Cai Wenji's story

Cai Yan (蔡琰), courtesy name Wenji, was the only daughter of Cai Yong, a famous scholar of the Eastern Han Dynasty. She is erudite, proficient in musical rhythms, and can play the guqin. She married Wei Zhongdao, a native of Hedong, and had no children, and two years later her husband died and returned to her mother's family.

At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, when the world was in chaos, she was plundered by the warlord Dong Zhuo's subordinates Li Dai and Guo Feng, and then exiled to the Southern Xiongnu, forced to become a concubine of the Xiongnu Zuoxian King, and after twelve years of nomadic life, she gave birth to two sons.

In the twelfth year of Jian'an (207 AD), because Cao Cao and Cai Yong were friendly, Cao Cao pitied him for having nothing to rely on, so he sent someone to redeem Cai Wenji with heavy money. So Cai Wenji endured the pain and tears of parting ways with her two sons, and turned back three times in one step.

Returning from the Xiongnu, Cao Cao married Wen Ji to Dong Qi, a Chen liu, and made Dong Qi a minor official in Tuntian, and Wen Ji's family finally lived a stable life.

Later, dong qi was beheaded according to the law for violating the law, and Cai Wenji desperately went to plead with Cao Cao, her words were mournful and heartbroken, and Cao Cao pardoned her husband's capital crime for her courage and sorrow.

In order to repay Cao Cao's kindness to their family, she spared no effort, slept and forgot to eat and copied four hundred ancient books to Cao Cao, and these manuscripts, exquisite calligraphy, did not have any mistakes.

Cai Wenji was a famous female poet of the Eastern Han Dynasty in China 1,800 years ago, she wrote many literary works, but only two "Poems of Sorrow and Indignation" were handed down, one was five words and the other was a riot. There is also a piano song lyric "Hu Di Eighteen Beats", which is a long narrative poem that expresses her suffering experience and rich and complex inner world.
