The Maracanã Stadium, built for the 1950 World Cup, has hosted 104 matches for Brazil, 106 of which were played by the Brazilian Olympic team at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Brazil have won 75 games, 24 draws and seven defeats, scoring 256 goals and conceding 73 goals. Let's review the 10 most classic games.

1950 FIFA World Cup: Brazil lost 2-1 to Uruguay

Before Brazil lost 1–7 to Germany at the 2014 World Cup, the biggest tragedy in Brazilian football history was Brazil's match against Uruguay at the 1950 World Cup. The World Cup at the time was a round-robin format, with Brazil winning the tournament in the final round as long as they drew with Uruguay, but with a one-goal lead, Brazil was reversed 2-1 by Uruguay. When Uruguay's Gigia scored the winning goal, the 200,000 spectators fell silent, followed by crying.

Brazil's most scoring match at the Maracanã Stadium came at the 1959 O'Higgins Cup. The tournament is a tournament between Brazil and Chile and has been held five times, four of which were won by Brazil. In the second O'Higgins Cup in 1959, the "king of the ball" Pele staged a "hat-trick".

1968, friendlies: Brazil drew 2–2 with Germany

While it was just a friendly and a draw, the match had a duel between Pele and Beckenbauer and had a classic goal. In the second half, Pele attacked from the right, shaking Germany's Schultz to the ground, and then dribbled the ball through the legs of the opposing No. 4 player, who was the famous "football emperor" Beckenbauer. However, Pele's shot was deflected out of the way and did not make Beckenbauer too humiliated.

1976 Atlantic Cup: Brazil beat Uruguay 2-1

In the 1976 Atlantic Cup match between Brazil and Uruguay, brazil's Zico dribbled through several people, Uruguay's Ramirez tripped Zico in front of the penalty area, so Brazilian player Livino punched Ramirez in the face to help Zico "avenge". Although they were then persuaded to leave and the game continued, as soon as the final whistle sounded, Ramirez chased Livino wildly. Copa America, 1989: Brazil beat Argentina 2-0

Great games require great opponents, great goalscorers and, of course, great commentary. There was such a combination in the 1989 Copa America match between Brazil and Argentina, when it was Maradona who led the Argentine team. Shortly after the start of the second half, Bebeto's kung fu-like shot stunned the audience. Bueno, the commentator at the time, is still one of brazil's most famous commentators.

1989 Copa America: Brazil beat Uruguay 1-0

Having previously lost to Uruguay here, Brazilians' nerves are tight. The winning goal was a header from Romario, who was only 1.67 meters tall. The goal allowed the Brazilian to win his first official major title in Maracana.

It was another Romario show. He had not played in the previous seven qualifiers, a match that would have failed to qualify for the U.S. World Cup if Brazil had lost, and under public pressure, the manager had to use Romario and Bebeto to partner the front. In the end, Romario scored two goals in a row, and Brazil won the World Cup qualification and eventually won the 1994 World Cup.

2016 Olympic Games: Brazil beat Germany 5-4 on penalties

This time, the Maracanã Stadium welcomed the Brazilian Olympic team, against Germany. Due to the 2014 World Cup Brazil's fiasco to Germany, the national Olympic team also has a revenge mentality to a certain extent. The two teams played a 1-1 draw to enter the penalty shootout, and Brazil won the Olympic men's football championship.
