Typhoon "Anemone" has been upgraded! Expect to land this evening! Why typhoons are "piled up" recently?

This morning, 6 a.m

The Central Meteorological Observatory continues to issue

Typhoon Red Alert!

Strong typhoon "Anemone"

Or land in Taiwan today!

It can be strengthened up to a super typhoon of category 16!

The Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue a typhoon red warning at 6 o'clock on September 3:

This year's No. 11 typhoon "Sea Anemone" has been strengthened from typhoon to strong typhoon last night, and at 5 o'clock this morning its center is located about 185 kilometers south-east of Taitung City, Taiwan Province (22.4 degrees north latitude, 122.9 degrees east longitude), with a maximum wind force of 14 (45 m/s) near the center.

The "Sea Anemone" is expected to move westward at a speed of 15-20 kilometers per hour, and the intensity will increase, up to the super typhoon level (52-55 m/s, 16), and will make landfall on the southeast coast of Taiwan Island around this evening (strong typhoon or super typhoon, 48-52 m/s, 15-16), then pass through Taiwan Island, move into the Taiwan Strait in the early morning of the 4th, and then approach the coast from southern Fujian to eastern Guangdong.

@中央气象台: It is still a typhoon red warning, but a typhoon warning has been changed, this time it is the No. 11 typhoon anemone This evening "sea anemone" may land in Taiwan, and then continue to approach the mainland mainland, its intensity is still increasing, the strongest can reach the super typhoon level (52 m/s). In the future, the sea temperature of the sea it passes through is also relatively high, with 29 °C, and the residual cloud system of "Sura" may also be absorbed by "sea anemone", so it cannot be taken lightly!

One wind is uneven, and the wind is rising

This year's No. 12 typhoon "Hongyan"

At 8 o'clock on the 2nd, in the northwest Pacific Ocean

It weakens to a tropical depression

The Central Meteorological Observatory numbered its stop

Why are typhoons "clustered" this year?

Dr. Su Tonghua of the Fujian Climate Center said that this is closely related to the global climate, and a moderate-intensity El Niño event has formed in the eastern Pacific Ocean at present, and the sub-high will be slightly stronger in this context. Every August and early September, the sub-elevation moves to a more northerly position, at this time, the strong westerly monsoon air flow in the south of the sub-height forms a convergence zone with the easterly air flow on the south side of the sub-height, and the convergent air flow provides favorable power conditions for the swarming of typhoons, coupled with the high SST in the northwest Pacific this year, which is conducive to typhoons obtaining sufficient energy. In addition to El Niño, typhoon clusters are closely related to intraseasonal oscillations in the tropical atmosphere and circulation in the southern hemisphere.

Su Tonghua said that according to data statistics from 1991 to 2020, the average number of typhoons affecting Fujian per year is 7, of which 1.7 are typhoons making landfall. So far this year, there have been 5 typhoons affecting Fujian, of which 1 landfall, that is, super typhoon "Du Surui", intuitively feel more and stronger than the number of typhoons since 2018.

Lin Jinjian, chief forecaster of the Fujian Meteorological Observatory, said that if Typhoon "Anemone" makes landfall in Fujian in the later stage, it will most likely be a strong tropical storm or tropical storm, and it is necessary to pay attention to the length of its stay in the Taiwan Strait.

Affected by the "sea anemone", there will be gusts of 9-12 and 12-14 winds in Fujian fishing grounds and coastal sea areas from the 3rd to the 5th. From the 4th, there will be obvious precipitation in most areas of Fujian Province, heavy rain to heavy rain in some counties and cities, and exceptionally heavy rain in some places.

From the perspective of the evolution of the path trend of "sea anemone", its trend was once southward, in this regard, Lin Jinjian explained that this is mainly closely related to the continued strength of the offshore subtropical high, and the overall adjustment of the large-scale convergence zone from the South China Sea to the western Pacific Ocean and the interaction of the three typhoons "Sura", "Anemone" and "Hongyan " also have a certain impact on it.

"It is necessary to pay attention to all kinds of warning and forecast information issued by the local meteorological department in a timely manner, especially after the 4th, the 'sea anemone' will have a significant wind and rain impact on the coastal areas of Fujian, thereby affecting transportation including highways, railways, and flights." Huang Zhigang, chief service expert of Fujian Meteorological Bureau, pointed out, "Typhoon heavy precipitation may cause flash floods, floods in small and medium-sized watersheds, urban and rural waterlogging, landslides, mudslides and other secondary disasters, tourists need to pay close attention to the weather conditions of the destination, cautiously travel to areas affected by strong winds, heavy rain and other weather and high risk of geological disasters."
