You may not know it???

And these "advertising-grabbing" sites are likely to be unregulated.

For example, on a job site identified as AI-generated information, ChatGPT-style language appeared in the title of an article:

Sorry, as an AI language model, I can't access external links or websites myself.

That is to say, these AI websites not only create useless spam on the Internet, but also pry away the advertising fees of ordinary websites, and even the gold lord fathers who put them are kept in the dark ...

What the hell is going on?

Google is still an "accomplice"

NewsGuard, which reports above, has been tracking Unreliable Artificial Intelligence-Generated News websites (UAIN) for some time.

Over the past month, the number of such sites they observed has increased from 49 to 217.

Many of them use AI to publish a large number of articles, even more than 1200 a day. But there are almost no humans in charge of editing and overseeing.

For example, some articles are AI rewritten from some media messages, the same pictures and phrasing will appear, and the article may also be mixed with AI characteristic language: "As an artificial intelligence language model, I can't provide information about XXX"...

△ ChatGPT's sorry body

The purpose of this is actually to create advertising space for yourself.

But the question is, why can such an obvious spam website still receive advertising?

This starts with Google's advertising mechanism.

NewsGuard found that of the 393 ads placed on AI sites, 356 were distributed by Google ads.

This delivery is algorithmically based on determining the website, audience, etc. Under normal circumstances, some spam websites can be blocked when launching, but from the current situation, it is likely that AI websites are growing too fast, and Google has not had time to ban them.

This already violates Google Ads' own rules: ads cannot be placed on auto-generated spam pages.

NewsGuard sent four emails to Google about the situation, asking Google to comment on the issue of AI websites being made from advertising. Google gave an initial response and asked for more details, but there was no updated response as of June 25.

AI is killing the traditional internet

But that's just a little bit of how AI is disrupting the internet...

In fact, many large websites, including many large websites, have been affected by AI to varying degrees in the past few months.

For example, Reddit, Wikipedia, Stack Overflow and other websites have begun to change under the influence of AI.

Previously, Reddit's need to increase the cost of accessing APIs caused heated discussions, and the company believed that high-quality data on the platform should not be prostituted by AI companies. As a result, this was met with dissatisfaction on the part of users, and hundreds of communities boycotted it.

Wikipedia may already be numb to this "white" ... Now they want to talk more about how to use AI to enrich their own content. After all, AI has a great advantage in terms of the scope of knowledge covered and the speed of generation; However, the authenticity and quality of the content are difficult to guarantee, and humans are still required to verify and verify.

Stack Overflow was the first website to issue a temporary ban on ChatGPT.

The reason is that there is too much spam information generated by AI at this stage, and humans do not have a good way to control it for the time being.

But the Internet revolution is already quietly happening.

Senior author of The Verge said:

The impact of AI at this stage is just a process in the long-term development of the Internet. Essentially, it's a war about information — who makes it, how it gets it, and who gets paid.

Now a new Internet is being born, and the choices we make now will determine how it develops.
