On that late autumn day, Peng Dehuai called Deng Hua of the 13th Corps and told him that he had submitted to the Central Military Commission and Chairman Mao for approval to set up a volunteer army organ on the basis of the 13th Corps organ.

For Deng Hua, this order came suddenly, and he was a little surprised, because President Peng had not communicated with him before. However, when faced with General Peng's inquiry about whether there were any difficulties, Deng Hua did not hesitate to assure General Peng that the 13th Corps had no difficulties and resolutely obeyed the organizational arrangements.

Why did President Peng set up a volunteer army organ on the basis of the 13th Corps? We need to start with the background of the 13th Corps' entry into Korea.

On October 8, 1950, Deng Hua was appointed commander and political commissar of the 13th Corps, and then led the 38th, 39th, 40th, 42nd, and 66th Corps and artillery, totaling about 250,000 people, into Korea.

In fact, the entry of troops of this size into the DPRK is a very complex task. However, under the strong leadership of Deng Hua, whether it was the organizational preparation before the war or the preparation of the battle plan after entering the DPRK, especially the concealed march of the troops in batches, Deng Hua commanded it in an orderly manner.

It can be said that the troops did not get chaotic in their busyness, which fully demonstrated Deng Hua's military literacy and the organizational planning ability of the XPCC organs. General Manager Peng was very satisfied with all the work of the 13th Corps in entering the DPRK.

In fact, Peng Dehuai had already dispatched a small number of capable generals in Beijing to form a small team. His plan was to form a volunteer army organ based on this small group after entering the DPRK.

However, when he entered the DPRK, he found that compared with the organs of the 13th Corps, the work efficiency of this small group was still somewhat different.

More importantly, the main force to enter the DPRK first was the 13th Corps. Therefore, Mr. Peng believes that from the perspective of familiarizing himself with the troops, and considering the organizational and planning capabilities of the 13th Corps organs, the best choice for establishing a volunteer army organ is to base it on the 13th Corps organs.

After mature thinking, General Peng reported directly to the Central Military Commission and Chairman Mao, put forward this proposal, and it was quickly approved.

After that, Mr. Peng talked to Deng Hua and explained his ideas to him. Originally, he was also going to do some ideological work for Deng Hua. But unexpectedly, Deng Hua did not hesitate at all, and directly expressed to Peng Dehuai that he resolutely obeyed the organizational arrangement, which made President Peng feel very gratified, and also saw Deng Hua's mind and courage.

In fact, during the revolutionary war years, there was not much intersection between Peng Dehuai and Deng Hua. During the Red Army period, Peng Dehuai was in the Third Red Army and Deng Hua was in the Red First Army, and the two had no chance to fight together.

During the Anti-Japanese War, Deng Hua served as the political commissar of the regiment in the 115th Division, and Peng Dehuai served as the deputy commander-in-chief of the Eighth Route Army headquarters, and the two had a large difference in positions, plus Deng Hua had been fighting on the front line and had no chance of contact with Peng Dehuai.

During the Liberation War, Peng Dehuai had been fighting in the northwest, while Deng Hua was fighting in the northeast, and there was no intersection. Therefore, Peng Dehuai did not know much about Deng Hua.

However, the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea brought the two people together. When he first entered the DPRK, Peng Dehuai was deeply impressed by Deng Hua, and he told the staff officers around him that Deng Hua, a comrade, had the overall situation in his heart, could do great things, and would be a person who could fight big battles in the future.

It can be said that this incident at the beginning of the DPRK laid the foundation for the deep friendship of the two old revolutionary comrades-in-arms throughout their lives.

It turns out that the relationship between the two comrades in arms is indeed so. When Peng Dehuai was wrongly criticized, Deng Hua never said a bad word about him, and he was eventually demoted to Sichuan as vice governor.

And when Peng Dehuai went to Sichuan to carry out the construction of the third line, he would rather stand at Deng Hua's door in the rain and look at Deng Hua's figure than go in and disturb, he was afraid that he would bring trouble to Deng Hua.

When Peng Dehuai died unjustly, he still remembered Deng Hua, a comrade-in-arms who inserted a knife in his ribs, and he handed back a gold cigarette box that Deng Hua gave him as a memorial to his life.

After Deng Hua's comeback, he has been campaigning for Peng Dehuai, and in the end, with the efforts of him and other old comrades, Peng Dehuai was rehabilitated.

These facts are enough to prove that the friendship between the two old revolutionaries is sincere and deep. Both Peng Dehuai and Deng Hua have demonstrated their overall view and mind with their lifelong actions. This is a true portrayal of the two old comrades-in-arms supporting each other and experiencing the revolutionary years together.
