Farewell: Li Meijin, a survivor of the "comfort women" system of the Japanese invasion of China, passed away

author:Li Taibai 1237

Lee Mi-jin, an innocent victim of the comfort women system, has endured endless suffering and torture throughout her life. She is a witness in the Memorial Hall of the Nanjing Massacre of the Japanese Invasion of China, and her narration is an important testimony to the historical truth.

In 1941, at the age of 16, Lee Mi-jin was forced to become a comfort woman by the Japanese army, and a period of pain and humiliation began. During the day, she was forced to do hard labor, and at night she was sexually assaulted and abused by the Japanese army. Her body and mind were subjected to unimaginable pain and devastation during this time. Even decades later, her wounds still ache when rainy weather comes, a lifelong wound that this history has taken her into.

Unfortunately, Lee passed away on November 9, 2023, at the age of 98. She has experienced too much pain and injustice in this world, and although her passing is sad news, we must not forget her existence and the suffering she has experienced, which is our responsibility and respect for history.

Lee Mei Kim is not just a sufferer, in her later years, she showed a strong and optimistic side. Despite her poor health, she always maintained a bright smile and a warm attitude towards visitors and guests. She likes to lie on the chaise longue in her home, close her eyes, and whenever someone comes to visit her, she always greets them with a warm smile and warmly invites them to dinner. This optimistic and kind attitude makes people feel warm and kind.

In April this year, the staff of the memorial hall went to Hainan again to visit Li Meijin, and she happily sang "Without the Communist Party, there would be no New China", which represents her firm belief and gratitude to New China. However, this farewell became a farewell, and we could no longer hear her singing and see her smile.
