When Zhang Juzheng's bones were not cold, why did the disciples launch the "Inverted Zhang Movement"?

Before Zhang Juzheng died, he probably didn't expect that his life would be frozen in the hot summer of fifty-eight years old because of hemorrhoids. Otherwise, with his great wisdom and authority over the country, he would never have hastily arranged for Pan Sheng and Yu Youding to enter the cabinet the day before his death. Pan Sheng was Feng Bao's master, Zhang Juzheng was unconscious at that time, under Feng Bao's strong recommendation, Zhang Juzheng, who was completely unable to do his own, wrote the names of Pan Sheng and others into the list, sealed and submitted them to Emperor Wanli, and under Feng Bao's arrangement, Pan Sheng's position in the cabinet was ranked above Shen Shixing, ranking second and second. This Jiajing 24-year-old first-class leader in the official career, two years ago to the Ministry of Rites to return to the office, this time called into the cabinet, because of the special identity of Feng Bao teacher, to Zhang Siwei, Shen Shixing are a threat, Zhang Siwei guessed that Shen Shixing was unwilling to succumb to Pan Sheng, the two worked together, sarcastic officials attacked, causing Pan Sheng to take office on the way, turned to the new title to return to his hometown, he also became the Ming Dynasty history did not arrive cabinet ministers.

The Zhang family is sad and the royal joy is happy. When Zhang Juzheng's soul returned to his hometown and was buried in Le Zhiyuan, where he lived in Zeng Township, the palace was full of joy. On August 11, Concubine Gong gave birth to the eldest son of Emperor Wanli. This incident became the cardinal of the political situation, and it was none other than Zhang Siwei, the newly promoted first assistant Zhang Siwei, who was carried by Zhang Juzheng and relied on during his lifetime, who not only reversed the general tone of Zhang Juzheng's policy of ruling the world with strict ropes during his lifetime, but also used his protégé to set off the first wave of anti-Zhang. After Zhang Siwei's death, his successor, Shen Shixing, wrote a Shinto tablet for him, counting this process, to the effect that since Jiangling was in the country, everything was punished by the law. His punishment of officials was harsh and harsh, and it was hoped that the situation would end as soon as possible, just as a hungry man craves food. At the beginning of Zhang Juzheng's death, his cronies and the people he used still held important positions in various ministries and courts, and they exchanged views with Feng Bao and other eunuchs, and adhered to the laws set by him during his lifetime, and the things proposed by the cabinet were too dirty to be implemented. Zhang Siwei is usually deeply worried about this, and said to Shen Shixing:

"It's hard to fight, but it's tacit. Today, the sea is tired of hard work for a long time, if it is intended to show the Quartet in the middle, directly pointed, so that a little leniency is engaged, and our generation has no deep responsibility, it is advisable to be less reassuring. "The birth of the emperor's heir, and the public joy can be known, said: "time can not be lost", is a handwritten persuasion, it is advisable to celebrate the world, the province to supervise and blame, slow the levy, lift the legacy, sympathize with the disaster, in order to raise the vitality of the country, and out of the division of the wide provisions, is the surplus profit and loss, where dozens of things to advance. On the gladly ordered to do it.

Zhongcheng refers to the governor, and directly refers to the governor and other officials. The governor and inspector of the Ming Dynasty were called the "two courts" and belonged to the highest local administrative and supervision officials.

Zhang Juzheng single-handedly planted Zhang Siwei, and when Liu Tai impeached Zhang Juzheng in the fourth year of Wanli, he even said that Zhang Juzheng pulled Zhang Siwei into the cabinet in order to make a comeback with the help of Zhang Siwei after serving the mourning of his elderly parents one day. Zhang Juzheng, a character who values him so much, why did he launch an action to reverse Zhang when his bones were still cold? Could it be that the two of them have a deep grudge?

Consolidating the hard-won position of first assistant is Zhang Siwei's primary consideration. He knew very well that Zhang Juzheng had grievances before his death, and as a secondary assistant who had been working with Yuan Fu for many years, if he did not immediately draw a clear line with Zhang Juzheng and decouple from it in an all-round way, the government and the opposition would pour out their grievances and dissatisfaction with Zhang Juzheng on him, and he would become the target of everyone's attacks at that time. In particular, he noticed that the adult Emperor Wanli had already been bored with Zhang Juzheng, so he wanted to take advantage of this to win the hearts of the people, and at this time there was a great opportunity, that is, the emperor's eldest son was born, according to the convention to issue an edict to the world, Zhang Siwei then said: "The emperor has been in the palace for ten years, the discipline is cultivated, the Chinese and foreign laws are followed, the warehouse is full, and the four Yi guests are served, which is enough to be called public security." However, in recent years, disasters and disasters have been seen frequently, and this year there have been many floods and droughts reported in various places in the north and south, and the civil and military officials do not know the original intention of the imperial court, and often do their work in a hurry, so that the expropriation is not artistic, and the ban is obedient, so that in this peaceful world, the people are uneasy, China and foreign countries are groaning, and they have lost their hearts of the happy land, and there are worries to be hidden. ...... It is advisable to take this Daqing, Ming descends the sound of virtue, the slang is annoying, and the Hongfu is beneficial, so that all the countries of the four seas will wear the emperor's benevolence, encourage Xinchang, this consolidates people's hearts, and one of the big ends of the national vein is also cultivated. This is in the arms of Emperor Wanli, and he replied: "This is exactly what I mean, and I will do it according to the plan." Since then, the government has changed slightly, and his words have also become comfortable, slandering Zhang Juzheng's current affairs.

