"Spider-Man: Across the Universe" is a sequel to "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse", which was released in theaters around the world and aroused an enthusiastic response from the audience. In the film, in addition to the protagonist Miles Morales, there are some Spider-Men from different parallel universes, including Penny Parker and her mecha partner SP//DR.
Penny Parker and SP//DR are characters who first appeared in the manga in October 2014, and their styling and setting are influenced by Japanese anime. In "Parallel Universes", they also have a good performance, but many fans feel that their characters can be deeper and richer.
Recently, the film's character designer Christag Anka shared on Twitter some new styling drawings of Penny Parker and SP//DR, which were rejected but showed some interesting ideas.
As can be seen from these design drawings, the new shape of SP//DR is closer to the original manga than in "Parallel Universe", more tall and humanoid, and perhaps larger. Penny Parker, on the other hand, has two different outfits, one is a plug suit inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion, and the other is a red and blue jacket and sunglasses, both with personality and style.
Anka tweeted: "I spent a little time on her, coming up with the idea of having her wear a plug-in combat suit, but mostly did work on the new mech. I just tried to adapt the design in the comics. ”
However, in the film, we see Penny Parker and SP//DR not using these design solutions. When Miles learns of his father's death, Penny Parker, wearing a school uniform, appears beside him. At the end of the film, when Penny Parker appears with Gwen in the newly formed Spider-Man team, she adds a sweater over her school uniform.
Although these designs were not adopted, perhaps in the sequel, we will also see Penny Parker and SP//DR dressed differently. After all, in Gwen's new Spider-Man team, in addition to Penny Parker and SP//DR, there are characters like Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Ham, and it seems that they will all have more important characters.
Spider-Man: Across the Universe will explore more of the different Spider-Man concepts of Peter Parker, and maybe we'll see different versions of Petunia Parker or other characters.
