author:Junzhi YOUKNOW

The history of the Roan Empire has always been a fascinating story, perhaps this is why there are so many Reasons why Jingluo is so numerous, if it comes to the expansion and rise of Rome, so that the territory of the Roman Empire expanded to the extreme, then the first of the Five Wise Emperors - Trajan.

Unlike the traditional Roman emperors who were born in the Apennine Peninsula, Trajan was a down-to-earth outsider. In 53 AD, Trajan was born into a family of military exploitants in Italica, Betica, Spain. Growing up with his father in the army, Trajan naturally heard about commanding battles and laid the groundwork for him to become a great commander in the future. As a person who could later become a Roman emperor, Trajan's family background was naturally not ordinary. Trajan's father was a Roman expeditionary force, his mother was Spanish, wealthy and well-known in the region, and Trajan's father even served as governor of Spain and Syria.

In 1989, Trajan became a legion commander with his father's connections and his own efforts, and he was only 36 years old at this time, and he naturally refused to be satisfied. Soon, with his outstanding abilities, Trajan became consul two years later. Later, because of his meritorious service against the Germans, he was awarded the title of "Germanicus" by the Senate.

In 96 AD, the political situation in Rome changed. It is clear that our poor Roman Emperor Domitian did not learn caesar's lesson and was stabbed to death for his long feud with the Senate. Nevar was elected Emperor of Rome by the Senate, but suffered from the lack of support from the army, so in the following year he wisely adopted Trajan, who was respected in the army at that time, as his adopted son and successor, quelling the dissatisfaction of the army. A move enabled Rome to finally get a period of peace and prosperity, which also became the starting point of Rome's prosperity.

In 98 AD, Nerva died, and Trajan was ordered to return to Rome to succeed to the throne. However, Trajan showed great restraint in the face of absolute power, and he chose to spend a year patrolling and consolidating the border defenses of the Rhine and Danube regions. When the belated Roman emperor returned to Rome, it was already 99 AD.

With the experience of Domitian, Trajan returned to Rome and was quite friendly and respectful to the Senate, gained the favor of the Senate, and received its support, and established himself on his feet. Trajan then embarked on local reforms, appointing central cronies to serve as governors, reducing taxes, providing loans to small farmers by the government to support their livelihoods, and continuing Nevar's tax philanthropic approach to orphans. In addition, Trajan also began to expand the public works within the empire, and many of the ancient Roman buildings we see today were built during the Trajan period. Trajan's series of actions enabled Trajan to receive strong support from the Senate to the people and the army, and even the Senate awarded him the title of "Best Head".

At this time, the Roman Empire had experienced many generations of emperors doing nothing to the outside world, and Trajan was determined to change all this, he increased the number of legions to 30, and expanded the number of each legion, the huge Roman Empire army was about to go out again, sweeping the enemy army, and the Roman Empire was about to usher in his largest expansion since the time of Caesar.

Emperor of the Ages: Trajan

In 101 AD, after a long period of preparation, Trajan officially began a war of conquest of the Dacian kingdom, directly approaching the capital of the Dacian kingdom, Salmizejtusa, forcing the Dacian king to accept the alliance under the city, accept the treaty and agree to share the enemy and friend with Rome. However, the Dacians could not accept the fact of submission to Rome, and in 105 AD, the Dacians revolted against the Romans, and Trajan mobilized 12 legions to crush the Dacians in one fell swoop, razing their capital, plundering a large amount of treasure, and selling the local population as slaves, so that Daccia became the new province of Rome. In the same year, Trajan defeated the nabat a kingdom in northern Arabia and established the Arab provinces.

In 110 AD, the Parthians invaded Armenia and deposed the pro-Roman kings, giving Trajan, who had been preparing for a long time, an excuse to declare war. In 114 AD, the Roman legions occupied Armenia and made it a new province, but this was not over, and the easy victory stimulated Trajan's desire to conquer, the Roman legions divided into two routes and took the mesopotamian plain, and in 116 AD, the Roman legions divided into two roads and arrived in the Persian Gulf. Looking at the vast sea, Trajan was full of tears, and he was now old enough not to go on an expedition to India and reach the end of the world like Alexander the Great. Eventually, after Trajan established the provinces of Assyria and Mesopotamia, he chose to abandon further conquests.

Due to years of conquest, Trajan's health deteriorated, and the 116-year expedition caused Trajan's condition to worsen and eventually fell ill. In 117, Trajan died of illness in the city of Selinus in Asia Minor, unable to return to Rome.

Trajan left no heirs or heirs, so in 117 the Eastern Legion declared allegiance to Trajan's nephew and adopted son Hadrian. Hadrian lived up to expectations and ushered in another glorious era in Rome.

As a Roman Emperor, Trajan was politically and militarily accomplished, and under his leadership, the Roman Empire expanded unprecedentedly, with great national strength and economic prosperity. Trajan, along with Nerva, Hadrian, Antoni Pius, and Marco Aurelius, was later known as the Five Wise Men, and the historian Edward even called the reign of the Five Wise Men "the happiest age for mankind." However, even the greatest empire will eventually decline, and three hundred and fifty-nine years after Trajan's death, the last emperor of the Western Roman Empire, Romulus Augustus, will be deposed and the Western Roman Empire will be destroyed.