Although some of the 33 articles of the edict drafted by Shen Shixing were routine, the overall policy tone was comprehensively lenient, including Zhang Juzheng's great policy of "one hundred times" before his death.

Zhang Siwei was born in a big businessman family, and his career was also repeatedly impeached for feeding powerful figures in the DPRK and China from time to time. He maintained a very good relationship with Gao Gong and Zhang Juzheng, and because of his uncle Wang Chonggu, he had a closer relationship with Gao Gong. After Zhao Zhenji was dismissed, Gao Gong once wanted to pull him into the cabinet, but failed because of some objections. In October of the fifth year of Longqing, he was begged to be a servant of the Ministry of Officials, and on the way back to his hometown, he sent two kinds of books to Zhang Juzheng, and said a lot of heartfelt words. He told Zhang Siwei that he would reconsider his post and plan to start using it next autumn, and then felt that since he was summoned by special order to serve as a squad official for the crown prince, he advised Zhang Siwei to go to his post immediately and not hesitate. In February of the sixth year of Longqing, Zhang Siwei, who had been dismissed for only three months, returned to the DPRK. Zhang Siwei made such a quick comeback, and he must have been strongly mediated by Zhang Juzheng. At this time, the battle between Gao Gong and Zhang Juzheng was close to a showdown, and Zhang Siwei, as a close friend of the two, also tried his best to mediate and mediate in it. Soon, Zhang Juzheng instructed Cao Dayu to impeach Gao Gong, which included Zhang Siwei's provision of 800 gold to serve as the attendant of the East Palace. Gao Gong defended that this appointment corresponded to Zhang Siwei's prestige, and that he and Zhang Juzheng jointly recommended it, saying that Zhang Siwei had given 800 gold to whomever saw it? And why did he not say anything about it? Because of this incident, Zhang Siwei was dissatisfied with Zhang Juzheng, but he could not bear it.

In addition to feeding Zhang Juzheng when he was young, Zhang Siwei also attached himself to Shanxi villagers with Emperor Wanli's maternal grandfather and Empress Dowager Li's father, Li Wei, who was attached to Shanxi villagers and became an Austrian aid. secretly befriended Feng Bao again, and after Zhang Juzheng found out, he reprimanded.

In March of the third year of Wanli, Zhang Juzheng was introduced, and Zhang Siwei joined the cabinet as a counselor. But at that time, Zhang Juzheng regarded himself as the prime minister of the country, and decided his own political affairs, and he had nothing to do with his colleagues. In addition, Zhang Siwei was lifeless for the article, and the taste was the same as chewing wax, and Zhang Juzheng was not satisfied with the drafted documents. After Lu Tiaoyang became a minister, although he was in the position of second assistant, he was respectful to Zhang Juzheng, and he did not dare to deny all political affairs.

Zhang Siwei claimed to be known to Juzheng and followed him for more than 20 years, why couldn't he wait to reverse Zhang Juzheng's actions when Zhang Juzheng's bones were not cold, and bewitched Emperor Wanli, saying that this move was "consolidating people's hearts and cultivating one of the major ends of the national lineage", which caused a major overturn in policy, and then became the lead to overthrow Zhang Juzheng's "divine flag" and cause him to suffer the disaster of the Shen family and the extinction of the family?

Such a question has attracted great attention from the world since Zhang Juzheng's "Jiashen disaster" was raided and his family was destroyed, because this is not a personal grudge, but a matter of right and wrong in the world. Zhang Maoxiu, the son of Zhang Juzheng, who personally suffered this disaster, also wrote the article "The Cause of the Disaster of the First Gong" when he edited the "Zhang Wenzhong Public Collection" for his father. Emperor Shunzhi of the Qing Dynasty refuted Monk Mu Chen's accusation of Zhang Juzheng's "seizure of power" and said: "At that time, the lord of the country was suspicious, so that Juzheng did not hold the gang alone, then he built a room, who would succeed in it? ”

