According to Huawei's official WeChat account, on November 8, Huawei announced that the "2023 Olympus Awards" will be open to the world. This year, we will focus on the two major problems in the field of data enablement and resilience technologies, and award 1 million yuan for each problem.
Established by Huawei in 2019, the OlympusMons Awards aim to drive basic theoretical research in the field of global data storage, break through key technical problems, accelerate the industrialization of scientific research achievements, and achieve win-win cooperation between industry, academia and research. Since its establishment, the Olympus Awards have attracted more than 180 scholars from 60+ research teams around the world, and a total of 3 Olympus Awards and 9 Olympus Pioneer Awards have been awarded. The Olympus Awards have become one of the most influential professional awards in the storage industry.

In the face of the emergence of various new non-volatile media and the development of new high-speed network protocols, we will study storage architecture innovation, media application innovation and storage media breakthroughs, and build a storage system with the ultimate cost performance per bit.
In the face of diverse equipment and new application loads, high-speed data processing requirements, and new trends in data resilience, we will study data enablement and governance technologies, data resilience and high-reliability technologies for new scenarios such as AI, and build data enablement and resilience technologies for emerging services.

In 2023, two Olympus Awards and five Olympus Pioneer Awards will be awarded, and the winners/teams will establish technical communication channels with Huawei and receive scientific research assistance. Each of the above two puzzles is set with a prize of 1 million yuan. The selection will be based on both technical and commercial price considerations. In terms of technical value, it is necessary to meet the requirements of the Olympusian problem; Technological innovation should solve problems in the field through new theories, new methods, new technologies, new principles, etc.; The maturity of technology depends on the degree to which the results form production capacity or reach practical application. In terms of business value, three aspects will be considered: applicability, that is, the results have transformation and application value; Scalability, the results have great development prospects and scalable potential; Economic benefits, the results have potential social or economic benefits.
According to Shenzhen Business Daily, in 2020, Xu Wenwei, director of Huawei, said in public about the Olympus Award that innovation is in Huawei's DNA, and that Huawei and academia will work together to promote the commercial implementation of scientists' research results, and achieve two-way energy exchange and gain through the challenge of world-class problems.
In 2022, the team led by Prof. Onur Mutlu from ETH Zurich won the 2022 Olympus Award for its research on data-centric network-storage-computing fusion systems, innovative adaptive optimization algorithms, and acceleration of technical iteration of storage architectures. Prof. Hai Jin's team from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Weisheng Zhao's team from Beihang University, Prof. Miao Xiangshui's team from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Prof. Jian Liu's team from Zhejiang University won the 2022 Olympus Pioneer Award.
The recommended application time is from November 8, 2023 to January 10, 2024, and the results will be reviewed from January 11, 2024 to February 2024, and the award ceremony will be held in April 2024.
