The Arab Perspective on the Crusades: Observations from the Kingdom of Saran

author:Eye-catching character ZHAO

The Crusades were a conflict between the European Christian world and the Arab-Muslim world, and we usually look at this history from a European perspective, but ignore the perspective and perspective of the Arab world. The aim of this thesis is to examine the Crusades from an Arab perspective, using the Kingdom of Saraan as a case study.

The Kingdom of Saran was an Islamic state founded by the Kurdish Saladin, and before the Crusades, the Arab region was divided and ruled by a series of Islamic dynasties. There were frequent clashes between the Kingdom of Saraan and the Crusader powers, and the two sides faced off not only in military confrontation, but also in religious, political and cultural divisions and antagonisms.

The kingdom of Saran showed a resolute spirit of resistance in the face of the military threat of the Crusaders, organizing an effective army and using the strategic location and castle defense system to resist the Crusaders' attack. Saladin's leadership and military prowess, which led to victories in many battles, were important to them, consolidating statehood and strengthening deterrence against the crusaders.

In addition to military resistance, the Kingdom of Saraan also tried diplomatic and negotiating routes, they intervened with European monarchs, leaders and knights in an attempt to resolve disputes and reduce conflicts through diplomatic means. However, these efforts have not yielded lasting results due to differences and conflicts of interest between the two sides.

The Crusades had a profound impact on the society, economy and culture of the Kingdom of Saraan. The outbreak of war and conflict forced the kingdom of Saran to adjust its social organization and administrative structure to deal with the threat from the crusaders. The kingdom of Saram was also located on important trade routes, and through trade with Europe and Asia, the kingdom's economy prospered to a certain extent. However, the wars and conflicts of the Crusades interrupted these trade links, causing a certain impact on the economy of the Kingdom of Saraan.

In its contact with the Crusaders, the Kingdom of Saran also tried to assimilate and integrate cultural elements from Europe and spread its own cultural and artistic expressions to Europe. This cultural exchange and interaction had a positive impact on the development and social change of the kingdom of Saraan.

Arab historical texts have played an important role in the study of the Saranic Kingdom and the Crusades, providing a native perspective and perspective of the Saranic Kingdom and helping us better understand the complexities and interactions of this historical period. However, there are still some challenges in the study of Arab historical documents, such as the collection and collation of documents, biases and controversies in documents, etc., which need to be further addressed and overcome.

In sum, studying the Crusades from an Arab perspective provides a more comprehensive and multidimensional historical understanding that allows us to better understand the observations and reactions of the Kingdom of Saram and to further explore and evaluate the impact and significance of this historical event. At the same time, Arab historical documents provide us with valuable first-hand information on the impact of the Crusades on the local people and culture. In future research, we need to further excavate and use Arab historical documents to obtain a more accurate and comprehensive historical picture.
