His collection of white-glazed porcelain has become an unprecedented existence, from the Sui and Tang dynasties to the late Qing Dynasty, covering almost all classic white-glazed types in history.

He bought the former Swedish royal palace Ekoisund and spent 11 years renovating the old palace as his residence and preserving his collection. He also frequently loaned his collection to major international exhibitions, and his catalogue has become an authoritative book on Chinese white-glazed porcelain and gold and silver.

In the Proceedings of the Oriental Ceramics Society in London, Dr. Carl Kan's view of collecting is described as follows: "In ceramics his interest was in form and texture of glaze; decoration to him was far less important.” ("He was more concerned with the shape and glaze of ceramics, and for him the ornamentation of the objects was far less important.") )
