Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

author:Dark Witch Hat

Magic is a type of spell in Elden Ring, many of which deal powerful damage. These spells are the most worthwhile to have.

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

The world of Elden Ring is full of spells that can be Xi and cast. These spells fall into two main categories: magic and spells. Spells often rely on high faith and good arcane value, while magic is driven almost entirely by intelligence. There are a few exceptions, but players who want to cast magic should be prepared to invest points in intelligence and find the best staff.

Among the many forms of magic, some are better than others. Some of the magic in Elden Ring can easily defeat certain bosses, while others are better suited for controlling angry hordes of enemies. No matter what the situation, there's always magic to use!

Elden Ring continues to be popular with players. Many players have moved into the new game enhancement mode, while some have taken the time to carefully search for every item and collectible in the game's beautiful world. FromSoftware hasn't given up on the game either, it's still receiving updates, tweaking weapons, enemies, and bugs in the game.

At the end of April, Elden Ring received a sizable balance patch with a ton of changes to giant weapons and magic. With this balanced patch, there are some more spells worth considering adding to their arsenal, as well as a boost to some already powerful spells.

No.12 Rock Bursting

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

Previously, this melee range magic was a bit unsatisfactory. This magic works well with the digger's staff, which can be obtained fairly early in the Elden Ring game. Before the balance changed at the end of April, the rock burst was just too slow and inefficient. Enemies can easily interrupt the player while casting, and because it's a melee spell, this happens quite often.

Rock Blasts have now been enhanced, making it easier for the caster to withstand enemy attacks. As a result, rock blasts have become a good melee option for spellcasters, especially those using the digger's staff.

No.11 Oracle Bubble

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

Oracle Bubbles is already a nice budget range damage. It doesn't match many of the game's area-of-effect damage spells, however, thanks to its slow cast time and slow regeneration. Luckily, the balance patch at the end of April strengthened the oracle bubble on both counts. With increased cast speed and better recovery times, Oracle Bubble is a suitable spell for players who want to deal damage to multiple enemies on the screen.

No.10 Magma Shooting

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

Fire and fire effects are often exclusive to spells in Elden Ring. Magic is usually more focused on magic damage and freezing than fire, but the magic of magma shooting is a rare exception. Some of the more powerful magma magic requires high faith, but Magma Shot is good for players who want to try it out, as it is lenient.

The player needs 19 intelligence and 10 faith to cast this magic. The spell itself deals decent fire damage and explodes on impact, causing a small burst of damage. It's the perfect magic for dealing with a large number of weaker enemies at once. Players who want to get this magic should head to Volcano Manor and start the questline there.

  • Magma Shot was enhanced on April 24, 2022, with a reduced amount of mana consumed and an increased cast speed.

No.9 Carian Greatsword

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

In general, mages and wizards are ranged combat characters in most RPGs. While all-magic builds can do the same in Elden Ring, casters can also engage enemies at close quarters with a variety of melee style magic. One of the best of these is the cast of the Carian Greatsword, which can be purchased from Mirill at the Church's Oath Office.

The cast of the Carian Greatsword sends out a large magic sword from the caster's staff and causes the caster to swing forward in a wide arc. This spell can be cast consecutively, as long as the player has enough spirit and stamina. While this spell may not seem powerful compared to the game's powerful weapons, it works well with intelligence and can easily take out groups of enemies at close range with a few precise magic cuts.

  • The Kalian Greatsword was enhanced on April 24, 2022, with an increased cast speed for mages with lower agility.

No.8 陨石

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

Gravity magic is usually marked with a purple icon on the magic screen. Meteorite is one of the best gravity magic in the game, allowing players to punish distant enemies with three high-damage meteorites that fall from the sky. This magic is a good choice to start a fight, as its slow cast time makes it a bit difficult to use in ongoing combat.

This spell costs 30 mana, so it can be a bit difficult for some casters to cast it repeatedly. However, it does decent damage, and is effective for interrupting large enemies or enemies with high armor. This magic can be found in the Eternal Hell of the Royal Necropolis, where the Snow White King must be defeated first.