There is a Song Xuezhu in Zhang Juzheng's hometown, he is a native of the Song family in the east of Jingzhou City, after entering the Qing Dynasty, he was admitted to the Jinshi in the Shunzhi four-year examination, and was elected as the Jishi of the Hanlin Academy, and soon changed to the official of the Ministry of Officials, in charge of the Henan imperial examination. Later, he returned to his hometown to serve his elderly mother. The magistrate often came to his door to ask him for advice on the great policy of reviving the revolution. During his retirement, he investigated and studied the causes of Zhang Juzheng's troubles in detail, and wrote a long article entitled "Zhang Wenzhong's Testament". Or in order to avoid suspicion, although Kangxi's "Jingzhou Mansion Chronicles" and the later Qianlong's "County Chronicles" both included this article, the section "Particularly suspicious of Zhang Fengpan (Zhang Siwei's frame)" was deleted. Later, the compiler recompiled the Fu Zhi, and the compiler copied this paragraph from the family collection kept by Shi Weijia, a descendant of Song Xuezhu, to supplement it, and added a note to say: "Examining the "History of the Ming Dynasty", (Zhang) is a four-dimensional government, and the prince (Zhang Juzheng) recommended Wang Seal, Zeng Shengwu and other enemies, and the blood book of the Ministry of Rites, there is also a "inform the Puzhou Xianggong" Yunyun, which is a disaster behind him, and it is undoubtedly the stone of the phoenix. The "Blood Book of the Ministry of Rites" mentioned by the compiler refers to the blood book written by Zhang Juzheng's eldest son, Zhang Jingxiu, the director of the Department of Rites and Ceremonies, before he was forced to die.

Song Hak-so's conclusion is the most noteworthy:

Indeed, I saw the ice-maker, the relatives, the sun-changing, the Zhongguan, the flickering, the two and three dukes of the phoenix, and the eagle and the dog's ears. Therefore, the Holy Mother of the Two Palaces, who did not hear the decree of the Divine Sect, and the resentment of the Divine Sect for 37 years, was not only Xinzheng did not have this party, but Jinshen Ning had this power!

"Ice-making" is an ancient funeral, which refers to the period from mid-spring to autumn, when the nobles died to be buried at the right time, in order to preserve the corpse, the ice tray was used to cool it, and the corpse was placed under the bed. Zhang Juzheng died in June, which refers to Zhang Juzheng's bones being overturned before he was cold, because Zhang Juzheng suppressed his relatives too much during his lifetime, and was settled by the autumn queen. The so-called "changing the day" refers to the emperor's attitude towards Zhang Juzheng from trust to annoyance, shame and anger, because of the role of eunuchs in it. And when the claws of these two forces extended to Zhang Juzheng after his death, the cabinet headed by Zhang Siwei did not uphold justice, but flickered, causing the situation to develop. As for the people who denounced Zhang Juzheng wave after wave, they were all eagle dogs who were used.

Empress Dowager Li died in the 42nd year of Wanli. Before Zhang Juzheng's death, Empress Dowager Li trusted him both dedicatedly and devotedly, and treated Zhang Juzheng's mother like family. In the process of "chasing the crime" for two or three years after Zhang Juzheng's death, the Queen Mother seemed to have evaporated from the world. And Emperor Wanli's resentment towards Zhang Juzheng did not let go until he died thirty-seven years later and was taken into the coffin.

Kangxi's "Jingzhou Mansion Chronicles" deleted the section of Zhang Siwei's framing, which is about Zhang Juzheng's funeral, Zhang Siwei, who presided over cabinet affairs in the imperial court, killed and surrendered to the border town in eastern Liaodong, that is, the so-called "Changdingbao victory", without verification, he hurriedly sued the temple and rewarded the "meritorious", which was later revealed, and Zhang Juzheng advocated accountability, causing Zhang Siwei to hold a grudge.

On the evening of March 28, the sixth year of Wanli, Emperor Wanli received a military intelligence from the Titang official in Liaodong, saying that Liaodong Town had achieved a great victory of killing more than 400 levels. Because the wedding ceremony had just been held, Emperor Wanli was so excited that he stayed awake all night, and the next morning, he told his mother about it, and Empress Dowager Li was also very happy. Emperor Wanli immediately sent a message to the cabinet and said: "Yesterday, I saw Liaodongtang report a great victory, more than the previous time, and I was deeply pleased. This morning I heard about Our Lady, and I was very happy. Just like the oracle of Our Lady, Yuan Fu usually added his intentions to strategize, and Qing and others worked together to praise it. "When the Ministry of War was ordered to discuss the merits, a copy was copied, sealed in the edict, and the Ministry of War immediately sent someone to go to Mr. Zhang to see it in the starry night, and the narrative should be more generous than before. That is, the specifications of the heavy prize are higher than the victory of the mountain splitting in February.

The Ming Dynasty rewarded military merits according to the first merit to determine the reward, all officials and soldiers have meritorious, investigate and understand, make a book to the ministry, when the reward is promoted, according to the local rules for meritorious service, with the promotion of rewards, with the capture of the northern captives as the head, Liaodong Jurchen second.

At this time, the second assistant of the cabinet, Lu Tiaoyang, was ill and had been begging. The actual presiding cabinet vote is Zhang Siwei. He called it "a peculiar achievement". But the Wanli Emperor issued an edict, the first assistant Zhang Juzheng in his hometown thousands of miles away from the practice of the practice, he did not agree, said: the military department is sparse please record the merit sparse, must wait for the day of the Liaodong town to recall, if the Ministry of sparse resumption, and then the question will be copied, sealed in the emperor's edict, and then send someone to pass the first auxiliary, back and forth more than 5,000 miles, it is inevitable that the ministry of sparse stay in the time is too long, for this reason, please put the Liaodong Zhentang newspaper in the edict, the same day immediately send people, Xingchi south, according to the time calculation, Liaodong town sparse report must be checked and verified, before dare to play, but also have to wait for more than ten days, then Ju Zheng Gong read the emperor's edict after the recital, will be with the Liaodong town sparse report, has arrived in Beijing, the military department dredging in, you can play according to the plan, and implement it, which is cheaper than the matter. Emperor Wanli adopted Zhang Siwei's opinion.

