The WeChat Security Center reminds everyone that do not scan QR codes from unknown sources, free gifts are tricky, and do not be deceived by greedy cheapness.

On August 8, Xiao Gong, the owner of a homestay in Lvhua Town, Chongming District, Shanghai, asked the police for help through WeChat, claiming that he had received an unfamiliar courier with the correct address and door number, but the recipient's name and phone number were incorrect. Out of curiosity, I opened the courier, which contained a mobile phone holder, a "Red Envelope from WeChat Merchant Alliance" card printed with a QR code, and a thank you letter. When he scanned the QR code on the red envelope through WeChat to claim the prize, WeChat jumped to a customer service conversation with "Material Yao Trading Company". After sending the red envelope photos, the customer service asked Xiao Gong to provide a mobile phone number and add him as a friend, and then under the guidance of the customer service, he was pulled into a group to "receive" the red envelope and fruit gifts, and then there was a "trust" in the group to say that he could earn a lot of money by doing tasks.

Chongming Public Security Photo Xiao Gong had previously received anti-fraud propaganda from the police, and the content was the same, and then contacted the police to verify it. Police officer Huang Jianbin immediately replied:

In order to find out the tricks of such fraud, the police used WeChat to scan the QR code for the prize, and found from the subsequent dialogue that the customer service of the conversation has changed from "customer service of Caiyao Trading Company" to "customer service of Shengyun Trading Company", the same QR code has a different company name, ask how to redeem the prize, the other party also requires a mobile phone number.

"This kind of fraud is relatively new, first obtaining the victim's identity information through various channels, including name, address, etc., and then delivering cheap 'gifts' to potential victims, and scanning the code for one-line contact on the grounds of winning the lottery, using the victim's greedy psychology to induce the public to provide mobile phone numbers, and finally through WeChat drainage to carry out bill fraud." Shi Chenghang, a police officer from the Lvhua Police Station of the Chongming Branch of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau, said.

Along with the cup came a flyer with the words "Just for you" printed on it, and also accompanied by a QR code to say that you can choose from the gift on the picture after scanning the code.
