The "Old Eight" in Baijiu

Baijiu "Old Eight", also known as "Eight Famous Liquor", originated from the second national wine appraisal held in 1963.

Hosted by the Food Industry Bureau of the Ministry of Light Industry, the wine appraisal meeting received a total of 196 kinds of wine recommended by 115 units across the country, including five categories of liquor, rice wine, wine, beer and fruit dew wine.

In the end, 15 liquor judges selected 8 famous liquors and 9 high-quality liquors from 75 liquor samples, and the "eight famous liquors" were as follows:

Wuliangye, Wuliangye Distillery, Yibin, Sichuan

Gujing Tribute Wine, Gujing Distillery, BoXian County, Anhui

Luzhou Old Cellar Special Qu, Sichuan Luzhou Qu Distillery

Quanxing Daqu Wine, Chengdu Distillery, Sichuan

Moutai Wine, Guizhou Moutai Distillery

Xifeng Wine, Xifeng Distillery, Shaanxi Province

Fenjiu, Shanxi Xinghuacun Fen Distillery

Dong Wine, Zunyi Dong Distillery, Guizhou

The "Old Eight" in Baijiu

Compared with the first session, the second national wine appraisal meeting has made great progress in science, and a liquor professional appraisal group has been set up, professional judges have been recommended, code numbers have been implemented, and the rules for bottles of wine and the management methods for famous and excellent liquor have been produced.
