Coach Voss Tcklenburg is a legend of German women's football, having won the European Championship four times (1989, 1991, 1995 and 1997). At the 2015 World Cup in Canada, the South Korean women's football team reached the last 16 of the World Cup, losing 2-2 to Brazil, drawing 2-2 with Costa Rica and winning Spain 2-1, but losing 3-0 to France in the round of 16 and missing the next round.

In the 2019 World Cup, the South Korean women's football team lost all three games, losing 0-4 to France, 0-2 to Nigeria, and 1-2 to Norway.
