The 93-year-old Chinese died in a fire, and the culprit is still it...

According to a recent report by the US Chinese Network, New York police said that a fatal fire in Queens on August 11, local time, may be caused by an explosion of an electric vehicle battery being charged.

The fire incident occurred in a commercial and residential building, killing a 93-year-old Chinese resident and injuring another person. According to reports, after the fire, 93-year-old Chinese resident Kam Mei Koo was found to have collapsed on the second floor, unconscious, and was confirmed dead after being rushed to the hospital.

The New York City Fire Department later said that the cause of the fire was determined to be an accident and was investigating whether it was caused by the explosion of lithium-ion batteries.

Investigators said the building's basement was used as an electric car repair shop, the first floor was illegally converted into an apartment and an attic was used as a bedroom.

But the victim's son, Jack Koo, denied that there was an electric car in the basement for maintenance. Jack said that he recently bought a lithium-ion battery on an e-commerce platform, and he believes that it is a battery problem, not an electric car problem.

In 2023, there have been more than 100 lithium-ion battery-related fires in New York City, with 14 related deaths and more than 90 injuries, according to the New York City Fire Department.
