What is "Wuying Class"?
Wuying level is the mainland's "highest level of martial arts athlete" honor, if placed in martial arts novels or film and television, it is the top master.
To win this award, you must first participate in the national "six all-around" competition as a wushu athlete, and you must achieve a top three overall results in these six all-around competitions, and win at least one of them.
Such a difficult and demanding requirement can only be exchanged for the qualification of "Wuying level".
If you want to pass the audit and officially promote to the martial arts level, you must also be proficient in various weapons and fist and foot kung fu.
Therefore, even in the entertainment industry, where "martial arts stars" are endless, only 8 stars deserve the title of martial arts.
Who are these 8 masters? What are they so special?
Jet li
Jet Li, known as the "Kung Fu Emperor", is a well-deserved martial arts master.
He entered a martial arts school at the age of 8, and the famous martial arts instructor Wu Bin saw his qualifications and specially taught him.
At the age of 9, he participated in the national wushu competition and won the "Outstanding Performance Award", and then gave an opening performance for the International Table Tennis Championship.
After that, Premier Zhou also specially talked with this "young martial arts genius".
Becoming famous at a young age and unlimited potential, Wu Bin trained Jet Li wholeheartedly.
After two years of training, Jet Li won three consecutive championships in the Junior National Wushu Competition at the age of 11.
It is worth mentioning that at that time, Jet Li was still participating in the competition with illness.
By the age of 12, the junior competition could no longer enter Jet Li's eyes, so he directly signed up for the senior competition.
In the end, Jet Li's skills overwhelmed all the adult competitors, and he won the all-around championship in one fell swoop.
For the next four years, the all-around championship award in the senior category has been monopolized by Jet Li, and no one can beat it.
Unfortunately, in 1979, Jet Li participated in the Fourth National Games, resulting in serious injuries to both legs and knees.
At that time, he supported his sick body and still won 5 gold medals in one go.
But the injury could not be completely healed, and Jet Li, who was only 16 years old, had no choice but to retire.
After retiring, Jet Li did not fall into depression, but after being invited by relevant national institutions, he devoted himself to the film and television industry and starred in his first work, which was also the sensation of "Shaolin Temple" in the mainland and Hong Kong that year.
Since then, the martial arts world has lost its "young genius", but the entertainment industry has a "kung fu emperor".
Zhao Changjun
Although Zhao Changjun's fame is not as great as Jet Li's, his contributions to the Chinese martial arts community are also outstanding for all to see.
And there seems to always be a "bad relationship" between him and Jet Li.
In 1972, at the national martial arts competition where Jet Li won the "Outstanding Performance Award", Zhao Changjun also won the same award.
But just as "Wen Wu is not the first, Wu is not the second", in the subsequent games, Zhao Changjun was always overwhelmed by Jet Li, and every time he ranked second by a very small margin.
It was not until Jet Li retired due to illness that Zhao Changjun became the "number one in the world", occupying the top spot for ten consecutive years, firmly holding the "individual all-around champion" in his hands.
After that, he also tried to develop into the film and television industry, but unfortunately met Jet Li again.
The two movies he starred in "Wudang" and "One Knife to the City" were completely crushed by Jet Li's "Shaolin Temple" and "Huang Feihong".
Perhaps because he lost his heart, or maybe he simply did not want to "fight" with Jet Li, Zhao Changjun directly withdrew from the entertainment industry, turned to a martial arts school, and became the officially appointed "head coach of the Shaanxi Provincial Wushu Team".
Donnie Yen, who later broke into the world in the entertainment industry, studied under Zhao Changjun.
Zhao Wenzhuo
Under the influence of Zhao Wenzhuo's father who practiced martial arts and his mother who was an athletics athlete, Zhao Wenzhuo began to practice martial arts at the age of 8.
Under the recommendation of his father, he became the apprentice of many folk masters and learned a whole skill, especially proficient in boxing and marksmanship.
In 1990, Zhao Wenzhuo entered Beijing Sport University and began to receive professional training.
Just one year later, Zhao Wenzhuo won the national wushu competition, so he was successfully elected as a "Wuying class" athlete.
At that time, Zhao Wenzhuo was only 19 years old.
In 1993, Jet Li was preparing to make the movie "Fang Shiyu", and Zhao Wenzhuo was caught in by the director who came to the Sports University to select actors, thus officially entering the entertainment industry.
What's more worth mentioning is that during the filming of "Fang Shiyu", Zhao Wenzhuo was favored by Tsui Hark, the director of the crew next door, thus taking over the name of Jet Li's "Huang Feihong" and becoming the starring role in "Huang Feihong 4".
Since then, Zhao Wenzhuo has made a breakthrough of his own in the entertainment industry with his martial arts and superb acting skills.
