At 23:59 on December 18, 2023, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake occurred in Jishishan County, Linxia Prefecture, Gansu Province, with an epicenter depth of 10 kilometers.

The epicenter is located in Liugou Township, Jishishan County, 8 kilometers away from Jishishan County, 39 kilometers away from Linxia City, and 102 kilometers away from Lanzhou City. The epicenter and surrounding houses and infrastructure such as water, electricity, and roads were damaged to varying degrees.

It is understood that Heya Village, Liuji Township, Jishishan County, is the closest village and town to the epicenter of the earthquake. The affected villagers in Heya Village told the 21st Century Business Herald reporter that because they were worried about aftershocks, they had set up temporary tents for the night.

Villagers told the 21st Century Business Herald reporter that Yangwa Village, Liuji Township, Jishishan County, was also seriously affected, and houses were damaged to varying degrees due to the earthquake.

According to the State Grid Gansu Provincial Electric Power Company, as of 18:30 on the 19th, the damaged backbone network circuits in the earthquake-stricken area of Jishishan County have all been restored, and the power supply of the county is stable. At present, the power supply of the temporary resettlement sites is being fully guaranteed.

Villagers told the 21st Century Business Herald reporter that on the night of the earthquake, the houses began to shake, and everyone ran to the open space to avoid the earthquake. Soon after, it was learned through information from the village that some of the villagers had been killed.

The 21st Century Business Herald reporter learned that almost all villagers have gone to the rescue tent for the night because they are worried that the aftershocks will continue to damage the houses.

At around 12 o'clock in the evening of the 19th, the affected villagers said that there were aftershocks again in Yangwa Village, Liuji Township, Jishishan County, and the tremors were felt strongly. Subsequently, according to the China Earthquake Network, a 3.4-magnitude earthquake occurred in Jishishan County, Linxia Prefecture, Gansu Province at 00:32:52 on the 20th.

According to the China Earthquake Network Quick News Weibo news, Gansu Linxia Prefecture Jishishan County 6.2 earthquake aftershock statistics: as of 08:00 on December 20, a total of 423 aftershocks were recorded, including 10 aftershocks of magnitude 3.0 and above, respectively 6.0-6.9 0 times, 5.0-5.9 0 times, 4.0-4.9 2 times, 3.0-3.9 8 times, 3.0-3.9 magnitude 413 aftershocks below 3.0 magnitude, 29 times of 2.0-2.9 magnitude, 104 times of 1.0-1.9 magnitude, 280 times below 1.0 magnitude, the maximum aftershock of 4.1 magnitude, about 14 kilometers away from the main shock.

Since then, relief materials and vehicles from social enterprises, including Gansu Keneng Electric Power Co., Ltd. and Gansu Haoshi Carbon Fiber Co., Ltd., have arrived in Yangwa Village one after another. It is reported that the above two enterprises rushed from Lanzhou and sent them to Yangwa Village through the Jishishan County Civil Affairs Bureau.

The 21st Century Business Herald reporter learned that after the arrival of relief materials in many places, including thickened cotton coats, convenience foods, quilts, etc., enterprise personnel and villagers began to unload and distribute them one after another.

It is reported that on the 19th, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management urgently allocated 200 million yuan of central natural disaster relief funds to Gansu and Qinghai provinces. Among them, 150 million yuan in Gansu and 50 million yuan in Qinghai will support local earthquake relief work, ensure the safety of people's lives and property, and minimize disaster losses and impacts.

On the same day, the National Committee for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Relief, the Ministry of Emergency Management, together with the State Food and Material Reserves Administration, on the basis of the 42,500 pieces of central disaster relief materials that had been allocated to the disaster areas in Gansu in the early stage, urgently transferred the second batch of 47,500 pieces of central disaster relief materials to Gansu Province, including 2,500 cotton tents, 20,000 cotton coats (cold-proof clothing), 5,000 quilts, 5,000 folding beds, 15,000 moisture-proof mats, and 30 site lighting equipment. In response to the earthquake situation in Qinghai and the needs of disaster relief work, 21,500 pieces of central disaster relief materials were urgently allocated to Qinghai Province, including 1,500 cotton tents, 5,000 cotton coats, 5,000 quilts, 5,000 cotton mattresses, 5,000 folding beds, and 20 site lighting equipment.