There are two major doubts here: First, why did Zhang Siwei and other cabinet ministers not notice the "great victory" that could be seen at a glance with many suspicious points? Did they lack the slightest sense of judgment, or did they know that they did not break through the doubts, but did they act in accordance with the edict of the emperor who was in high spirits? Second, why did they violate the procedure for discussing merit and ask Zhang Juzheng to draft a vote in accordance with the edict, and then give the award according to the Liaodong Town Report -- the procedure for the Ministry of War's inscription? Is it simply "quick," or is it a trap for Zhang Juzheng?

On 11 April, a few days after Zhang Juzheng had his father buried in his hometown of Jingzhou, he received a report from an official of the Ministry of War who had sent an edict and sealed it. He said at the beginning: The work of Liaozuo is peculiar. The emperor's edict inquired that the situation of the performance had been submitted, but in the Guantang newspaper, there were words such as "the Tatars offended the barbarians and wanted to cross the river to live and live", although the Tatars' words may not be completely credible, but according to the Tang report, since they had seven or eight hundred horsemen, and they were plotting to invade, they must have been prepared, and as soon as our army came out, they fled with the wind and killed their heads, and there was no resistance, and most of the cattle and sheep and other things seized were the belongings of the herdsmen, which was different from the situation of the invasion. This situation is very suspicious. Perhaps they came in good faith, but the border general suspected that they were deceitful and did not examine them in detail, so they killed them. Now the oracle wants to give a special reward, although it is difficult to stop, but the reward and punishment for merit and crime, and the persuasion and punishment are related, in case the person who is captured is not the offender, and the reward is rich, it will open the gap between the side and the merit, and block the heart of the outside. It's not a matter of detail. In addition, Li Chengliang has been awarded many times, and it is no longer thin, in the past, there was no hereditary one in the shadow of the side of the Gong, and he must be hereditary in every shade, and they are all big officials above the third grade, and now if you want to thicken it again, you can only be knighted. In the old practice of the ancestors, the military ministers must be in the march, cut the generals and pull out the flag, and they will be knighted with the meritorious rate. According to reports, Li Chengliang did not lead his troops to become the enemy, as he did in the past when he defeated the barbarians at Pingyu Fort and captured Wang Gao of Jianzhou. And in the past, the great feats were just a reward for the shadow, but this time he was knighted, and the thickness did not match the actual performance. I have been in charge of the country for ten years, and I have worked hard to plan the town, and now I am really uneasy in my heart, so I dare not tell you my doubts. I hope that Fang Gong will be humble in his retrial, so as to be appropriate and convince people.

At the same time, Zhang Juzheng sent a letter to Liang Menglong, the governor of Jiliao, and Zhou Yong, the governor of Liaodong, asking them to verify.

Because Zhang Juzheng suspected that the "great victory" was a killing and surrendering merit, and the emperor's decree was very clear, he could not resist the decree. So in the "Edict to Reward the Meritorious Service of Liaodong", he left a living word for the future "overturning the case", saying: "The holy oracle wants to increase the reward, and it is not too much. Although there is a section on surrender, the minister did not see the town's nuclear survey in detail, according to the Tang newspaper, such as the general soldier Li Chengliang Su said that he was loyal and brave, and he repeatedly made miraculous achievements. The previous time to split the mountain, the ministry proposed to add a knight, and the minister wanted to leave this special ceremony for future achievements, so he did not dare to plan. "It is recommended to add Li Chengliang as a non-hereditary lord, Tao Chengyu, the chief soldier, Zhai Xiushang, the governor, Liang Menglong, the governor, Zhou Yong, the governor of the military department, and the squire Zeng Shengwu, Gao Guangxian, etc., each should be rewarded and promoted. He also said that the ministers of the cabinet should also be rewarded according to the holy decree, and he himself resigned because of his absence.

On the same day that Zhang Juzheng received the emperor's edict in Jingzhou, Lü Tiaoyang went to beg for the sixth time. A few days earlier, he had suffered a recurrence of lung disease, and the emperor had given him a few days off to recuperate. This time, the phlegm is surging, the audio-visual is not examined, the detailed chapters are sparsely suffering, the words are too much to talk to people, half of them are not saved, and they raise their pens to write, and they do not write a book. Then on the 22nd, he took a seventh rest.

