"Four Generations Together" takes the 77 incident as a historical background, showing the tragic scene of the country's destruction and the country's disgrace. Through "when the pen is tossing and turning, tears flow in my face; Where the tip of the pen reaches, blood drips into rivers", describes the experience of the little people in Beiping Hutong during the Anti-Japanese War, endures humiliation and sorrow, portrays the sincere fear and scrupulous mentality of people in that period, and also shows the story of their awakening at the critical moment of the country's collapse.
People, not awakened, but awakened by pain! "Four Generations Together" is divided into a trilogy of "Confusion", "Stealing Life" and "Famine". In particular, the third part, "Famine", was completed by Mr. Lao She in his apartment in New York in 1948. The work was sought after by American publishers, and Lao She agreed to translate and publish an English version. In 1951, the English version came out, and unlike the current Chinese version, the English version was a complete 100 chapters, renamed The Yellow Storm. And why is there 13 chapters missing from the Chinese edition? This was mainly because of the Cultural Revolution. After the ten-year catastrophe, Lao She's son Shu Yi found the English version of "Four Generations in the Same House" (that is, the yellow storm) mailed to Lao She by the American publishing house among the returned family raid items. To complement the Chinese edition, scholars of Four Generations translated the last 13 chapters from the English version, allowing the Chinese edition to restore the complete trilogy of 100 chapters.
In September 2017, the Oriental Publishing Center published the classic novel "Four Generations in the Same House" in modern Chinese literature, which appeared in full form for the first time in the form of a million-word novel.
