author:艮岳轩

Hello everyone, I'm Gen Yuexuan, a general collector. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, for the needs of economic development and publicity, the number of stamps issued increased, providing collectors with more choices. However, due to various reasons, the stamps issued by New China have been revoked many times, thus creating some wrong stamps in New China like unintentionally inserting willows, Gen Yuexuan first listed some famous rare stamps, namely:

What went wrong? How do you tell the difference between a correct version and a wrong version? Next, Gen Yuexuan will take you to talk about its ins and outs.

The protagonist of this issue, Ji 54, "The Fifth Congress of the International Federation of Students" is a commemorative stamp issued by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the People's Republic of China on September 4, 1958 (the time of issuance of the revised version) in order to congratulate the convening of the Fifth Congress of the International Federation of Students. The two designs of the 5th Congress of the International Student Federation are identical. The bottom of the stamp features a silhouette of Tiananmen Square with "1958" and the Arabic numeral "5" on the top, while the main image shows the emblem of the International Student Federation.

The name of the conference was wrong

The reason for the issuance of this set of stamps was January 13, 1958, when the Beijing Daily published the news that the "Fifth World Student Congress" would be held in Beijing in September. On August 21, 1958, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications announced that a set of two stamps commemorating the congress would be issued on September 1. The design of this set of stamps was completed in February, and the name printed on the stamps was "The Fifth World Student Congress", and the original design was only a domestic postage of 8 cents. The person in charge of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League suggested that it would be advisable to increase the face value of an international letter for the use of delegates at meetings. Since 22 cents is the international postage at that time, this face value is added.

Since the conference was renamed the "Fifth Congress of the International Federation of Students" at that time, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued an urgent telegram on August 28 informing that the sale of the stamps had been suspended and that the stamps that had been issued to various places should be withdrawn. Subsequently, the notice and on September 4, the official issuance of the commemorative stamps named "The Fifth Congress of the International Student Association", the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications on August 28 urgently telegraphed the whole country to stop issuing this set of stamps, and revised and printed on the opening day of the conference, that is, on September 4. As a result of the failure of some post offices to receive the messages in a timely manner, a small number of misprinted stamps have flowed into the community. According to the archives, 176 stamps with a face value of 8 cents and 118 stamps with a face value of 22 cents could not be recovered.

As can be seen from the design of the following set of stamps, the original signature of April 21, 1958 has a face value of 8 cents and is not numbered. The 22-point specimen was completed on July 10, 1958, with the number and other information.

This set of stamps was originally planned to be issued on September 1, 1958, and in the "Compilation of Documents of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the People's Republic of China" published on August 21, 1958, No. 9 document, the issuance information of this set of stamps and the design of 8 cents face value stamps were published.

At this time, this set of stamps had been distributed throughout the country, and on the evening of August 28, when the stamps were about to be issued, the stamp issuing office found that the name of the stamp did not match the name of the conference. After learning from the Central Committee of the League, the general situation is as follows:

In the past, the four International Student Association Congresses were held under the name of "The Xth World Student Congress". However, in order to accurately express the nature of the conference and avoid the attacks of some reactionary student associations, the name of this session was changed to "The Fifth Congress of the International Federation of Students" in order to accurately express the nature of the conference and avoid the attacks of some reactionary student associations.

In order to avoid political mistakes, the General Post Office quickly took two measures: one was to send urgent telegrams on August 28 and 30 respectively to inform the suspension and withdrawal of this set of stamps; The second is to obtain the consent of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, change the name of the stamp and reprint it.

After the efforts of the printing house, the plate was remade and the signature sample was printed on August 31, and it took only three days to print some of the stamps. The new revised stamp was issued in small quantities on the opening day of the session on 4 September.

However, there are a very small number of places that do not sell in advance according to the issuance date, resulting in the outflow of a small number of stamps printed with the "Fifth World Student Congress", and the face value of 22 cents stamps is not much used (the face value stamps are mainly used on air registered mail), and there are very few people who buy them, and the outflow is also very small, and the odd goods can be lived.

In fact, in the reply letter of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League at that time, it was clearly stated that it was agreed to design the commemorative stamp of the "Fifth Congress of the Federation of Students". However, the official statement of the name of the meeting in the reply did not attract the attention of the Stamp Issuing Bureau.

At this point, a misvote turmoil has finally subsided. According to later statistics, this set of stamps in Inner Mongolia Baotou Post and Telecommunications Bureau affiliated to the Xihelou branch of the sale of more than 200 pieces of 8 points face value in advance, Beijing 32 branches and other similar situations, failed to recover 176 stamps of 8 points face value, 22 points face value of 118 pieces.

If you look closely, you will find some details: the reprinted commemorative stamp of the "Fifth Congress of the International Student Federation", the design and face value remain unchanged, the color of the brush has been slightly changed, the first 8-cent ticket has been changed from orange to red, and the second 22-cent ticket has been changed from green to apple green.

summary

Strictly speaking, this set of erroneous votes should not be called a "Federation of Students" wrong votes, because its erroneous name is "The Fifth World Student Congress", and there is no word "Federation of Students" at all. The "Fifth Congress of the International Federation of Students" (i.e., the abbreviation of "International Federation of Students") is the correct name. It's just that the collecting world has become accustomed to it, but it has become the name of the main ticket but has a common name of "wrong ticket". This is like the name of Arabic numerals, which were originally invented by the ancient Indians, then passed to Europe by the Arabs, and then modernized by the Europeans. At that time, information was blocked, and people mistakenly thought that it was invented by the Arabs, so people called it "Arabic numerals".

The full set of "Student Federation" wrong tickets is of high value and scarce, and not every collector can have it, after all, the number of outflows is too small. There are very few single letters that can be sold, if you can collect the two wrong tickets in sets, the probability is even lower, don't expect to send the envelope, it is even rarer, of course, all have, it is really valuable.

All right! Today, "Gen Yue Xuan" will share it with you here, thank you very much for your patience to read this article.