By May 9, Governor Liang Menglong, Governor Zhou Yong, and Chief Military Officer Li Chengliang won a total of 476 levels of Tuman, Wanli Emperor's Imperial Gate, and Honglu Temple Xuanjuan Jieyin. The next day, the town of Liaodong was rewarded, the chief soldier Li Chengliang attacked a son of Yin, the hereditary commander of the guard, the guerrilla Tao Chengyu was promoted to the governor of the department, and the hereditary son of the Yin was a hundred households, the governor Liang Menglong, the son of Yin was put into prison to study, and the governor Zhou Yongsheng was the right deputy of the imperial history, and the reward was poor. The price of the horse is still 10,000 taels of silver, and the poor official will be rewarded, and Shang Shufang will have a difference with the silver coin of the former governor Zhang Xueyan at the right time. On the same day, Lu Tiaoyang was sealed in this chapter by the cabinet, and his name was almost listed, and he had neither been in the direct nor involved in falsehood, and asked for his release or recuperation, and the cabinet exempted him from signing all this chapter. Emperor Wanli ordered him to temporarily exempt his signature and pay as usual. From this, it is concluded that Lu Tiaoyang did not sign this time, and he was eager to decouple from the record, or he knew the operation behind Zhang Siwei and was unwilling to wade into this troubled water.

On the 11th, the Wanli Emperor Imperial Gate and hundreds of officials congratulated him on the victory in Liaodong. Immediately afterwards, it was to sue the temple and the ancestors, and the successive celebrations were very happy. On the sixth day of the seventh month, Lu Tiaoyang begged for permission.

Zhang Juzheng returned to the capital on 15 June. At this time, the wood has been completed, and all the rewards and celebrations of the "Changdingbao Victory" have been held, but as soon as Zhang Juzheng entered Beijing, he heard the discussion of this matter. During this period, the Liaodong patrol confirmed that it was a vain killing, and he did not dare to publicly ignore it, so he wrote a letter to Zhang Juzheng privately to ask for opinions on how to deal with it. Zhang Juzheng has been in the cabinet for more than 10 years, and he has been in the country for six or seven years, and he has extremely rich political experience and wisdom. The history books say that Zhang Juzheng is thousands of miles away, as in front of him. He saw that An Jiuyu's private messages were consistent with his secret analysis, and so far, all his doubts and judgments have been confirmed. He showed rare indignation, accusing his students, Governor Liang Menglong, and Governor Zhou Yong: "Why did you people in the matter carelessly judge to such a degree? Now that the reward has been awarded, it is difficult to re-discuss merit and sin, "but the reward, punishment, persuasion and punishment are so perverse, and it is very hateful." I would like to record the sparse manuscript and the book of An (Nine Domains) to read, fortunately only the secret remains".

Li Chengliang also quickly learned about the killing of his subordinates, and knew that Zhang Juzheng had always rewarded and punished clearly, so he wanted to resolve the matter and gave Zhang Juzheng a generous gift. After Zhang Juzheng refused, he was afraid that there would be anything wrong with the heavy gift returned, and he was also worried that Li Chengliang would be suspicious and felt that Zhang Juzheng was alienated from him, so he asked Governor Zhou Yong to meet with Li Chengliang and explain to him privately. He treats himself as a countryman, but he should be loyal and try his best to repay the country, that is, he rewards his confidant, not between ritual and literary communication. He doesn't know what I mean, he thinks he is estranged, and he thinks he is an outsider, so please explain what I mean, "to calm his heart and strengthen his will."

Zhang Juzheng was worried about the country and carefully guarded the generals. Li Chengliang was born in a family of Tieling Jiangmen, and he is still not obvious in middle age, and his career depends on Zhang Juzheng's wisdom and knowledge. "History of the Ming Dynasty" said that Zhang Juzheng used Li Chengliang to guard Liaodong, Qi Jiguang to guard Jimen, Chengliang fought the enemy, and the merit was so much that he was the earl, and Jiguang was well garrisoned, "the right is right, and the border is Yanran". In the fourth year of Longqing, Li Chengliang defeated the invading Tatar Xinai Department in Jinzhou with a deputy commander-in-chief, and became famous in a war, and then acted as the chief soldier, stationed in Jieguangning (North Town, Jinzhou, Liaoning), and trained the "Li Family Army" since then.

The south coast of Liaohai, from the Changbai Mountain to the Yalu River in the northeast, is active with Jurchen and other ethnic groups, and in the northwest is the powerful Mongolian ethnic group. After I answered the tribute, the northwest frontier of the Ming Dynasty was consolidated, and the northeast faced the threat of the Mongol Han Department, which claimed to have 60,000 people who controlled the strings, the most refined, and its first territory was barbarian and often coerced the three departments of Wuliang Ha to spy on Liaodong. And the Jianzhou Jurchens were also a great threat to the Ming Dynasty. Zhang Juzheng said in the letter to Fang Fengshi that Wang Gao was the commander of the right guard of Jianzhou, and he was brave and good at fighting, and he was a fierce enemy in Liaodong. In July of the second year of Wanli, Li Chengliang defeated Wang Gao's department, and successively beheaded more than 1,000 ranks, Wang Gao was captured, sent to Beijing by prison car, and sentenced to death. Li Chengliang entered the left capital and gave Shiyin.

