In the men's basketball World Cup final, Germany narrowly defeated Serbia 83-77 to win the men's basketball World Cup championship for the first time.
Stefan Jovic dunk, Nikola Jovic fast break dunk, Serbia started 5-0. Francis-Wagner attacked twice, Schroeder broke through for a layup, and Vogtman hit an equalizer. Bogdan Bogdanovic broke through for a layup, Franz Wagner made consecutive free throws, and Tess made a free throw, giving Germany the lead. Bogdan hit a 3-pointer, and Malinkovic and Nicola Jovic hit long-range shots to give Serbia a 26-23 lead in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Franz Wagner broke through for a layup and made a three-point foul to help Germany take a 30-28 lead. Bogdan scored two more 3-pointers to give Serbia a four-point lead. Schroeder responded with two 3-pointers, and Franz Wagner made a sudden free throw, and the two sides engaged in a tug-of-war. Schroeder grabbed a dunk in the final 27 seconds and Bogdan equalized again on both free throws, bringing the two teams to 47 in the first half. Germany shot 59 percent from the field, with Schroeder scoring 14 points and Franz Wagner scoring 14 points on 8-of-9 free throws. Serbia shot 55 percent from the field and Bogdan scored 15 points.
In the third quarter, Schroder broke through and scored again, and Bogdan responded with a basket. The scores of the two teams are still clenching. In the second half of the quarter, Schroeder scored seven points on consecutive free throws as Germany went on a 13-2 run to lead by 11 points at 64-53 in the final 2 minutes and 18 seconds. Goodrich hit both free throws, but Francis-Wagner scored another three to give Germany a 12-point lead at 69-57 in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Avramovic made a fast-break dunk, after which he hit another 3-pointer, and Petrushev turned low on a single and made a throw, and Serbia chased 64-71. Obest made a mid-range shot to stabilize the situation, and Avramovic relied on speed to burst in. Germany missed a series of shots, but Serbia did not take advantage of the opportunity. In the final five minutes, Avramovic scored another 3-pointer in the bottom corner to give Serbia a 69-73 run. Vogtman immediately responded with a long shot from the bottom corner. After another fight, Franz Wagner grabbed a rebound and caused a foul, and he hit both free throws to give Germany a 78-69 lead into the final two minutes.
Avlamovic scored another three points, then he made another three points to cause a foul, and Serbia chased 75-78 after hitting all three free throws. Avlamovich has scored 16 points so far in the quarter. Bogdan made a steal, but Goodrich missed an equaliser in the open space. Schroeder walked to the free throw line and hit one of two free throws to give Germany a four-point lead in the final 48 seconds. Goodrich broke through and caused a foul, and he made it 77-79 in the final 39 seconds of both free throws. Schroeder made an easy layup as Germany had a four-point advantage in the final 21 seconds. Bogdan missed a three-point and Nicola Jovic won the front board, but Gudric's pass was mistaken and Serbia's momentum was over.
Schroeder had 28 points, Franz Wagner 19 points and seven rebounds, and Vogtman 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Serbia shot 43 percent from the field and 9-of-27 from three-point range, Bogdan had 17 points and five assists, Avramovic had 21 points, Petrushev 10, Nikola Jovic had 9 points and 6 rebounds and Malinkovic had 9 points.
