In a place called Guozhuang Village in Henan Province, villagers woke up to a loud noise on the first day of the Chinese New Year in 2005. Everyone thought it was the sound of firecrackers for the New Year, but they didn't pay much attention.
But the next day, when the farmers of Guozhuang village found a huge hole in their land, the whole village boiled. The farmer immediately notified the local antiquities bureau.
When experts from the Cultural Relics Bureau arrived at the scene, they found that it was a cave left by tomb robbers. The archaeological team quickly intervened and began salvage excavations. The archaeological team quickly determined that this was an ancient tomb from the Warring States period.
Shockingly, there are 7 meters of rammed earth above this ancient tomb, but there are already 12 robbery holes. Experts don't hold out much hope for the integrity of this ancient tomb.
Grave robbers usually calculate the depth of the excavation precisely to avoid rammed earth collapse. One of the holes has been dug to the upper edge of the coffin. After half a year of archaeological excavation, it was found that this ancient tomb had been stolen and excavated to nothing, even the remains of the tomb owner were missing, and only half of the head was left at random.
Just as the archaeological team was about to finish their work, a team member accidentally found a human-shaped bluestone slab at the bottom of the coffin. The discovery made the team decide to continue excavating. Not long after, they found a real ancient tomb under the original tomb.
This real ancient tomb preserves a large number of bronzes from the Warring States period, the most striking of which is a delicate dragon ear tiger seat large square pot that is one meter high. The discovery shocked the entire archaeological community.
It turned out that the owner of this ancient tomb deliberately designed a fake burial chamber above the real burial chamber in order to avoid theft. This tactic successfully confuses the tomb robbers into thinking they have succeeded, thus protecting the real tomb and the treasures inside.
Archaeologists say that this design shows the wisdom and forward-thinking of the tomb owner. They even speculated that the tomb owner may have been advised by a tomb robber expert at the time to design such an ingenious double-storey burial chamber.
Judging by the shape of the tomb, the owner of the tomb may have been a Fangbo level nobleman in a small country in the middle of the Warring States. He was worried that the tomb would be stolen after death, so he specially asked the tomb robbers to understand their routines, and then designed the barrel structure of the main and secondary tombs to deal with the tomb robbers.
The tomb of the Lord is placed underground, and it contains his treasures during his lifetime. The rammed earth layer of the upper 7 meters is used to confuse grave robbers. Above it is a fake tomb, and the tomb owner deliberately placed some belongings to lure the tomb robbers into the bait. Sure enough, this scheme worked, and the grave robbers were attracted by the surface fake tomb, and repeatedly excavated but found nothing. In this way, the main tomb remains intact to this day.
The discovery of this ancient tomb not only provides us with a large number of cultural relics from the Warring States period, but also shows us the wisdom of the ancients and their deep consideration for future generations.