Zhang Juzheng wrote a poem to chronicle his events:

Arrows were passed in front of Changbai Mountain, and Xianbei was riding like lightning.

The military book galloped last night, and the Son of Heaven ascended to the altar to fly the general.

- "Liaozuo Concert" (excerpt)

In December of the following year, more than 20,000 people from the Mongolian Taining Department invaded Pingyu Fort, Li Chengliang fought a bloody battle, vomited blood and could not report the battle, annihilated more than 200 enemies, and the Ming soldiers were also killed and wounded. Emperor Wanli wanted to be punished, Zhang Juzheng said, in the past, "the law of damaging the army was too strict, so the generals waited and watched, did not dare to be captured, but fortunately the army was unharmed, and now the Liaodong army killed and wounded four or five hundred people, and the bloody battle was a bloody battle. Emperor Wanli Emperor Jimen announced the edict, added Li Chengliang Prince Taibao, Yin Yizi Jinyi Wei hereditary is a thousand households, and the reward is eighty taels of silver.

Li Chengliang was born and died, Li Jiajun shook Liaodong, and its pleasures were also extraordinary, the courtyard was more than ten miles, the households were lined up one after another, and there were more than 2,000 concubines. The government and the opposition have always complained about him. When the matter of killing and surrendering happened, Zhang Juzheng has been trying to find a safe way to deal with it. In December of the sixth year of Wanli, Li Chengliang went out of the fortress for more than 200 miles, defeated the Taining Department in Dongchang Fort, Zhang Juzheng suddenly had an idea, he praised Li Chengliang for his surprise victory this time, and used Sun Bin to take the big beam, so that the Taining Department returned in embarrassment, which was very different from the previous Changding Fort to kill and surrender to invite merit.

At the beginning of the seventh year of Wanli, the military department gave Guangmao a follow-up discussion about the guerrilla Tao Chengyu of the Liaoyang car battalion, and it was appropriate to sit on the crime of killing and surrendering. The Wanli Emperor ordered the patrol to be carried out according to the Nine Domains of Yu Shi'an. An Jiuyu is under great pressure. Zhang Juzheng sent a letter to him, instructing him to distinguish the authenticity of his "war exploits" only on the basis of facts, so as to wait for the emperor's judgment to measure the size of his falsehood and reality as a punishment. Command him to make a quick investigation. Zhang Juzheng also told An Xunzhi that in the final analysis, Li Shuai's merits, revealing the sun and the moon, and rewarding themselves needless to say, even if the victory of Changdingbao is all false, the imperial court must be lenient with merit and doubts, and do not deepen the governance, why should the princes be like this?

In February, An Jiuyu investigated and reported that Tao Chengyu should be sentenced to a felony. However, the Ministry of War replied, but put forward a different view, saying that there was no solid evidence as to whether the Eastern Prisoners had surrendered by fraud or by sneak attack. In the end, the Ministry of War proposed that it was not a pity to deal with Tao Chengyu, but as soon as this voice spread, the waiyi applauded, and the power of the outside was uncompromising, so he persuaded the generals and encouraged the sergeants, and asked for dismissal to close the case.

He believes that this matter has a lot to do with the national system and military aircraft, and if it is punished, it will not only damage the majesty of the emperor, but also blow the morale of the generals. Zhang Juzheng weighed it again and again, and even did not hesitate to repeatedly discuss and conflict with the military department, and even took the risk of offending, dismissed Tao Chengyu, and all other officials, a total of 37 members, were dismissed, and all rewards were pursued. This matter is operated by Zhang Siwei, and it is also the only matter that is decided by the cabinet minister. Originally, during Zhang Juzheng's return to his hometown to bury his father, he still had to go back and forth 5,000 miles away for big and small things, and Zhang Juzheng drafted the decree, which made Zhang Siwei, who was the second assistant, very unhappy in his heart, which was obviously a contempt for him. And Zhang Juzheng investigated the murder case to the end, and he did not show any mercy to Zhang Siwei, so Zhang Siwei held a grudge. Therefore, Song Xuezhu said: The matter of Changding Fort "The dignity of the government and the soldiers has been disgraced." If you lose your dignity, you will have a lot of regrets, so Lu Gong (Lu Tiaoyang) is a beggar in the year, and Zhang Gong (Zhang Siwei) has endured shame in the government for five years. Jiangling died and the Duke (Zhang Siwei) was the country, and he sat back and watched the disaster and did not save him, could it be that this thing was in the chest and not turned into a thing"?

In May, the military department restored the nine regions of Shi'an to survey Haizhou, Dongchang and other forts, and made great victories, and Li Chengliang should be knighted. Zhang Juzheng said that Li Chengliang has repeatedly made military exploits, and the loyalty and courage festival is the crown of all generals for a while, and it is not an exaggeration to be knighted, and it is not a hereditary title. Emperor Wanli ordered Li Chengliang to be Ning Yuanbo, with 800 stone of Zhilu rice. "History of the Ming Dynasty: The Biography of Li Chengliang" commented: "The prosperity of Bian Shuai's martial arts has not been seen in 200 years. And Zhang Juzheng has clear rewards and punishments, and has played a vital role in protecting the generals.

