Alpine F1 team officially announced that Alonso will continue to participate in F1 with the team in 2022.
Alonso, who just turned 40 in July, left F1 at the end of 2018 and spent two years competing in other motorsport races. This year Alonso returned to F1 with the Alpine F1 team, the predecessor of the Renault team he played for when he won the world championship in 2005 and 2006.
Alonso has scored points in six consecutive races and finished fourth in the hungarian Grand Prix of the season before the summer break. At that time, he defended Hamilton hard in the main race, laying an important foundation for teammates Ocon and Alpine F1 to win the first crown.
Earlier this year, Alpine signed a new long-term contract with AuCom, with the team saying their dynamic rider combination offers a balance of youth and experience.
