In the community of Longjinyuan District 2, Longzeyuan Street, there is a volunteer team composed of 20 female community residents, with an average age of more than 65, who provide voluntary garbage delivery publicity and guidance services, and are affectionately called "barrel keepers" by community residents, contributing to the "she" strength of Longze Home.
In the early autumn of 2019, in order to strengthen the guidance of residents on garbage sorting and further improve the accuracy of delivery, the "two committees" of Longjinyuan District 2 community formed a garbage sorting volunteer service guidance team through the form of a consultative meeting.
Since November of the same year, every morning from 7 to 9 o'clock, regardless of wind, frost, rain or snow, volunteers will be on time at the community garbage sorting drop-off point, guiding residents to correctly put their garbage in hand.
Food waste sorting is the biggest difficulty in implementing waste classification. In order to strictly classify food waste, volunteers picked up homemade small iron hooks and small blades to sort the kitchen waste put in by residents.
Every morning at 6 o'clock, Wang Xiaoqin, who is in her seventies, will appear next to the community's kitchen waste can, bring her own tools, bend down and hold her breath, and pick out the mixed contents in the kitchen waste can one by one. In addition to common large mixtures such as plastic bags, there are often small mixtures such as cans pull rings, sticker labels on the surface of fruits, paper ropes for binding vegetables, and leather bands, which Wang Xiaoqin carefully sorts.
After the beginning of spring in 2023, the weather in Beijing is getting hotter and the temperature is rising sharply, and the smell of kitchen waste cans often makes residents walk by quickly, but this does not make the garbage sorting volunteer service guidance team retreat.
The power of role models is infinite and noble, and many volunteers like Wang Xiaoqin have emerged one after another, who are willing to dedicate and do not count gains and losses. Mu Rongli, Liang Jianzhen, Liu Chunli, Zhao Shuqin, Jing Laiying, Zeng Fanping, Li Jingping and others, who have been leading demonstrations all year round, actively participate in garbage sorting volunteer services, they brave the scorching sun, shuttling between the bucket stations, and sorting the mixed materials in the kitchen waste bins twice a day in the morning and evening to ensure that the kitchen waste truck can smoothly transport away the food waste generated by the entire community in the early morning of the next day.
Party building leads and takes the lead in demonstration. The community party branch of Longjinyuan District 2 set up a "Party Member Volunteer Service Pioneer Post", and party branch members and community veteran party members took the lead in publicizing and supervising garbage classification, they uniformly wore party emblems, wore uniformly marked clothing, timely persuaded to stop garbage indiscriminate investment, constantly publicized garbage classification, and were ready to fill the volunteer service guidance team to participate in inspections and sorting.
The volunteer service guidance team not only does it themselves, but also integrates the knowledge of garbage classification into their daily lives, so that residents can cultivate a new style of civilization. In WeChat groups such as community volunteer groups and community owner groups, they actively guide residents to correctly carry out garbage sorting in daily life. For example, around the Dragon Boat Festival, volunteers will tell residents in a WeChat group in time: rice dumpling leaves, corn leaves and other fibers are not easy to grind, and it is easy to entangle bearing parts on garbage disposal equipment, so they are not suitable for food waste input, and should be put into the bucket of "other garbage".
At first, many residents did not understand the garbage sorting, and still threw it into the trash can at will, feeling that the volunteers were annoying. But the volunteers never flinched, but patiently persuaded, explained, demonstrated, and even took the initiative to take residents' garbage bags and sort and put them in regardless of the bad smell and flowing dirty water. The continuous publicity and guidance caused widespread repercussions among the community residents, and this team of elderly people gradually influenced more residents in the community with the power of "her".
Residents began to take the initiative to sort garbage, many teenagers actively joined the team of "barrel keepers", and enthusiastic residents shared their experience in garbage sorting in the community WeChat group... In the community of Longjinyuan District 2, a "new fashion" has gradually formed that all residents actively participate in, and the daily output of kitchen waste in the community ranks among the best in Longzeyuan Street.
Not only in the community of Longjinyuan District 2, but also in the jurisdiction of Longzeyuan Street, a good atmosphere has now been formed in which everyone pays attention to garbage classification and everyone discusses garbage classification. Garbage sorting is the "key little thing" of people's livelihood, but also the "top priority" of the street community, let us start from the source, jointly develop good sorting habits, and build a beautiful Longze home.