After the death of Zhang Juzheng, the alliance between the inner court and the outer dynasty originally constructed by Feng Bao and Zhang Juzheng no longer existed, and the suppressed emperor's consciousness has been completely awakened, and Feng Bao is completely aware of this, he still relies on the accumulated power to control things, his henchman Jinyi commanded the same knowledge that Xu Jue was in the forbidden middle, as always, read the chapter on behalf of the people, drafted the edict, and the people close to Zhang Juzheng also approached Feng Bao through Xu Jue, causing Xu Jue to be angry. As the supreme Emperor Wanli of the Ninth Five-Year Plan, he had long wanted to take back the power of the emperor that belonged to him, and he hated Feng Bao and others for not knowing the current affairs. Zhang Siwei, who was the first assistant to the cabinet, turned against Zhang Juzheng's actions when the queen of the country, which made Wang Zhen, Zeng Xingwu and others, who were close to Zhang Juzheng, quite nervous.

At this juncture of change and immutability, the emperor's eldest son was born as a cardinal of transformation. The emperor's eldest son, Zhu Changluo, was born on August 11, the tenth year of Wanli, by Concubine Gong. At this time, it was only more than a month before Zhang Juzheng's death. Zhang Juzheng's coffin was brought back from Beijing at the end of July for burial, and his mother was returned to her hometown two days later under the guardianship of Si Li. The eldest son of Emperor Wanli, his fate is quite similar to that of his grandfather Emperor Longqing, because Emperor Wanli did not like his biological mother Wang, but loved Zheng Guifei, and loved Wu and Wu - the third son born to Zheng Guifei was very fond of him, and wanted to establish him as the crown prince, but the courtiers insisted on the orderliness of the young and the young, so it took more than ten years to establish the eldest son of the emperor as the crown prince. Later, there was a case of a smashing case. Wanli died, and he died only one month after ascending the throne due to the Red Pill case, and he also became the shortest-serving emperor of the Ming Dynasty and even all Chinese dynasties.

In mid-October, the imperial historian Cao Yikui impeached Wang Guoguang, the secretary of the ministry, and promoted his cousin Wang Qian to be the head of the ministry. The intention of this move is to crowd out Zhang Siwei. At this time, Emperor Wanli had personally taken charge of the government, and he was arbitrary about the ministers to stay, and he would not send the impeachment to the middle of the book, and also sent the clerical officer to Zhang Siwei's private residence to comfort him that he didn't have to mind. Shen Shixing was not sure which faction was stronger for a while, and out of instinct to take the opportunity to ascend to the throne, he planned to depose Wang Guoguang and send Wang Qian to him. Feng Bao proposed to use his fellow countryman and Zhang Juzheng's protégé Liang Menglong to replace him as the secretary of the ministry. Unexpectedly, this move caused chaos within Zhang Juzheng's cronies. It turned out that Wang Zhang, the servant of the Ministry of Officials, promised that once Wang Guoguang was dismissed, Zeng Shengwu, the secretary of the Ministry of Works, would be appointed as the secretary of the Ministry of Officials, but halfway out of Cheng to bite the gold, Feng Bao proposed to use Liang Menglong as the Ministry of Officials, Wang Zhan did not dare to deny, Zeng Xingwu fell out with Wang Seal for this. Zhang Siwei, who was in an embarrassing situation, took retreat as advance, and even resigned from the four sparse resigns, and at first said what the minister was referring to, but he did not know the details, "If the words are deceitful, the ministers will not dare; if the words are mediocre, the ministers will be more than enough", and then said that he has not slept at night, the eclipse has suddenly decreased, the forbidden court is close at hand, and it is difficult to enter and exit. After Emperor Wanli repeatedly comforted and stayed, he reinstated, and the imperial history Zhang Wenda reinstated Zhang Siwei. Emperor Wanli was furious and criticized his desecration. Zhang Siwei was very embarrassed, and at the same time as Chen resigned, he sent Feng Bao a lot of money through Xu Jue and Zhang Dashou, and Feng Bao's hatred was slightly relieved. Shen Shi Xing planned to demote Zhang Wenda by three levels and send it to the governor of the Fujian Transportation Department to appease Zhang Siwei. But Zhang Siwei will not let go of the people who excluded him, just as he will not let go of Zhang Juzheng, he hated Shen Shixing's participation in attacking his own title, and said to Shen Shixing's doorman: "The prime minister is like the running of the sky, there must be spring and summer, why are you persecuting me!" He also instigated his protégé to attack Shen Shixing. Shen Shixing saw that the comer was not good, and he began to be on duty in the cabinet in November, recuperating at home, and Emperor Wanli sent Qian Zeng, the envoy of the Tai Hospital, to diagnose and treat, and saw that Shen Shixing's six veins were slippery and his limbs were weak. Shen Shixing invoked the rule that a Beijing official should be suspended from paying for three months after he had been ill for three months, saying that although he was less than three months, his position was important, so please suspend his payment. The old script of the dispute between the first assistant and the second assistant was staged again.

