Sima Yi, the deposed emperor of the Jin Dynasty: an emperor who was impotent, it was really indefensible

author:Huaxia

"The eldest husband cannot live forever, and he should be left behind for ten thousand years!" This well-known "famous saying" of Chinese history comes from the mouth of Huan Wen, a powerful minister of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. In fact, when Huan Wen, who was in a position of great power, said this, his intention to stand on his own behalf of Jin had already been revealed.

He had originally planned to establish "immortal" military feats through the Third Northern Expedition in the third year of Taihe (368), and naturally seize the throne of Sima Shi when he returned to the dynasty after victory. However, man was not as good as heaven, and as a result, he fell into a defeat and returned with a gray face.

Although the Northern Expedition was defeated, Huan Wen's intention to usurp the Jin Dynasty remained. However, Huan Wen understood, "Not building an immortal honor is not enough to calm the people's hopes!" Therefore, in addition to the actions of Yi Yin and Huo Guang (that is, abolishing the old emperor and establishing a new emperor), he has "no way to establish great authority and suppress the four seas".

Of course, to depose the emperor always needs to find a plausible reason, and the Jin Emperor Sima Yi has been the empress dowager since Xingning ascended the throne in the third year (365), and Sima Yi has always respected Huan Wen, cautiously observed the tao, and has not made any mistakes. Huan Wen then "falsely accused sima yi of having impotence" and engaged in homosexuality with the three internal pets of Xianglong, Jihao, and Zhu Lingbao, and also said that the three sons born to Sima Yi's concubines Tian And Meng were actually the blood of these three internal pets, and now Sima Yi wanted to "build a crown prince and tilt the imperial foundation". At the same time, people were sent to spread these words to the people, and for a while there was a lot of discussion between the government and the public, "it is impossible to judge their falsehood."

In November of the sixth year of Taihe (371), Huan Wen commanded a large army arrived in Jiankang, Kyoto, and sent someone to send the edict that had been written in the name of the empress dowager to Empress Chu, who was helpless and forced to sign in favor of the abolition. Therefore, Huan Wen gathered hundreds of officials in the court and announced the empress dowager's edict of abolition. Sima Yi was deposed as the King of the East Sea, and Sima Yu, the Prince of Huiji, succeeded to the throne as Emperor Jianwen. Huan Wen also sent Liu Heng, a squire on a loose horse, into the palace to confiscate the national seal, forcing Sima Yi to leave the palace immediately. It was mid-autumn, the weather was still relatively warm, and Sima Yi "wore a white cha single dress, stepped down from the West Hall, and took a calf out of the Shenhu Gate." The courtiers bowed their heads and bowed their heads." Huan Wen ordered his subordinates to lead hundreds of soldiers to escort Sima Yi back to the former Donghai King's Mansion. After a year, he was demoted to the duke of Haixi County.

Sima Yi took the initiative to "cooperate" with Huan Wen and honestly "retired" due to impotence. At the end of the second year of Xian'an (372), someone suddenly came to his residence, saying that there was a secret edict from the empress dowager, and welcomed him to restore the palace to the throne. I don't know whether someone wanted to use his deposed emperor as a cover to do "extraordinary things" or whether Huan Wen had called someone to deliberately test him, but Sima Yi was not moved, and said frankly: "I have offended this, fortunately the imperial court is lenient, how dare I act rashly." If the empress dowager has decreed that I be reinstated, and there should be a palace envoy, why are you the only one who comes here without evidence and no evidence, you must want to cause trouble. So the people who came hurried away. After this, Sima Yi was even more "deeply worried about disasters, but Du Sai was smart and thoughtless", drinking and having fun all day. If a child is born in the palace, the child is immediately drowned to confirm that he is really impotent. As a result, Sima Yi lived for another fifteen years until he died of illness and finally died.

We know that to this day, men all over the world are afraid of others saying that they are sexually incompetent (even if they are really incompetent), saying that they can't say that they can't do it, that is, they can't say that this is not ok. But Sima Yi obediently admitted that he was impotent and did not make any defense, although he had three sons before he was deposed, and after his depose, another child was born. We may wish to make a hypothesis, if Sima Yi listens to the edict of the abolition and declares his abdication on the spot, but I do not have impotence, or when the King of the East Sea or the Duke of Haixi County, he claims that his sexual function is no problem, or the palace has given birth to a child and happily raises him. Just think, in this way, he has almost no other possibilities except for the landing of the head.

Therefore, under an authoritarian regime, what illness a political figure suddenly suffers from does not require any "malfunction" in his own body, but often out of some political need, designated by the ruler of power, saying that you have to be sick, specifying what disease you "suffer" from, specifying what disease you "suffer" from, you can neither confess, nor argue, nor can you deny. Even if you are "majestic", but once you are designated to "suffer" from impotence, then you have to "suffer" from impotence, and as if you really have impotence. This just confirms a popular saying in the official arena: say you can do it, you can do it, you can't do it; say you can't do it, you can't do it, you can't do it. Of course, when you say you can't do it, you have to verbally admit that you really can't do it, and you really can't do it in action, or even pretend that you can't do it at any cost.
