According to the Observer Network reported on September 4, in an interview with Italian media a few days ago, former Italian Prime Minister Amato, who had twice served as the prime minister of Italy, exposed a shocking surprise: he believed that the "Ustica massacre", which killed 81 innocent people and shocked the world, was actually done by the United States and France.
(Amato when he was Prime Minister)
The "Ustica massacre" actually refers to the 1980 Etavia Flight 870 crash, when the DC-9-15 passenger plane mysteriously crashed over the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, directly killing all 81 people on board and no one survived. The cause of the air crash is still unknown, and its tragic death toll has made it known as "one of the greatest mysteries of contemporary Italy".
Amato apparently did not believe the crash was caused by weather or terrorists. In the interview, he made it clear that although he did not have conclusive evidence, he was convinced that the real cause of the crash was "the passenger plane being attacked by French fighter jets."
(Wreckage of Itavia Flight 870)
Amto said that at that time, Libyan leader Gaddafi was preparing to return to Tripoli by plane from Yugoslavia, and the United States and France, which were very dissatisfied with Gaddafi, conspired to "intercept" Gaddafi in the airspace near Italy, but Gaddafi, who received Italian news, did not return home on a military plane as planned.
According to him, the route of the passenger plane happened to be in the "combat zone" where the Libyan military aircraft encountered the French military aircraft, and the air-to-air missile launched by the French fighter when grappling with the Libyan air force accidentally hit the passing Italian passenger plane, causing the passenger plane to fall into the sea on the spot.
(Gaddafi, regarded as a thorn in the side of the United States and France)
Amato even gave many details, such as NATO has carried out targeted military exercises for this purpose, French fighters took off from a nearby French aircraft carrier, and Italian ground radars detected the activity of multiple aircraft in the airspace on the day. He said that the United States and France created this tragedy, and Biden and Macron, as the heads of the United States and France, should disclose the truth and give an explanation to the Italian people. But so far, neither the United States nor France has responded to Amato's accusations.
But in fact, what Amato said was said as early as thirty years ago: as early as the 1991 case hearing, an Italian lawmaker pointed out that the incident was actually an "undisclosed act of war"; Corsica, who served as Italy's prime minister in 1980, also publicly stated in 2008 that "the passenger plane was shot down by a French warplane" and demanded compensation from the French side, but did not receive a positive response from the French side.
(The wreck of the flight is still waiting for the truth)
If Amato's accusations are true, it is not surprising, after all, there are countless cases of accidental shooting of civilian aircraft in military operations - in 1988, US warships shot down Iranian Flight 655, Iran shot down Uzbekistan Airlines Flight 752, Israel shot down Airlines Flight 114, and of course, the famous "Malaysia Airlines 17" incident... It can be said that with these "previous convictions", it is entirely possible that this passenger plane was really fought by the United States and France.
In fact, the investigation showed that the French Navy's Foch aircraft carrier was undergoing modernization and upgrading at that time, but another Clemenceau aircraft carrier was indeed in a deployable state, but the French side resolutely refused to disclose the ship's itinerary at the time of the incident, and only claimed that "there were no French fighters flying in the airspace at that time." The Associated Press also pointed out that after the incident, the wreckage of a Libyan MiG fighter was found near the scene of the incident - if the French army did not engage the Libyan Air Force near Italy, where did the wreckage come from?

Of course, nearly half a century has passed since this incident, and the current French President Emmanuel Macron was a three-year-old child at the time - there is a high probability that Macron himself does not know what the truth is.
For now, both the United States and France have no intention of clarifying this matter, after all, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is what they value the most at the moment, and Amato, as a former prime minister who has stayed away from politics, his energy is not enough for the United States and France to pay attention. This will obviously affect the psychological identification of the Italian people with the United States and France, and will further deepen the contradictions within the EU - perhaps many years later, a sober politician will reveal the truth, but until then, all we can do is wait.
