America's largest city is like a doomsday crisis! Record-breaking rainfall flooded subways in and around New York City, grounded flights and flooded streets, putting some areas at risk of further flooding. Thousands of people in New Jersey and New York City fled the floodwaters.

The governor of New York said it was a life-threatening rainstorm. Meteorologists say a month's precipitation drops in just a few hours. Up to 20 centimeters of rainfall fell in parts of the city. The municipality declared a state of emergency. Video footage shows people walking knee-deep in water.

Many streets and basements were flooded. Car traffic is almost paralyzed, and cars have difficulty moving in the water. Flooding caused significant disruption to the New York City subway system and Metro North commuter rail system.
