Dell's new XPS 15 OLED is very similar to the old model, which is also almost identical to the previous model. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Because the new XPS 15 OLED is still one of the best Windows laptops.
The biggest change is that the XPS 15 OLED for 2023 includes the latest 13th-generation Intel Core CPUs and Nvidia GeForce RTX 40-series laptop GPUs. You can also choose to configure Intel Arc Graphics as a graphics option. In addition to that, you get the same bells and whistles as before, including a gorgeous 3.5K OLED display, a decent number of ports, and plenty of features for everyday computing and gaming. While the new Dell XPS 15 OLED is an update in name only, it's still a rock-solid, flawless, and one of the best Windows laptops. Here's what I came to after reviewing this laptop.
In terms of design, the new Dell XPS 15 retains the same design as its predecessor. With a sleek, machined aluminum chassis and overall slim profile, it's so sleek and elegant that it won't look out of place in the office, at home or in a coffee shop. As much as I appreciate the XPS 15's exterior design, it's a bit inconvenient to actually use because it doesn't have a protruding lip design, which has always been one of my main complaints about the XPS lineup. However, the lid itself is hard and easy to move when opened, without shaking or creaking when pushing the laptop.
In terms of color reproduction and accuracy, the XPS 15 achieves a 194.7% sRGB color gamut and 137.9% DCI-P3 color space with a display (close to 100 is the best choice of both). While the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra (121.6%/86.2%) and MacBook Pro 16-inch (118.2%/83.7%) scored lower in their tests, they were higher in terms of color accuracy. In the Delta-E color accuracy test (0 being best), the XPS 15 OLED scored 0.24. While this score is close to the MacBook Pro (0.21), it's not as accurate as the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra (0.15). Still, some people may like the oversaturated color effect.
It comes with three USB-C ports, a full-size SD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a Kensington lock, in addition to USB-A and Ethernet adapters. For sound performance, the XPS 15 features two 2.5-watt woofers and two 1.5-watt tweeters that remain clear even at high volumes, with a high separation between bass, midrange and treble.
Powered by a 13th-generation Intel Core i7-13700H CPU, Nvidia RTX 4070 laptop GPU, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB SSD storage, this laptop is powerful enough to handle heavy workloads.
The XPS 15 also has a comfortable keyboard and a sleek trackpad that is spacious and responsive with keys, and it feels great to type on the soft textured carbon fiber that covers the palm rest. The trackpad records all gestures and tracks the cursor position accurately, giving the user a very smooth experience. The laptop comes with a 720p camera, which isn't the best option.
Overall, the Dell XPS 15 OLED (2023) is an extraordinary Windows laptop that excels in OLED display, keyboard, and work and play performance. Of course, if you prefer Apple laptops, you can consider buying a MacBook Pro 16-inch or MacBook Pro 14-inch, and if you're looking for a Windows laptop with comparable performance but much lighter, then the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra is definitely an option worth considering. Its lightweight design and powerful performance combine to meet your needs, whether it's for work or play.
