Back in 2020, when the Xbox Series X and S were launched, the S model was advertised as a cheaper alternative for those who didn't want to buy an Xbox Series X. Although it doesn't come with a disc drive and has a bit of a stretch in performance compared to the Series X, the Xbox Series S's low cost is arguably the best way to experience the Xbox ecosystem. Now, with the price rising in a certain area, fans believe that Microsoft has betrayed the original purpose of this console.
The Enemy initially reported that Microsoft raised the price of the Xbox Series S in Brazil last week only. The Xbox Series S, which previously sold for between R$2,000 and R$2,500 in Brazil, has now nearly doubled in price to R$3,599. For comparison, this makes the price of the Series S almost on par with the price of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. As for the reason for this price increase, Microsoft has not given a specific reason so far.
Brazil has historically had a huge gaming market. Only time will tell if Microsoft wants to explain more about why it made this move, but for now, the decision has been met with widespread negative responses on social media.
