According to the planned total duration and latest progress of each railway project, we can have a general understanding of the high-speed (fast) railway planned to be built in the next 3 years (i.e., 2024-2026), and the project with a current speed ≥of 200 kilometers and above can also be called a road network high-speed railway. According to statistics, about 8,000 kilometers of lines are expected to be completed and put into operation in the next three years.
In 2024, more than 20 lines are expected to be completed, including 3 inter-provincial high-speed rail lines will be completed in whole or in part, these three are the Zhuangzhai to Lankao section of the Lunan high-speed railway passing through Shandong and Henan, which has a short mileage of less than 50 kilometers; There are also Shanghai-Suzhou-Lake high-speed railways passing through Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang, as well as the Sichuan and Chongqing sections of the Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway, specifically the Chongqing-Yibin section.
Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway Chongqing-Yibin section
The number distribution of other lines in the eastern, central and western regions is relatively balanced, among which in the eastern part of Zhejiang Province, there are the Tonglu to Wenzhou section of the Hangzhou-Wenzhou high-speed railway and the Jiande-Quzhou section of the Hangzhou-Quzhou high-speed railway, the Weiyan high-speed railway from Weifang to Yantai in Shandong Province, and the Meizhou-Longchuan section of the Longlong high-speed railway and the Shantou-Shantou south to Shantou section of the Shantou high-speed railway in Guangdong Province. There are two in Anhui Province in the central region, namely the Xuanji high-speed railway from Xuancheng to Jixi and the Chizhou-Huangshan high-speed railway from Chizhou to Huangshan, and the Jingjing high-speed railway from Jingzhou to Jingmen in Hubei Province.
In the western region, there are the Nanyu Intercity Railway from Nanning to Yulin in Guangxi, the Yinchuan to Huinong section of the Baoyin High-speed Railway in Ningxia, the Nanchong-Bazhong section of the Hanbanan Railway in Sichuan Province and the Zhenjiangguan to Huangshengguan section of the Sichuan-Qingdao Railway, and the Zhongchuan Airport to Wuwei section of the Lanzhang 34-line Railway in Gansu Province. In addition, Heilongjiang Province in the northeast region is also expected to usher in the completion of the Hai-Yi high-speed railway.
Although the number of proposed lines in 2025 will be less than in 2024, the mileage of lines planned to be completed and opened to traffic will be more than in 2024. Among them, there are also 3 inter-provincial high-speed railways, namely the Shenbai high-speed railway in Liaoning and Jilin provinces, the Jidayuan high-speed railway passing through Inner Mongolia and Shanxi provinces, and the Baotou-Huinong section of the Baoyin high-speed railway passing through Inner Mongolia and Ningxia.
Guangzhan high-speed railway
Other lines are distributed in the eastern, central and western regions, among which Hebei Province in the eastern region has the Shihengcang Port Intercity Railway Hengshui to Huangye Port section completed, Zhejiang Province has Wenling to Yuhuan Wenyu Railway completed, Guangdong Province has Guangzhou to Zhanjiang Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-speed Railway. The central region has the Anhui section of the Hefei-Xinyi high-speed railway in Anhui Province; There are 2 in Hubei Province, namely the Wuyi section of the Shanghai-Chongqing high-speed railway and the Yichang-Zhengwan high-speed railway line.
In the western region, there is the Chongqing-Xiangxiang high-speed railway from Chongqing to Qianjiang, Shaanxi Province has the Xi'an-Yan'an West Extension High-speed Railway, Guizhou Province has the Panxing High-speed Railway from Panzhou to Xingyi, and Guangxi has the Chongzuo-Pingxiang Intercity Railway.
In 2026, more than 10 railways will be completed, including 3 inter-provincial high-speed rail lines, namely the Xiongshang high-speed railway passing through Hebei, Shandong and Henan provinces, the Xi'an-Shiyan high-speed railway located in Shaanxi and Hubei provinces, and the Yinchuan-Bayanhot railway passing through Inner Mongolia and Ningxia.
Xikang high-speed railway
In the distribution of other lines, the eastern and western regions are relatively few, only the Beichen to Binhai new section of the Jingbin Intercity Railway in Tianjin, and the Jibin High-speed Railway from Jinan to Binzhou in Shandong Province; In the western region, Shaanxi Province has the Xikang high-speed railway from Xi'an to Ankang; Guangxi has the Yulin-Cenxi section of the South-Shenzhen High-speed Railway; In addition, Heilongjiang Province in the northeast region will also have the Harbin-Tieli section of the Haihai high-speed railway.
There are relatively more railways to be built in the central region, such as Anhui Province in the central region, which is expected to have three lines put into operation, namely the Huaisu-Bengbu Huaisu-Bengbu intercity railway, the Fusu-Huai intercity railway from Fuyang to Suzhou (Huaibei), and the Chaoma intercity railway from Chaohu to Ma'anshan; Henan Province is expected to have the Pingdingshan-Luohe-Zhoukou high-speed railway, and Hubei Province has the Xiangyang-Jingmen Xiangjing high-speed railway.
Panxing high-speed railway
The above is the regional distribution of the railway to be built in the next three years, and if you look at the analysis of the standard structure of the technical grade of the line, a considerable part of the line is a high-standard high-speed railway line with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, and the standard speed of 250 kilometers per hour is only Nanchong to Bazhong Railway, Jidayuan High-speed Railway, Shiheng Canggang Intercity Railway, Baoyin High-speed Railway, Panxing High-speed Railway, Chongping Intercity Railway, Jingbin Intercity Railway Beichen to Binhai New Section, Haihai High-speed Railway. The standard speed of 200 kilometers per hour is only the Yinbayan branch line of the Baoyin high-speed railway.
Finally, there are 2 items that need to be explained, one of which is that the above lines only count the new lines under construction with a speed of 200 kilometers per hour and above, and do not include the Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Line and Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen intercity railways in the Yangtze River Delta region; Second, with the imminent start of construction of some lines in the past two years, it is expected that there will be a corresponding increase in the number of railways to be built in the next three years.
Of course, due to the great uncertainty in the construction of the railway, the completion of the above lines is for reference only, and the final opening time of the line shall prevail!