No.7 The Thorn of Sin

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

Magic is almost always driven by the intellect, but Guilty Thorn can also be counted as a spell because of its requirements. This spell requires 24 faith to cast, which is not a very low number. All-magic builds should have no problem balancing high intelligence and high faith, but those built with pure magic may have to forgo this particular magic.

For those who are able to cast it, Sinthorn is an incredible area damage spell that can completely shred attacking enemies. This magic consumes very little mana and deals rapid area damage to enemies around the player. It is suitable for getting rid of groups of enemies at close range and giving the player a respite. Players can find this magic in Lienia, after defeating a group of enemies in the northwest of the Land of Grace in the Artist's Hut.

No.6 Carian Piercing

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

Like the Carian Greatsword, the Impaler turns the caster's staff into a magic weapon for quick attacks, which can be cast continuously. The Carian greatsword attacks with a wide horizontal sweep, while the Impaler stabs straight forward. It has a good range, making it an excellent choice for boss battles and heavily armored enemies.

The Carian Impiercer can be charged upon cast for greater range and damage value, and can even be used while riding, as long as the player places their staff in the right hand position. This magic can be found in Caria Manor, after defeating a beetle behind the garden area.

No.5 The Fog of the Night Maiden

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

The Night Maiden's Mist is a bit unobtrusive to most Elden Ring mages. This spell can be purchased from Celia, Gorui in the Magic Town, after completing his quest. The Night Maiden's mist emits a gray cloud that inflicts continuous damage on anyone standing inside. That's right: this magic is dangerous because it can harm enemies, friends, and even the player himself.

However, with proper placement and timing, the Night Maiden's Mist can melt the boss in a matter of minutes. If the player traps the boss in the fog, they will take damage over time, plus other damage that the player is able to inflict. This magic works well against groups of enemies that move slowly.

No.4 Cryolite Peak

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

Of the many status effects in Elden Ring, Freeze is probably the best effect a player can inflict on an enemy. Freezing increases damage taken by enemies (or players) from all sources, which is very beneficial for boss fights with huge health. In addition to this, frozen enemies also enter a brief stun animation, giving the player a second of free time.

This spell can be purchased from Seluvis after starting Lenny's quest from behind Caria Manor. It's a great option for the player's primary attack spell, and the frozen trigger works on almost all enemies in the game. Be sure to take advantage of them.

No.3 Amphibole arc

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

The Amphibole Arc is the initial magic of the astrologer class, and can be learned from Seren for 1500 runes shortly after Xi the game starts. This magic doesn't require tedious rune collection, and its availability is one of the reasons why it's one of the best spells in the game.

Amphibole Arcs are a great choice for dealing with hordes of enemies or taking down pesky flying enemies. The arc of this spell widens as it flies forward until it eventually dissipates. Learning to Xi this arc to maximize damage can bring out the true potential of this low-power-consuming magic. Players no longer have to worry about flying enemies, as this magic is able to hit them, even if they dodge in the air.

No.2 Rock Throwing

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

Rock Throwing is a great item that can be obtained early in the game. It can deal a lot of damage and easily interrupt enemies, resulting in even more devastating critical hits. It can be found fairly early in places where players are willing to venture into the ruins of Called's Philosopher's Street. The player can make their way through the many poison mages there to grab this magic. It is not protected by any leader.

Rock Throw summons three large stones from the ground and throws them at the target. They move quite slowly and have a poor turning radius, so particularly nimble enemies can easily dodge them. However, large enemies or small groups of enemies can be easily knocked down by rock throws, and the recast interruption effect makes this spell easily one of the best spells in the game.

No.1 Amphibole shard

Elden Ring: The 12 best spells, ranked by level

One of the best all-around spells in Elden Ring also happens to be one of its most basic spells. Glitter Pebble Magic is the base equipment of the Astrologer class, and can be easily purchased from Seren or Thorpe for 1000 runes. When it comes to basic attacks, there's perhaps no better magic than an amphibole shard. It has a low cost of spiritual power and gets stronger as it increases its intelligence.

This spell can be cast quickly, resulting in higher DPS than a slow, large-cell damage spell. It can also interrupt low-profile enemies and trap them in a barrage of magic pebbles. Somehow, the best magic in the game isn't a gorgeous high-level spell cast with a high cost, but the basic magic missile that is found in the magic system of almost every RPG.

Elden Ring can be played on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
