Recently, the delivery ceremony of Wanhua Chemical's 200,000 tons/year maleic anhydride plant was held in the east area of Wanhua Yantai Industrial Park!
It is reported that Wanhua's maleic anhydride production unit will take the lead in adopting a new production process. Compared to traditional technologies, the production efficiency is higher and the energy consumption is lower. Conser, the patentee of the process technology, estimates that the plant can reduce energy consumption by 2.5 to 3.0 megawatts per hour. Assuming 8,000 hours of annual production, energy savings of 20,000 to 24,000 MWh per year are expected.
Project Overview
Wanhua Chemical Group Co., Ltd.'s 200,000 tons/year maleic anhydride project is located in the east area of Wanhua Yantai Industrial Park, Yantai Economic and Technological Development Zone, with a total investment of about 1.8 billion yuan, of which about 180 million yuan is invested in environmental protection. After the completion of the project, the design annual output.
MAN Energy Solutions, a world-renowned giant of high-end equipment and marine engines, has completed the construction of the world's largest molten salt reactor for Wanhua Chemical's new maleic anhydride plant.
The reactors, each weighing 655 tons, have been loaded onto the 135-meter-long "Excelsior". The reactors departed from Deggendorf, Germany, traveled across the Danube River to the Romanian port of Constanta, where they were transported by ocean-going vessels to their destination, Yantai, Shandong Province.
Wanhua Chemical will use these three molten salt reactors to produce maleic anhydride. The chemical product is used in the production of PBAT (polybutylene adipate terephthalate), a raw material for the production of biodegradable plastics. This cooperation will help Wanhua Chemical build one of the world's largest maleic anhydride plants.
Clariant announced that it has been awarded a major contract by Wanhua Chemical Group to supply catalysts for its new maleic anhydride project, SynDane® catalysts.
Project Background
At present, degradable plastics are mainly divided into PLA, PBS, PCL, PHA, PHB, etc. according to the raw materials, among which PBS has become one of the most industrialized biodegradable plastics with low price, excellent mechanical properties and good processing heat resistance, and the basic raw material for the production of PBS succinic acid is maleic anhydride.
After the completion of the maleic anhydride project, the energy coupling between the devices can be realized while the maleic anhydride product brings economic benefits, and the by-product steam of the maleic anhydride device can be used most effectively to achieve energy conservation and environmental protection, which has good economic and social benefits.
Based on the above background, Wanhua Chemical built a 200,000 tons/year maleic anhydride project, and on September 30, 2022, it filed a 60,000-ton-per-year polybutylene succinate (PBS) project in Shandong Province. The project can achieve both environmental protection and energy recycling, which is of positive significance for plastic pollution control.
