"Palm coffee" for visually impaired girls

On July 5, at the palm coffee shop in Baiyun District, Guangzhou, visually impaired barista Chen Liuxiao was making hand-brewed coffee.

Chen Liuxiao, a post-95 visually impaired girl in Guangzhou, was diagnosed with macular degeneration at the age of 6, and her vision continued to decline until she was 18 years old. Now with only weak vision, although she has no big problem walking, her life is inconvenient.

By chance, Chen Liuxiao participated in a public welfare training program and became acquainted with coffee. When learning to make coffee, she and other visually impaired students filled the hand brewing pot with cool water and drew circles in the palm of the hand to feel the impact of the water flow, so as to grasp the angle of brewing, which is the origin of the name "palm coffee". In 2018, 5 visually impaired companions, including Chen Liuxiao, obtained the barista qualification certification and officially became baristas.

Chen Liuxiao now works at the Hand Palm Coffee Shop in Baiyun District, Guangzhou, and there are three visually impaired baristas, including her. In addition to making coffee, Chen Liuxiao also began to participate more in in-store management and training activities, hoping to further realize her self-worth.