Zhang Jin
Compared with Zhao Wenzhuo's smooth wind, Zhang Jin's road in the entertainment industry has been very bumpy.
He began to practice martial arts at the age of 9, entered the provincial team at the age of 11, and won the championship of the "Baguazhang, Gun, and Sword" at the Seventh National Games at the Seventh National Games.
By the age of 21, Zhang Jin had become the only "Wuying-class" athlete in the whole of Chongqing.
But he is not as lucky as Zhao Wenzhuo and can be directly taken in by the director, so after Zhang Jin retired at the age of 23, if he wanted to enter the entertainment industry and develop, he could only start from the lowest stand-in.
In "Xiao Li Feidao", he served as a stand-in for Jia Jingwen, and in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", he served as a stand-in for actresses such as Zhang Ziyi and Michelle Yeoh, and even Zhou Yunfa's Tai Chi was taught by him.
In "Heroes", Zhang Jin became Donnie Yen's stand-in.
The bridge between Jet Li and Donnie Yen fighting in the rain in the movie was designed by Zhang Jin.
As a stand-in until he was 30 years old, Zhang Jin was qualified to show his face and starred in "Shuiyue Dongtian", but he did not become famous for this.
It was not until he was 40 years old that he successfully won the Best Supporting Actor Award at the Academy Awards for his outstanding performance in "A Generation of Grandmasters".
And what really made him famous was the "Kill the Wolf 2" released in 2015.
Zhang Jin played the warden with "strong martial arts, elegant and decent" in the movie, so he successfully became popular and was called a "suit thug" by netizens.
Yang Junyi
Yang Junyi, also from a martial arts family, was successfully selected for the provincial team at the age of 8 and became a "Wuying-level" athlete at the age of 16.
After retiring due to injury at the age of 24, he also entered the entertainment industry.
He is featured in film and television works such as "Young King", "Xiao Shiyilang", "Shuiyue Dongtian" and so on.
In 2010, his former instructor wanted Yang Junyi to be his assistant because he was appointed as a martial arts instructor in Jiangsu Province.
After getting the news, Yang Junyi directly chose to quit the entertainment industry and became a martial arts instructor.
Just one year later, his apprentice Zhang Kai won the "Changquan" event of the World Wushu Championships.
Wu Yue
Wu Yue can be said to be a true martial arts genius, winning the national championship at the age of 15 and becoming a "Wuying-level" athlete at the age of 16.
Unlike other martial arts masters who retired due to injury, Wu Yue chose to enter the entertainment industry by himself.
That year, he was admitted to the Central Academy of Drama with the first place, and then he was selected as an actor by the National Theatre because of his excellent professional results.
Although Wu Yue's film and television works are very famous, such as "Jingwu Hero Chen Zhen" and "The Secret of Liancheng", he himself is not famous.
After that, he starred in classic action films such as "Kill the Wolf", "Wild Beast", "Ip Man 4" and so on, which did not make him popular.
Zhou Xiaofei
Zhou Xiaofei can be described as a real "woman who does not let his eyebrows", and once served as the captain of the Jiangsu Wushu Team and the National Wushu Team.
She began to practice martial arts at the age of 5, mastered swordsmanship and boxing, and won many national wushu competitions.
In 2002, Zhou Xiaofei was favored by director Chen Xunqi because of a competition video, so he was invited to star in "The Heroic Club".
Since then, Zhou Xiaofei has become Chen Xunqi's "royal martial arts actress", and even played the "Third Sister of Jinlou" in "A Generation of Grandmasters" under Chen Xunqi's recommendation, a set of flowing Baguazhang, which impressed the audience.
Jiang Luxia
As Shi Xiaolong's classmate, Jiang Luxia has been practicing martial arts in Shaolin Temple since she was a child.
She was admitted to Beijing Sport University at the age of 17, and the following year she won the national Shaolin boxing championship, so she was promoted to "Wuying-level" athlete.
Jiang Luxia did not enter the entertainment industry at the beginning, but posted various videos of self-learning "self-defense" on the Internet, becoming the first batch of "Internet celebrities", and thus participated in the recording of "Happy Camp".
It is precisely because of her popularity on the Internet that Jiang Luxia was favored by film and television companies and entered the entertainment industry.
She has worked with industry celebrities such as Yuan Heping, Sammo Hung, and Wang Jing, but the response has always been mediocre.
It was not until "Operation Red Sea" released in 2018 that she successfully became popular with the role of "Tong Li".
summary
Although Donnie Yen and Wu Jing are both famous martial arts stars, they have both won awards in national martial arts competitions.
But if you want to be elected as a "Wuying-level" athlete, you need all-around, Donnie Yen and Wu Jing have their own strengths, but the shortcomings are also obvious.
Therefore, compared with the above 8 "martial arts-level" masters, Donnie Yen and Wu Jing are still slightly inferior.
