Disney's popular TV series has triggered a heated discussion of "AI grabbing jobs" and mapped data rights confirmation platform hidden worries

Cai Lian News Agency, October 10 (Editor Shi Zhengcheng) Disney Marvel Studios' TV series "Loki (Season 2)" officially landed on the streaming media platform last Friday, although the evaluation of the series itself has a good reputation, but on the social media platform because of a poster, it triggered a "network detective" about generative AI.

Since the series itself is related to "time travel", it is reasonable to appear the style of the clock on the promotional poster, but in the eyes of some professional designers, the AI elements in this poster make them feel like a cat in their throats.

Graphic designer Katria Raden noted on social media X that in the mid-spiral clock in the poster background, obvious AIGC features appear, such as randomly generated meaningless distorted graphics.

Subsequently, the vast number of netizens found pictures suspected to be the background of the clock on the well-known copyright image platform Shutterstock. There are also netizens who spent several dollars to buy this image, although the metadata of the picture does not clearly explain how the image was generated, but the same contributor uploaded a large number of similar spiral images, increasing the "suspicion" of suspected AI-generated. Since this image was uploaded this year, it objectively excludes "alibi" that was not technically sufficient to support the generation of such images in earlier years.

At the same time, there are multiple AI detection tools that show that this image is generated by AI. It should be noted that since there is no AI detection tool that can achieve high-precision judgment, these conclusions can only be used as a reference. In addition, because many of the smaller characters in the poster are also quite stiff, it is not clear whether this poster has a higher "AI content".

Whose "pot"?

Like Adobe, a "data rights confirmation" concept stock that investors are very familiar with, Shutterstock also has restrictions on AIGC, such as the platform stipulating that in addition to the pictures generated by self-operated AI tools, the rest of the AI pictures must not be hung on the platform for sale, so as to ensure that the platform has copyright for the pictures sold, and AIGC pictures also need to be clearly marked. Shutterstock has also emphasized that since the company's AI tools are trained using copyright image libraries, it can be safely used commercially.

But in the face of the image that has embroiled Disney in controversy, Shutterstock did not publicly respond to questions or clarify how the platform takes action to ensure that sellers who sell images comply with AI rules.

Of course, Disney's relationship with AI has already crossed the level of making posters. In another Marvel work "Secret Invasion" in June this year, it caused a shock in Hollywood because of the use of AI to produce the opening credits. At that time, Disney also specifically emphasized that the use of AI technology did not cause the reduction of designer positions in the project.

Katria Raden commented that for many hardworking artists, selling licenses on image sites has always been one of the ways to make a living, and now this AIGC technology is based on "mass exploitation and pay theft".

The Verge, a well-known technology media, commented that because the copyright owner himself did not indicate the source, Disney may not know the situation of this image. But even so, it is not a good sign to allow random patterns in public materials.

This latest controversy also reflects the looming conflict between content creators and the AIGC industry. Over the past year, many image rights providers have launched AI tools aimed at making it cheaper for users with little creative experience to generate art in large numbers.

More importantly, with the rapid evolution of AI, some obvious AIGC features are being rapidly corrected. For example, OpenAI's DALL· released last month. E·3 has been able to solve the problem that text cannot be accurately generated, which also makes it exponentially difficult to distinguish AIGC works in the future.
