Former Manchester United midfielder David Beckham said he was not actively involved in Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani's plans to buy the Red Devils.
Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chairman of the Ineos club, are caught up in a race to buy the club from the unpopular Glazer family, which announced last year that they were willing to sell the club. Sheikh Jassim is seen as the favourite to take office at Old Trafford given his eagerness to complete a full acquisition immediately, but multiple rounds of tenders have failed to produce a positive solution.
The Glazer family is believed to hold on to a staggering £6bn to relinquish control of the club, although Sheikh Jassim has so far not indicated he will increase his recent £5bn offer, while Ratcliffe is only seeking a minority stake with a view to a full takeover in the future.
As a staunch promoter of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, it was recently revealed that David Beckham could return to Manchester United as an ambassador if Sheikh Jassim's acquisition is successful.
However, in a separate interview with Consumer News & Business, David Beckham — who retired in 2013 at Paris Saint-Germain, owned by Qatar Sports Investment Corp., confirmed that there was "no discussion" of his possible involvement in the process.
"There is no discussion yet. I have a long-standing relationship with Qatar because of my involvement with Paris Saint-Germain. The 48-year-old said.
"There will be acquisitions, and now is the right time. We all have our own views on who should take over, but in my opinion it's about who cares most about the club and will bring the club back where it should be. "Everyone knows I'm a Manchester United fan and I'm outspoken about what's going on. I grew up there with the same coach and the same boss and was very stable. "Manchester United will always be one of the biggest clubs in the world. We need to go back to the fans, the players and the coach because it's not even inconsistent. We need to get negotiations back on the field, not out of the game.
"I would like to see an ownership team that can get the club back on track. I'm not saying the previous boss didn't do a good job, but it's time for someone else to take over. In his illustrious career at Old Trafford, David Beckham scored 85 goals and assisted 120 times in 394 games for the Red Devils, winning six Premier League titles in addition to one Champions League title.
However, a recent report claims that Ratcliffe's minority investment offer is now preferred by the Glazer family, who would retain full control of the club if the 70-year-old gets a 25 percent stake.
