In the men's basketball World Cup final, Germany narrowly defeated Serbia 83-77 to win the men's basketball World Cup championship for the first time.

In the second half of the quarter, Schroeder scored seven points on consecutive free throws as Germany went on a 13-2 run to lead by 11 points at 64-53 in the final 2 minutes and 18 seconds. Goodrich hit both free throws, but Francis-Wagner scored another three to give Germany a 12-point lead at 69-57 in the third quarter.

Schroeder had 28 points, Franz Wagner 19 points and seven rebounds, and Vogtman 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Serbia shot 43 percent from the field and 9-of-27 from three-point range, Bogdan had 17 points and five assists, Avramovic had 21 points, Petrushev 10, Nikola Jovic had 9 points and 6 rebounds and Malinkovic had 9 points.
