After a series of warm-ups, Volkswagen officially unveiled the new generation Passat (B9).
As the world's most well-known mid-size sedan, Volkswagen has delivered more than 30 million units since its introduction in 1973. The upcoming all-new Passat (B9) will also have a new change, that is, no longer offer a sedan and only retain the station wagon (Variant).

First of all, the exterior styling, the new generation of Passat uses the main concept of the new generation of ID. series electric vehicles, that is, simplicity, such as a smaller main grille, slimmer-looking main lighting headlights and through-through LED light strips. At the same time, in order to reflect the identity of the fuel vehicle, the Passat's bumper shape uses the same top-wide and down-narrow inverted trapezoidal style as the new SAIC Volkswagen Lingdu (the R-Line sports package uses a rectangle).
However, as a mid-size sedan, the Passat did not use the "radical" style of Lingdu, and the bumper interior was decorated with conventional chrome horizontal stripes, instead of the "starry" like Lingdu. The shape of the R-Line Sport Suit bumper is completely different from the regular version, with L-shaped decorations added on both sides of the rectangular bumper, a honeycomb mesh structure inside the center X-shaped element, and chrome elements replaced by black elements.

In terms of tail styling, the new through-through taillights use a new display element inside, and the letter "PASSAT" is affixed under the tailgate license plate frame to show the identity.
After reading the exterior styling, everyone must want to know the size and specification information of the vehicle, because from the pictures, the new generation model has become significantly more slender.
The new generation of Passat is based on the MQB Evo platform, with increased three-dimensional dimensions of 144mm, 20mm and 7mm, length 4917mm, width 1852mm and height of 1482mm. In addition, the wheelbase has been lengthened by 50mm to 2841mm.
Volkswagen mentioned that the increase in length has increased the rear legroom by 50mm, the luggage compartment volume has also increased by 40 liters, compared to 690 liters in the standard state, and the luggage compartment volume after reclaming the second row of seats has increased by 140 liters compared to the current model to 1920 liters.
In terms of chassis, the next-generation Passat, developed based on the MQB Evo platform, still uses the front MacPherson multi-link suspension combination, but adopts a new twin-valve shock absorber and Volkswagen's new Vehicle Dynamics Management (VDM). According to Volkswagen, this design increases comfort and strengthens the difference in driving characteristics between driving modes.
In terms of power, the next-generation Passat is available in up to eight power types, including gasoline, diesel and plug-in hybrid.
1. 1.5L eTSI gasoline: This is the first time in the history of the Passat to replace the gasoline power system with mild hybrid system, the engine with closed cylinder technology, the total power of the system is 110kW;
2. 2.0L TSI gasoline: the maximum power of the front-wheel drive version is 150kW, and the maximum power of the engine of the 4Motion all-wheel drive model is 195kW;
3. 2.0L TDI diesel: 20kW and 110kW versions are available for front-wheel drive models, and the maximum power of 4Motion all-wheel drive models is 142W;
4. eHybrid plug-in hybrid version, composed of a new 1.5T engine plus motor, the low-power version has a maximum power of 150kW and a maximum torque of 258 lb-feet (350 Nm), and the high-power version is 200kW and a maximum torque of 295 lb-feet (400 Nm).
The plug-in hybrid model is equipped with a 19.7kWh battery pack, which has a pure electric range of 62 miles (100 km) based on WLTP standards; supports 50kW DC fast charging, and it takes 25 minutes to charge 10%-80%; When fully fueled (45L tank), the combined maximum cruising range is 621 miles (1000 km).
In terms of drivetrain, the fuel vehicles are mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and the plug-in hybrid version is mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Finally, let's take a look at the interior of the new car. The interior design of the new generation Passat follows the concept of the ID. series electric vehicles, reducing the physical control module, making the interior look very simple.
The new generation model is equipped with a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster and pocket gear design as standard, the multi-function steering wheel has been replaced with physical buttons (previously capacitive touch type), the low-end model is equipped with a 12.9-inch central control touch screen, the mid-high configuration is upgraded to 15 inches, built-in Volkswagen MIB 4 operating system, with a new menu structure, higher resolution graphics and voice control.
According to the plan, the new generation of Passat will make its public debut at the Munich International Motor Show next week and go on sale in the first quarter of next year. However, the production of the new car will not be completed at Volkswagen's German plant, but will be moved to Bratislava, Slovakia, Slovakia, and co-produced with the new Skoda Speed.