Considering that Zhang Juzheng and Feng Bao had been operating in the court for more than ten years and had deep roots, Zhang Siwei adopted the method of first outlining the periphery, one to observe the reactions of the court officials, and the other to measure the intentions of Emperor Wanli. After he learned that Emperor Wanli no longer trusted Feng Bao, he revealed this information. Yushi Jiangdongzhi took the lead in exposing Xu Jue, saying that Xu Jue had escaped to Feng Baomen without permission because of his crimes, and later abused his military position, entered the forbidden court of the palace without permission, and conspired to be expelled immediately. He also said that Liang Menglong, the secretary of the Ministry of War, first used 30,000 taels of silver to bribe Xu Jue to Feng Bao, and then hired his granddaughter Xu to Feng Bao's younger brother, so he got the position of secretary of the Ministry of Justice. Emperor Wanli was sparse, so Zhang Siwei drafted a decree, and said angrily: "The slaves have stolen my prestige for a long time, and they will be punished urgently." So Xu Jue was sent to prison for strict interrogation, and then sent to the Criminal Department to be beheaded; At that time, the Queen Mother had returned to power, and Feng Bao's two major backers were suddenly lost. The old eunuchs of the East Palace, Zhang Jing and Zhang Cheng, talked about Feng Bao's evil deeds in the past. Zhang Cheng was originally a eunuch favored by Emperor Wanli, but because Feng Bao was dissatisfied with him, Emperor Wanli rebuked him and actually used it to secretly spy on Feng Bao. After Zhang Juzheng's death, Zhang Cheng returned to the palace and often told Emperor Wanli about Feng Bao's friendship with Zhang Juzheng, greed and wantonness, and said that their treasures were richer than the royal ones. Emperor Wanli was originally greedy for money and lustful, and his heart was moved. Zhang Cheng secretly revealed the emperor's dissatisfaction with Feng Bao to Zhang Siwei's close people. Zhang Whale is a native of Xincheng, originally under the name of the eunuch Zhang Hong (when he first entered the palace, he must vote for a big man, which is called his name). He served Emperor Wanli for a long time, after Wanli ascended the throne, Feng Bao did things, Zhang Whale's interests were damaged, and after Zhang Juzheng died, he made suggestions for Emperor Wanli to get rid of Feng Bao. Zhang Hong is Zhang Whale's own official, and after learning about it, he privately dissuaded him: "Si Li Feng Gong's senior, a backbone person, keep him for many miles." Zhang Whale didn't listen, and repeatedly asked Emperor Wanli to make a decision and let Feng Bao's private house be idle. Emperor Wanli hesitated, thinking that although Feng Bao was hateful, he had been born since he had served for nearly twenty years, and he was a little unbearable, and said: "If the great companion comes to the palace, I don't care." Zhang Whale said: "If there is a will, Feng will not dare to disobey it." ”

At this time, Zhang Siwei instructed Tongli's protégé and imperial history Li Zhi to expose Feng Bao's twelve major crimes, and Emperor Wanli surrendered Feng Bao to the imperial palace and sent him to Nanjing to live idle, and his brother Feng You and nephew Feng Bangning were dismissed and imprisoned. Zhang Dashou and others who descended small fires sent filial piety to the tomb. On the eighth day of December, the Wanli Emperor sent an edict to the military department, and the East Factory was headed by Zhang Jing, the eunuch of the ceremonial eunuch, and ordered him to write an edict with him; on the same day, he began to confiscate the property of Feng Bao, his brother Feng You, and his nephew Feng Bangning. It was Zhang Whale who carried out the raid. Feng Bao died in Nanjing and was buried in the Imperial Factory in Liudu. According to the eunuch Liu Ruoyu, this place is "lush with forests and trees, towering and beautiful cities, and the real sky is so loyal to the ministers". Feng You and Feng Bangning died in prison. Xu Jue and Zhang Dashou's son sent a smoke miasma to the region of Yongshu. Zhang Hong died in the twelfth year of Wanli, and Zhang Cheng was in charge of the ceremonial supervisor. Zhang Juzheng's cronies Wang Zheng, Zeng Xingwu and other so-called Chu parties were all expelled from the party, and the situation changed dramatically.

Afterwards, Zhang Siwei sent a letter to Zhang Jiayin, the governor of Zhejiang, saying that his appointment as the first assistant coincided with the autumn of disasters in the Quartet and people's resentment. "Friends and traitors are old, dare to violate the public opinion of the world, and are not afraid of the sun. Dazai is gone, that is, he intends to take advantage of the gap and arrange it to reach it, and the machine is very poisonous and dense. The servant has decided to retreat, but he does not mean that the saint will see his treachery, so he will not allow the servant to go. And the group of small people is resentful of each other, treacherous, and ugly.

Emperor Wanli sincerely retained Zhang Siwei and Shen Shixing, not because he valued the talents of the two, but because he knew that the two of them had been "suffering for a long time", and he needed to borrow the hands of his ministers to achieve the purpose of venting his anger at the late Yuanfu Zhang Juzheng.
