Tensions are growing on the Taladega Highway as some of the top NASCAR Truck Series racers are vying for playoff spots. Nick Sanchez was one of the drivers looking for an edge in the final round of knockout before the tournament 21 days later. Sanchez drove towards Talladega in the mix and made contact with Matt Crafton's car, which pulled into the front section with three laps remaining.
This contact set off a catastrophe. Crafton failed to finish the game. Sanchez finished seventh, jumping to fourth in the standings. Discontent erupted in the garage. A video from Frontstretch showed Sanchez being detained after a brawl. "I'm going to fucking kill you at Homestead," shouted Sanchez, referring to the last of eight rounds. "You're in the wrong person, Mom—uh." Sanchez was covered in blood. He left the infield care center with some scratches on his nose and explained to reporters what had happened.
"When I walked back to the porter, someone slapped me on the back and punched me in the face," he said. "Despicable attack, but that's it. I support fighting, but not act rashly. I hit cheaply. There was no chance of getting him back. Here's the thing. It's part of racing. Brett Moffitt emerged victorious after launching the Love's RV 250 at Station 31. He led by 22 laps on the road to victory. There are still two races left in the truck series this season — Homestead-Miami Baptist Health 200, followed by the Nov. 3 championship in Phoenix.
Corey Heim leads in the round of eight, 23 points ahead of Carson Hocheval. Christian Akes and Sanchez are fourth. Grant Enfinger is three points behind the last position. Ben Rhodes left 5 points behind, Ty Maesky 19 and Zane Smith 36.
