From 449,000, how will the new generation of Mercedes-Benz E evolve?

On the evening of December 14, the new Mercedes-Benz long-wheelbase E-class was launched in Beijing, with three different configurations priced between 449,000 and 529,000 yuan. Among them, the 2.0T low-power version of the E260L has only one configuration version, priced at 449,000 yuan, while the 2.0T high-power version of the E300L has two configuration versions, priced at 499,000 yuan and 529,000 yuan respectively.

Although it is a replacement model, the styling changes of the new E-Class are not significant. After the mid-term facelift of the previous generation of the E-Class, the styling began to move closer to the flagship S-Class, so the transition to this generation of the E-Class will not be unfamiliar to users.

The most intuitive and obvious upgrade is the intelligent cockpit. The cockpit layout is no longer the non-touch dual screen of the previous generation, but closer to the layout of the Mercedes-Benz EQ pure electric family MBUX car machine system, the driving screen provides naked-eye 3D function, and the central control screen is integrated with a 14.4-inch central control screen and a 12.3-inch passenger screen. The air conditioning outlet adjustment is implanted into the vehicle and adopts an electrified adjustment method. Behind this is a reflection of Mercedes-Benz's thinking about the interactive experience of the new generation.

What's more, the matching cockpit chip was directly upgraded to Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295. This is also the cockpit chip that many new domestic brands have only begun to equip this year, and the new E-class cockpit function performance is not outdated.

The car machine system supports iQiyi, Tencent Video, Volcano Car Entertainment, QQ Music, Himalaya and other localized entertainment content ecology, and also gives away 3 years of free unlimited traffic. The navigation system is an in-depth customized version of AutoNavi Map, which is rendered by Unity 3D engine, with realistic road effects and lane-level navigation guidance. The 4D surround sound of Berlin Sound supports the analysis of the Dolby Atmos system, bringing a better audio-visual experience.

In addition to the intelligent upgrade, the new E-Class also has highlights in terms of luxury configuration. The wheelbase is 3,094 mm, which is 15 mm higher than the previous model. On top of that, the rear seats are adjustable at an angle of 36°, which is only 1° less than the S-Class, the seat cushions have been additionally lengthened, and they are also equipped with electrically adjustable leg rests. On the basis of Mercedes-Benz's most representative and soft "Maybach headrest", the new E-Class also innovatively introduces a rear neck heating function.

In terms of powertrain, the upgrade of the new E-class focuses more on fuel economy and environmental protection, and all models are 48V ISG motor mild hybrid engines, which bring the benefit that compared with the previous generation E300L, the 0-100km/h acceleration time is increased by 0.3s, and the fuel consumption per 100km is reduced by 0.9L, while the fuel consumption of the E260L is reduced by 1.6L per 100km.

In terms of safety, the all-new E-Class uses a steel-aluminum hybrid body, and the proportion of high-strength steel is more than 77%, including 20% ultra-high-strength steel. The number of airbags has reached 13, and the Pre-Safe® preventive safety protection system is used to better restrain the occupants and protect them from physical injuries caused by collisions.

At the same time, the new car also debuted the L2+ navigation assistance driving system, which will cover high-speed and urban expressways nationwide from 2024 onwards, realizing high-speed point-to-point navigation assistance driving capabilities and automatic on-ramp and ramp capabilities. The system has typical high-end intelligent driving functions such as automatic ultra-slow driving, automatic lane change, and automatic avoidance of large vehicles, and has made localized fine matching and tuning according to the Xi habits and road conditions of Chinese users.

The prototype of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class was first created in 1947. The eighth-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class was put into production at Beijing Benz in 2005, and to date, more than 1.3 million domestically produced E-Class cars have been delivered. In today's complex market, traditional luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz have always dominated the medium and large sedan segment, and are also the core competitive barriers of luxury brands.
