Sources confirmed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has turned down an offer from the DFB in recent weeks to coach the German national team.
Germany parted ways with Hansi Flick on 10 September after a formidable four-win win in 17 matches, culminating in a 1-1 home defeat to Japan earlier this month. Reports following Flick's departure that DFB had named Klopp as the top candidate for the post of head coach, but his agent denied claims that he would be head coach in a few days' time.
Since then, the DFB has appointed Julian Nagelsmann as Germany's head coach under contract until the end of Euro 2024, which will be held on home soil. However, it is understood that even before the dismissal of Flick officially took effect, DFB did follow up on their interest in Kloop, finding the 56-year-old. Nevertheless, it was made clear in their conversation that he was not interested in leaving Liverpool at this time.
Klopp does have ambitions and aspirations to manage the German national team, but not at this stage of his career. Earlier this week, Klopp outlined in an interview with RTL why he is keen to remain loyal to Liverpool.
"We are building Liverpool 2.0 and we want to attack again and not just see how long we can last. I'm loyal to Liverpool," he said. "My heart is in Liverpool. You can't give up these eight years.
