zhong Desheng and explained that there were parents, siblings, lovers, and children at home, so I was approved to be demobilized and returned to my hometown.

When I came back, there were only three party members in the village, so I served as the cashier and deputy director, and I was engaged in production all my life.

Veteran, I can still recall the amazement I felt when you sat on the edge of the doorstep and said "Harrow-Harrow, Dont Ackert, almost Abugansh, Oh A-a-by, Rise", but you returned in the spring of 2019. The high hill in front of your ancestral house has been filled in, and a tall and beautiful house has been built next to it. It's the same winter, veteran, the winter ten years ago was so warm, why is it so cold today? Feng'er, are you, like me, also missing our veterans and the bloody battles 70 years ago?
