The wedding was supposed to be the happiest and best time for a couple, but it was completely destroyed by a raging fire in an instant.
Late at night on September 26, 2023, at least 100 people were injured when a serious fire broke out at a wedding in Daniyah township, in Nineveh governorate, northern Iraq.
The event passed
After the incident, Iraq's General Directorate of Civil Defense issued a statement saying that highly flammable building materials were used in the lobby of the hotel where the wedding was held, and that the house did not have alarms and any firefighting equipment.
During the wedding, in order to set the mood, the couple set off a large number of fireworks, which caused a fire, and the fire spread rapidly, causing part of the hall building to collapse, and more than 150 people were injured, including the elderly, children, etc.
According to media reports, the number of injured may be increasing further as rescue operations proceed.
According to relevant reports from Iraqi media, at about 22:45 on the evening of September 26, 2023, a building in the Hamdaniya area of Iraq's Nineveh Province caught fire. At the time of the fire, the couple in the building were holding a wedding celebration, which was bustling with hundreds of friends and family.
According to some photos uploaded on social media, when the fire broke out, the fire was fierce, and the flames continued to rush through the wedding site, building debris fell one after another, and the elderly and children present and most of the people who fled were injured to varying degrees.
Aftermath of the fire
After the fire, Iraqi leaders instructed the relevant authorities to make every effort to carry out rescue operations. So far, a spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Health said that the fire has been brought under control and all injured people have been sent to various hospitals for rescue.
On 27 September, the Iraqi Ministry of Health was also urgently mobilizing ambulances, medicines for the wounded, medical equipment and other items needed from neighbouring provinces.
Relevant departments have also successively launched condolence work to the families of the deceased and the injured.

The State shall implement a permit system for the production, operation, transportation and holding of fireworks displays and other large-scale fireworks displays.
