According to foreign media reports, New York State Attorney General James plans to subpoena former President Trump and his three adult children to testify in a civil fraud case next week.
The New York attorney general's office has identified a list of 28 witnesses that can be called, including Trump and his children, as well as key personnel such as Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen and the Trump Organization's former chief financial officer Alan Weisselberg. Trump's defense attorneys also submitted their own list of 128 witnesses, including Trump and his two oldest sons.
The case involves Trump and his company accused of defrauding banks and other institutions by inflating assets, net worth, etc. New York prosecutors are seeking at least $250 million in damages and blocking the Trump family from running a business in New York. The New York State Court of Appeals lifted the hold on the case, and the trial is expected to begin Oct. 2 and could continue into December.
While the lawsuit won't land Trump in jail, it could complicate his handling of real estate deals. Trump, as the frontrunner of the Republican Party in the 2024 election, has recently faced multiple legal difficulties and has been sued four times.
